I've seen a bunch of him in PWG and a few matches in GCW.  Nobody's reigned it in so far.  He's a really solid worker, but it's all "hand in fist and bow" poses before every single signature move, and really convoluted shit like his goofy-ass jumping kick combo.  He has 5 - 10 signature spots that he hits in every single match and it really stands out because everything he does is so unique to him, so every match ends up feeling the same.  He won PWG BOLA 2023, which was torture because I had to watch him wrestle similar matches FOUR TIMES on one night (he missed night one so he worked his qualifier on night two).

If anyone could make him cut his signature bullshit by 50 - 75% and teach him to do some different stuff, it would be Danielson.

I’ve seen a few of his matches and this pretty much sums up why I can’t get into him.

TK clearly reads this board, a Danielson dream match was announced for Dynamite next week at tonight’s Collision/Rampage/ROH tapings.

I haven't set foot in Houston since 2010 and haven't lived there since 08; what would be the best AEW-sized venue there now? I haven't gotten to go to any of the Austin-area shows because I live on the south side and can't drive, and none of my frienda can commit to take me to the northern suburbs for a show that will end after bus service (from Cedar Park to my area) does, but I suddenly realize that I legit have no idea what the right venue there would be.

WWE has the Toyota Center wrapped up. The only time AEW has come they went to the Fertitta Center, which was totally acceptable. They've had shows in the "Houston area" but they've all been like three hours away. It's completely disingenuous to call Rosenberg the "Houston area".

It kind of seems like AEW is getting paid for this. Or Arlington is giving them a great deal on renting the building for 5 weeks in a row.

AEW is failing so bad that they have to have a municipality pay them to run shows, because they cannot sell tickets.

Its certainly an interesting experiment; framing it in this sort of tourist-y, residence-type way feels a lot more like a tiny-Mania-week vibe than a "Fuck it, Cedar Park again!" kill-the-town vibe.

Should this be successful, it's going to be really interesting to see if they can replicate elsewhere moving forward.

In fact, if this works, Id probably make that a large part of my pitch to other cities: we made $X for the local economy, we had X people in the building over X nights, we had folks traveling in from X Y and Z, they bought $X in merch and $X in refreshments, etc.

We were talking AEW drawing woes here some months back, and two of the ideas I had were to try running more sold shows at casinos and places like that, or to try making TV more of a "summer party" atmosphere by touring amphitheaters using the Daily's setup - not sure how this thing is gonna pan out, but on paper, this might be the best of both.

Zakk, mentioning Mania week makes me think it would be fantastic if they had a few good guest wrestlers come in for some wacky matches we wouldn't otherwise get on regular TV. Keep the local crowd interested by having most of the roster appear on separate shows, toss in some ROH matches to promote their big event, etc. Keep us, but especially the locals, excited.

Great call. I thought it was hella smart what they did on one of the last loops through Texas where they made sure to book their locals like Bryan Keith, Lance Archer etc. and tons of lucha dudes, too. The idea to keep each show with a rotation of different people (other than maybe a handful of top stars) is a good one too.

Sorta off topic, and a bit of a harsh (but very real) criticism: they'll often book guys in hometown matches like that - the above TX stuff, Hager in Oklahoma, AR Fox and Mercedes Martinez every time I go up to Connecticut, Kingston in NYC, etc. - how about advertising some of this shit??

The hope would be that they are working toward a short extension, or a new deal with limited dates or something - maybe even something more formal as it relates to working on the office side; the reality is that Mox was working without a contract as World Champion.

Totally baseless speculation, but I could also imagine a situation where after pretty recently opening the purse strings for Okada, Mone, Ospreay and others, they might wanna get TV squared away first.

Short extension/handshake contract, you have my word. Read Bryan Danielson wanted to go out at AEW WrestleDream 2024 which is in Tacoma, Washington.

I do agree with your post from the other day saying that the constant mention of this being the last year, and the recent Claudio stuff is building to something/possibly a Nigel match, so fully with you in that sense - but with regard to the off screen contract stuff, I'll just say this: word for word, your post was my post when we all found out Cody hadn't signed a new deal yet so... while I have no real counter-argument or evidence to the contrary, I'm just a bit gunshy to declare it fully a work yet for that reason.

According to Danielson, he asked for two things before leaving WWE: getting to wrestle in New Japan and getting to bleed. Hunter said no to the latter, while TK has given him both PLUS he's gotten to wrestle Blue Panther. I would sincerely hope that while he may eventually go back to the 'E, hopefully he feels like there's still lots of unfinished business outside of that company.

@Zakk_Sabbath Danielson made his AEW debut in September 2021, so if he was on a three-year deal, maybe it does legitimately end in August 2024.

But, out of habit, I assume anything being said on TV or in interviews is folks working. If no one had said anything at all about this and Meltzer or someone reported his contract was ending before All In & Out, then maybe so.  I'm just not seeing a huge difference between the MJF & Danielson "contract situations" as far as how they are being presented in AEW canon.

Oh yeah dude, no argument from me at all, and I would defer to you on that for obvious reasons even if I disagreed; I just found the similarity to my Cody post so striking, I would be remiss not to explain my position a little bit (though I gotta respect both you and @TheVileOnefor the brevity lol)

They ran the Moody Center once before moving back out to Cedar Park. Still not super convenient for bus service after hours but a cheaper ride share.
