The Wall Street Journal Vince McMahon Thread.

Message added by jaedmc,

It's a gross story, don't stare too deeply into the abyss or it will stare back.

Also be adults and don't make us ban you.

And what I had heard/read in the past was that their "adventures" included members of the OVW roster, which is why I mentioned this because of the power dynamics involved.

But then again, I wasn't there lol

I recall the Cornette story fading quick during that week. Maybe we're just not willing to consider visualizing the story and we decided to move on quickly.

Also, Cornette hasn't actually held a regular job in a wrestling promotion since 2019 and he's essentially self-employed. So it's different from active wrestlers who were getting regular indy work while doing what they were accused of.

I swear anytime anyone says something about WWE's sponsors the first one I think of is....

STACKER 2.

That was a billion years ago now. But it's all I remember.

I mean, isn't that how we feel about Slim Jim? The entire cultural cachet of WWE's sponsorships are legalized trucker speed, faux meat sticks, and acne products. And I guess Mountain Dew.

Wonder how many issues Hustler and Penthouse put out per year now. Likely it's quarterly.

Most people are not wrestling fans so for the vast majority of people out there this will just lead to them muttering "Fuck those sick freaks. I hope they hang him and shut the whole company down."

We here are discussing this in depth because we are the few who have invested some portion of our lives, our joy, our writing, our thinking, our childhood, our adulthood (such as it is) about this business as an art or at least a great skill set.

But we all know and have known deep down that it is not a savory business. It's maybe the least savory that doesn't involve human trafi....ooops.

We have to admit that while there are some very nice people who have been in wrestling and really great people who have liked it or loved it and made it part of their lives, it is also likely the when you look at the people who "thrived' in the industry., Got to the top. the precentage of psychopaths to humans gets...less good.

we all know that. And we all have accepted it. Over and over becausd we didn't hit the line or at least it didn't hit us this hard. Someone mentioned Moolah early int he thread. i've known about that scum sucking piig for decades. But I or we never hit this line.

Well we hit it now. It seems really clear that we hit it. So now we don't have a choice but to make a choice. It's not my fault. It's not yours. But that doesn't mean the line isn't there. If we didn't hit it before (well I do feel bad personally about not hitting it before) but we're only human.

But No contract language, no fiduciary responsiblit, no speech about "how things actually are" no Wolf of Wall street "someone's gonna do it" affects that line. It is immutable and unforgiving. And we're there now. We can't not make a choice. The line doesn't disappear because a lawyer or contract law CONSUTLTANT says to ignore it. We can pretend we don't have a choice because "that's ho things actually are." but that is also making the choice.

There is no way to go past today and not have made the choice. Not your fault. Not my fault. But the line doesn't care whose fault it is. It just is and what's on the other side is all of us admitting out loud "Yes, the richest psychopaths can and will do anything they want to any of us whenever they want and we accept that because they tell us that's the way things actually are."

Or we can fucking destroy a few little companies and a few little billionaries and maybe...just maybe the line will start to show up for them too.

For what it's worth, Wikipedia says Penthouse is bimonthly but it also lists Larry Flynt as the editor/publisher of Hustler despite Larry dying 3 years ago. So that might be a Kim Il-Sung sort of thing.

When someone first brought up Slim Jim here, I thought they were asking historically why Slim Jim left back in the 90's. So I'm clearly out of the loop as to what commercials even play today. Is Miss Cleo still around?

Reminds me of stories like Weinstein and Grizzly Smith types being known creeps that were at least whispered about for some time fairly openly. Who all actively participated? Who all knew? Who all basically knew but allowed chosen indifference/ ignorance? Who was in the dark but heard rumors? Etc.

And much like Weinstein (and R Kelly) a number of people had to be involved in the pay offs ect

Those people might be the pornography equivalents of people who were still getting print copies of the Observer in 2023.

Hey they’re just doing their part to keep print media alive. (But yeah it’s weird)

Apparently she died a few years ago, but there's an HBO Max documentary about her that I'll be adding to my watchlist. So thanks for that.

"How things actually work?"   Dude that is the wrong fucking thing to say right now. How things actually work is that rich old men can rape anyone's daughter whenever they want and very rarely does anyone even mention it. That's "How things work." Enjoy that, man. Cause you win. You're right. that's how things work.

It's never wrong to tell the fucking truth. I'm genuinely sorry you prefer to live in a fantasy world, instead trying to make this one better.

Also, how about you just stop at "anyone"? A woman is a person deserving of respect, whatever her relation to a particular man might be.

Is that going to happen? Of course not. Because that's not how things work* (*Machine part # 56784839)

It's not going to happen because we live in a country governed by FUCKING LAWS. Do you want to live in anarchy, where anyone can do anything they want, to anyone, at any time? Because in a world like, there are A LOT more Vince McMahons, with a LOT more power than they already have.

How soon we forget Karate Fighters.

In seriousness, at one point, they were getting Skittles and Burger King advertising accounts. I don't know what advertising looks like now for the company, though. A quikc Google has a bunch of lists, so it's hard to tell what's accurate and up to date, but I saw DraftKings and thought that DraftKings will probably advertise on public access television, so I doubt they'll be moved by any of this.

I didn't want to get involved in the discussion in the Sports forum, but that's why it's hilarious that a certain segment is celebrating the death of Sports Illustrated. You're not exactly taking down a titan in its prime.

Some airport news stands still carry Penthouse, did a double take last year when I saw one on the shelf.

People quitting their job when their boss is revealed to be torturing and pimping girls out is not exactly anarchy.

But whatever gets you over the line comfortably, pal. Say high to the bosses for me when you get that big law promotion.

Ladies and Gentlemen, there is no need to worry. The very rational and infallible system is in good hands and will continue without but a ripple. Professor Dog is on the case! You will be tested on this later!

Okay here's the deal.

This is an upsetting story. People are upset. If it upsets you that people get upset, don't be shitty at them because they're upset.

AND

If you're upset, don't lash out at everyone because your upset. It's unhealthy and honestly unhelpful.

We're all trying to sort out how we feel, and up until now we were doing it pretty well. We had disagreements, and most of us tried to listen and be respectful. There are no winners in this story.

If you can't handle talking to each other like human beings over this inhumane shit, I start giving a week off to anyone involved in the conflict. Both sides. Doesn't matter if we're personally cool or not. Walk away from your keyboard. Mute the person that's bothering you. It's best for everyone else who've come here to connect to other fans and find some shelter from the storm.

I'm going to go have a date night with my wife and celebrate my sister giving birth to a baby girl.

When I come back, y'all better be cool to each other.

Slim Jim just put a pause on their relationship with WWE.

SRS is also reporting that another major sponsor that was considering getting in business with WWE is no longer interested.

If that is indeed the case, I imagine today in Stamford had to be one of the busiest Fridays since 1991-1994. Now you're in dead serious territory.

The film festival I run, Octopus Marquee Independent Film Festival, has decided to not consider doing business sponsoring the Royal Rumble. We will not see any adds for Octopus Marquee Independent Film Festival during the show. Octopus Marquee Independent Film Festival does not condone Vince being a dumb fuck trash monster.

Thank you for reading.

SLim Jim will lead the way. Even if it's just a business decision. Sometimes something is so big that "good for business" and "good" actually overlap a little.

"Slim Jim: Made by humans...Made for humans...made near humans...but never ever ever made of humans."
