Bustronaut
Best of luck to you and your wife, Drew. Also, continued well wishes to Tabe & Tabette. Fuck you to aging. My mom fell and broke her wrist around this time last year, and has been having some short term memory loss since. She went for her annual check up last Tuesday, they ran a CT scan, and discovered that the fall had either been caused by or caused a mini stroke, which affected her memory. Then she tells us that she'd been falling regularly while she was at her part-time job. Then Wednesday, my wife was trying to coordinate travel to her nephew's upcoming wedding with HER mom, who up and said that she wasn't going because she didn't feel she could make the three hour drive with her various aches and pains, then casually dropped the bomb that she'd just covertly been to the hospital because she was peeing what appeared to be undiluted blood, but to not tell the nephew's mom, because she didn't want her to worry before the wedding. Never have a mom

Just Dave
Thanks for the good thoughts, folks. Will keep y'all updated. Also, a much less consequential "fuck you" to myself for not going to the dentist for ten years. I gotta have a root canal...
OSJ
Just my opinion, but you might be better off just having the tooth yanked (depending on your insurance). I took excellent care of my teeth my entire life and still started getting deep cavities that required root canals in my thirties. Had eleven of the things. My insurance covered about 60%, but all told I spent around $20K out of pocket on crowns, bridges and what not. Guess what, that shit has a life expectancy of 15-20 years, so during the three years that I had no insurance, all of the work started falling apart with the end result being that I'm missing most of my teeth. Unfortunately, Medicare considers all dental work "cosmetic" and won't pay for anything. To pull and replace everything with good dentures (the kind that are bolted to the jawbone), runs about $6K unless I go to Mexico, in which case I can get it done for about $2K while risking being shot. Jingus
I'm in a similar spot with my teeth. They're a hundred kinds of fucked up, and I'm incredibly insecure about them. And I have zero insurance and no money and none likely to be coming in soon.
Just Dave
My wife has FANTASTIC dental coverage. Gonna be about $600 bucks out of pocket. Otherwise I might be going the "new tooth" route.
Burgundy LaRue
You can have dentures bolted in? I need to look into that. My teeth are chipping at an alarming rate. I have a few veneers, but this chip/put off visit/finally go to the dentist thing will get old soon.
OSJ
Burgundy: Keep in mind I don't have them yet, so this is just me parroting a couple of websites and dentists. (When I do go that route it will either be in Mexico or Albuquerque since the dentist doesn't use nitrous, and if I'm going to endure pain, at least I intend to have a good time while doing so.) ;-) The lower denture is the one that most people have problems with shifting around and what not. So what they do is bolt the thing with four titanium screws to the jawbone. That's about as close to feeling like your real teeth as dentures are going to get. Apparently, you can remove them for cleaning and they just snap back in. Pulling teeth runs about $200 per. Unfortunately, mine didn't fall out, they broke off so no discounts there. The bolted in dentures run about $2000 more than the regular kind. I'm actually thinking that if you got the teeth pulled and THEN went to a denturist, you might save a ton of money, but I don't know if a denturist is legally able to install this type, since that might be considered a "surgical procedure". Good luck!

Craig H
Fair bit of warning about the lower dentures. My mom has been going through quite the nearly 2 year long saga with her lower dentures. She wound up going the bolt/snap on route. So one of the implants wasn't put in straight, which caused the o-ring in the denture to break, so the denture was loose. They've tried repeatedly to fix that one issue and the o-ring would either break or the denture itself would break. My mom even had the implant re-seated. Now they want my mom to get two additional posts, which is ridiculous. Or they're saying that the uppers are too big and need to be filed down. Stop grovelling and fuck the fuck off... Ha, I had the same deal with Direct TV this week. We decided to get rid of our bundle with Direct TV and CenturyLink with their amazing 1mps Internet speeds and just get Xfinity Internet with 50mps and go full streaming in our household. CenturyLink were surprisingly very easy and cool to deal with about it but the Direct TV guy kept trying to offer me this discount or this deal, begging and stalling, and kept me on the phone forever trying to get me to change my mind. And then when it was clear I wasn't going to, his attitude changed to a menacing "You have this long to pay your final bill or we reserve the right to access the debit card you used when you first subscribed to take what you owe us." I had planned to pay it off in a week but now I wanna see them try as that debit card is null and void cause it had been lost. Then, I get a call a day later in the middle of my work day from them begging me to take them back. I tell this lady this story. "I'm sorry, it has nothing to do with you or your company. But we as a family have decided to get rid of TV in our home for the sake of the children." I guess this lady may work for them but has a similar view as she said "Oh well, I completely understand that, sir. Have a nice day."
Patrick B.
Need a ton of dental work that will be really expensive even with insurance. Have been told I need a root canal and crown on one side. Have also got a messed-up wisdom tooth that should be pulled, but it's almost completely broken off and will be complicated to extract. Been putting this stuff off for as long as possible since these issues aren't actively bugging me on a regular basis, plus(mostly) because I simply can't afford them right now. JustJay
I need to say a big FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU to my rheumatoid arthritis. It has been acting up the last week and I've been barely able to do much of anything with my daughters and have been a miserable wreck. At least we made a day yesterday for my oldest birthday and spent the day at build-a-bear and chuck-e-cheese. Though I am paying for it today and with it being rainy for the next 4-5 days it looks like my pain will be through the roof. At least my family especially my wife bares with me when I am grumpy from the pain and I usually hole up in the bed room with WWE network and my ps3, trying to take my mind away from the wretched disease. Cliff Hanger
Fuck you to proponents of "people-first terminology." I am not a "person living with partial blindness", I am a blind man. (I used to say 'legally blind', but the explanation given me by instructors and people who've been around the block more than me, as to why the 'legally' qualifier does more harm than good makes a shit ton more sense than people-first stupidity). Somehow, while I had heard the results of this ("people with disabilities" rather than "disabled people") I had no idea this was a capital-letters THING until today. Speaking as a person living with partial blindness, a person living with major depression and a person living with a certification to teach English in the state of Texas (at least til the end of May) I want to beat the people who came up with this shit with a hammer, cast them into the street and laugh at their injuries when they are hit by cars. I am not a person living with visual disabilities, I am a goddamn blind person. (insert the 'legally' if you so desire. It doesn't offend me, but it offends people I respect more than the people-first people.) I am not a person living with depression, I am not a person living with trichotllomania and I am not a person living with phenomenal irritation at the concept of having to carefully and ungrammatically structure my sentences to avoid offending the non-disabled who want to be offended on my behalf. I am a blind, depressed person whose disabilities, mental issues and other non-standard experiences make up maybe 20% of who I am. And fuck you for telling me that I'm not allowed to put that 20% first if I think it will grease the social wheels and make it easier for people to deal with me and my shit without treating me as an invalid or a crazy person who needs constant supervision. (Sorry, can you tell I learned a new phrase from conversing with someone who THINKS they have my best interests at heart but doesn't? I will freely admit to being filled with irrational rage.)
Jingus
I was thinking about trying for government disability, I've got enough problems to qualify, but then I read your post. Goddamn.
