Craig H Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Smashing Pumpkins and Weezer were probably my 1A and 1B favorite bands for a good long while from middle school through high school. NIN was probably my second/third favorite. And then a bunch of punk bands. Then in the early 2000s it was Foo Fighters and less of the first two, in 2007 on my way to WM 23 I listened to Silversun Pickups for the first time and they instantly became my all time favorite group mainly because they had a lot of that Smashing Pumpkins sound, some songs that felt like they could imprint on your DNA like Weezer songs, and lyrics like they were written by Trent. Then I went a good long while without listening to Smashing Pumpkins or Weezer because the former were a mess, Billy Corgan seemed like he was out of his mind, and Weezer had practically zero growth. At some point in the last few years I went back to listening to them both heavily again along with Pickups and I found myself liking them both way more again. Absence makes the heart grow fonder I guess. I'm able to separate Corgan's wackadoo bullshit from the music and I think Infinite Sadness is still the best Pumpkins album and listen to Zero a ton. Downward Spiral still rips really fucking hard, but The Fragile is my favorite album of NIN's, with We're in this Together Now being the one I listen to the most, more than anything off of TDS or PHM. And I rather like Weezer's seasons albums. Looking forward to seeing NIN for the first time ever this year and Silversun Pickups for the 4th time. I'm not sure I'd want to go see the Pumpkins or Weezer live again mainly because I don't know what the Pumpkins fanbase even looks like these days because it feels pretty detached from their Chicago base and I had the unfortunate luck of my only Weezer concert (I think after Make Believe was released) being one where Rivers had zero energy and they looked very disinterested. This was a very weird tangent, but I love talking about music? 2
Craig H Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Anyway, back to the matteer at hand, I rewatched that Dynamite this morning waiting for the Last Epoch update and yeah, that's definitely in the top 10 for best Dynamites ever. I really fucking stoked for Collision tonight which is probably the first time I could say that in a long time. I got pretty misty eyed seeing Hobbs and Shibata each hold AEW gold for the first time. More so for Hobbs because Shibata was at least ROH Pure Champion for a bit. Sucks for Hook and sucks even more that I'm guessing he was puking last week because he was concussed and not because he had a stomach bug. And man, that Mone vs Athena match fucking ruled. After being pretty down on the very drawn out build to WM and feeling like I had lost interest in that show, it was nice to have Dynamite pick up the pieces for me and say, hey, wrestling is pretty awesome. 2
HarryArchieGus Posted April 17 Posted April 17 50 minutes ago, Shartnado said: Sure, and it may or may not very much say that I don't really listen to NIN, in general. But I figured that pointing out that my CD library is missing practically everything that is considered their (his) essential listening would have been enough of a clue, so I wouldn't have to point that out. But since I like music, there usually is at least something from a worthwhile artist's discography in my past or present music library (excluding maybe 3 million bands, or thereabouts). Easy tiger. Sorry I didn’t catch the ‘clue’ which made the point completely invalid. It wasn’t a super serious response, but seemed worth noting. I agree that as many as 3 million bands have strong latter day output.
Technico Support Posted April 17 Posted April 17 What a fucking show! I need to rewatch Ospreay/Takeshita. I’d rather Hangman win the tournament and then the title, but Ospreay is at the same level of overness and it seems that’s where we’re going. The only bad part of the show for me was MJF/Hurt Syndicate. Their segments feel like the worst McMahon/Russo shit. “Ply the big strong black guys with women and gold” is pretty offensive. Everyone involved in this is a classless buffoon. Any word on what happened to Hook? 6

I'd rather have Hangman Adam Page win the Owen Hart Cup and beat Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship than Will Ospreay doing both. 1
Curt McGirt Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Don't forget that Bobby came up with that shitty angle for someone (Gunther?) to come up talking some racist shit to him. This all might've been his idea... because he has bad ideas. 1
RazorbladeKiss87 Posted April 17 Posted April 17 I just finished this so maybe I'm running off the high but god damn, that was a great wrestling show! Mercedes is not my favorite by a long shot and I was so into it. Pumped for them to have a rematch. I almost thought they were going for a double count out immediately which would have been interesting. The powerslam on the apron was great. Debuting someone to beat them kinda sucks but Hangman/Alexander was awesome. Loved that flying clothesline off the ramp. MJF continues to come off as an incel who loved the Attitude era. Not a fan. Ospreay and Takeshita was predictability sick. I love that The Opps are just so casual about beating people up. At one point Yuta jumps Hobbs from behind and Hobbs has this look of annoyance that had me cracking up. The main event was basically the best possible overbooked, ECW-style chaos. Loved the arena set up. The Death Riders entrance looked great. 3
For Great Justice Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Wow, what a main event. Hobbs coming into play with his own backstory with Moxley is perfect. He rounds out the Ops in the best way. Someone said it before, but Samoa Joe is the “default starting world champion in CAW mode” wrestler of this generation. Always 100% credible as a main eventer, always delivers. 3

But, it's gonna be a damned shame, when the Bucks Whom Are Young come out next week and say the man who dropped the fall wasn't one of the actual champs and thus vacates the title switch. I feel kind of dirty halfway defending Vince, but isn't that more a Dusty thing than a Vince thing? I honestly can't remember WWF/WWE ever sending the fans home thinking they'd seen a title change then invalidating that change on a later TV show. (The closest I can think of was that time the Rockers won the tag titles at a house show, then something made the promotion change their mind and they just pretended it had never happened. I don't think they announced that the decision had been reversed, they just ignored it entirely.) Also, I'm pretty sure it should be "The Bucks Who Are Young". Not "whom". 1

According to Bret Hart, the ropes broke early in a 2 out of 3 falls match and the teams struggled through it as best they could. The refs and officials didn't want to stop the show to fix the ropes. Because the change was supposed to be on SNME, the decision was made that the footage was unairable and the title change scrapped. 1

First thing I thought of was Diesel and Shawn winning the tag titles off Yoko and Owen, and then the belts getting vacated. 1 2
Infinit Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Just wanted to echo the sentiments about how incredible l thought last night show was. Tremendous in ring. Fantastic crowd. And the venue...wow. After seeing pro wrestling in virtually identical setups for years, it's so cool to see AEW presented in all these different, fresh environments. ️️️️️ 8 1
EVA Posted April 17 Posted April 17 My gut tells me there was a delayed Dusty in WWE at some point (maybe all the way back in the WWF era), but my mind can’t conjure it up.

Maybe using women as a payoff for a wrestler shouldn’t be angle fodder after Vince legit tried that IRL. Edited April 17 by Technico Support 2

Why do you want Joe to lose to Mox on PPV? I got the opposite out of that match. Mox, YUTA, Claudio & Marina versus Swerve, Joe, Shibata & Willow in Anarchy in the Arena would 1) spare us from another foregone conclusion of a title match, 2) further the tradition of AITA at Double or Nothing and 3) switch up the formula by having women involved in the match. Add Hobbs or Omega or whatever to the Swerve's Opps side, and someone else on the Death Riders side (Okada representing the Elite?) and you're back to the usual 5v5.
