hammerva Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 Very intrigued by the Julia Hart return segment. Is she going to fight the demon that killed who she was. I guess it mostly depends on the future of the House of Black itself 2
Curt McGirt Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 Well, tonight was full of completely fine and inoffensive wrestling, yet it was... frankly, boring. I guess there was some storyline advancement if you needed that. A couple thoughts anyway: - Looks like with the new gear we're gonna get an Iron Savages vs. Outrunners match at some point. Of course they had to do a 69 spot, just because it's "funny". - Then we actually got the Outrunners who are good and over still. They showed FTR watching backstage and FTR Bald looked pissed, probably he was looking at something a little too close to home for comfort. Who's gonna end up getting an Outrunners fanny pack, btw? - Did like the Roddy/Mortos match, Mortos' goofy "RAWR"-ing due to internal struggle aside. He hit an insanely fast version of the toss-up Samoan drop on Roddy, and gave Backbreaker Boy a good deal of his own medicine. The powerbomb onto his own knee, woof. Cage comes out looking like he gets saline injections into his back muscles. - Tony said "premeditated bunk" which was funny. Nigel actually didn't offend tonight and one of his bad one-liners actually hit though I can't remember it at all. - AR Fox got a photo stapled to his head, which apparently made him pass out from shock. - The main was an expectedly good six-man tag. We now know they are officially the Death Riders and have some pretty damn good music for the team as a whole. And that's about it. Pretty flat. We'll see what next week brings. 1
username Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 Mortos is one of my fave AEW guys and even I can't pretend him having to act conflicted all match wasn't awful. I get that ultimately he's a guy with a goat head mask but not everything has to be so goofy, you know? Just let him be awesome, that was working fine. 2
Curt McGirt Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 He especially shouldn't be conflicted about kicking the shit out of Roderick Strong. 4 3

HarryArchieGus Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 CO-Llision! The HOB squash to open was fun enough. The Savages belong in the 'Missed Opportunities' thread. I'd be curious what these Bears would look like after working a year of NJPW tours? The HOB-FTR square off post match was fine if a bit cornball. Cash passing it over to Dax momentarily felt like a corporate seminar. Nonetheless, stoked for HOBvFTR. The Lio Rush promo was good. Lio v Swerve is more to look forward to. The Outrunners v Top Flight was very good. The Martins with back to back strong showings. So... Darius/Action as a heel team, and Dante a solo babyface? I'm okay with that. FTR 'Watching on' - these shots always look shitty. The angle sucks and the direction feels questionable. The Acclaimed/Hurt Syndicate segment was good. I can't say I wouldn't love watching Benjamin/Lashley squash those two - Assman too. Roddy v Beast was fairly good if slightly underwhelming. The Archer post match attack was fine, but didn't like seeing Brian Cage with the lazy applause. Be a Bad Ass for crying out loud. The Mariah May promo was excellent. This lady knows what it takes to be a heel in 2024. Anna's reply was solid. Lexi Nair would benefit from some better direction. Or to simply watch back what she does on camera. Randomly emoting is ridiculous. As are any of her 'Joining me now...' introductions - that's a creative choice tho. No blame to her. They really should've had Mariah do something shady in the win over Anna to justify a third match - no DQ. Am I forgetting something, I thought Mariah beat her cleanly? I ffwdd passed the Stat squash. I dug the LFI promo. I love the absurdity of Jake Roberts and his new family. They need to move on from the Mortos comedy. It's been milked. Further, I'm not into having him constantly moan/groan like a goof. Silence is deadly. Jack Perry v Andretti was a fairly strong outing. The Garcia/Perry post match like a lot of these set-ups was corny but fine. I'm very much into the forthcoming match. The Julia Hart video was silly, but I sense works with the key demo. Very much enjoyed the Outrunners promo package. If only I needed a fanny pack. Garcia/Daddy Magic promo was more cheesewhiz, but fine - microwavable Rocky. I really liked Nick Wayne v AR Fox. Fox as per usual looked great in defeat. Not that I'm totally with it either, but I like seeing Wayne try a new finisher. Anything is better than another leaping Cutter. The MxM promo was excellent. These guys are so good they've made me interested in Johnny TV. The Claudio/Pac/Wheeler v Briscoe/KOR/Ishii Main was excellent. Nice tight battle throughout. I really hope Pac/Claudio pair off and take the Tag titles at some point. Their chemistry is incredible. The Mox/OC interjections were very good. The crowd was hot for Orange. I liked the entire post match starting with the Superman punch to Yuta. Crowd was hot for OC. Fun finish. Pretty, pretty, pretty good Collision this week. 2
AxB Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 They noted on comms that Malakai Black only has 3 singles losses in AEW. They are to Cody Rhodes, Adam Copeland and Adam Cole. So clearly, his weakness is to people with names that start in Co. FTR are screwed, if they don't change their names to Codax and Cocash. 1 1
Ramo2653 Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 Catching up on Collison now since I was at a bonfire last night. Had a feeling the Outrunners would win to mix things up and Top Flight has some other stuff going on. For all the jokes about the WWE backstage watching TV stuff, AEW hasn't figured it out and somehow makes it worse? Yeah, Mariah is dope and just nails it. Once she turned on Toni she makes sure not to lean into comedy which can be hard when you're supposed to be bad because it can be absurd at times. And yes she beat Anna Jay clean a few weeks ago, after she got out of the sleeper, she hit Anna with a stun gun on the ropes and then a forward rollup. They have an argument either way regarding a third match so Anna throwing out the "never challenge again" stip makes sense but the No DQ part seems a bit much. Mortos groaning like an actual beast it odd and if JR were on commentary he'd be openly shitting on it. Wayne/AR was dope but Fox just passing out after the staples was weird. Also Wayne was another member of the bad self tanner application club from looking at this hands or he's got some circulation problems. Yeah, Lexi's direction in those segments is off? It's like she's trying to blend in parts of her MIT stuff with Athena but it doesn't work without the context? I have some more ideas on why the Death Riders stuff doesn't work for me (brother). Mox's message is disingenuous of course because they cheat when it gets tough. Marina getting involved with no one to counter also doesn't work, either get a woman to help or get physical, we don't have to go to the days of HHH and Austin beating down Lita with a chair or Randy hitting RKOs on Stacy Kiebler but something has to come up. And it's not like they're making a big emphasis on it for a later payoff or something. But the main thing for me is Mox doesn't actually pull off shock without looking goofy. It might just be his face or something but every time someone gets one up on his crew, he looks so goddamn goofy it reminds me of WWE Ambrose.
Curt McGirt Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 He definitely shouldn't be jumping the rail and running away when the heat turns up. You mentioned Wayne's new finisher and that was pretty gnarly looking. What was it, some kind of Pedigree x Canadian Destroyer?
southofheavy Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 The Outrunners rule. They got some good territory bullshit happening and I am here for it. Gimme them vs The Nightmares on Continental TV any ol' time. Nigel's line "When it comes crashing down and it hurts inside" during Turbo's hulk-up was so good. Good promo by Anna Jay. She's puttin' it together. 1
Curt McGirt Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 That was pretty good. She had that "so mad I'm crying" thing going on. 1
Jamal Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 I agree that Mariah is such a heel that you love to hate. She just gets it. I liked the match with her and Anna Jay so the rematch should be fun. Speaking of someone who is getting the character stuff right, Harley Cameron is on the verge of becoming a loveable loser. 1
Nice Guy Eddie Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 Now, that she's a face again, I expect Kris Statlander to be the one to counter Marina once she's past Mercedes and Kamille. 4
ExcellenceofAirPollution Posted November 10, 2024 Posted November 10, 2024 (edited) I've always liked Kip Sabian for some reason. I don't know why, he's got some goofy charisma and I can just as easily feel bad for him as enjoy him getting his ass kicked I verily hope they do what just drew suggested for Takeshita/Cole. Either that or Takeshita kills him for 10 minutes and gets screwed by Ospreay (he's so over I don't think fans would shit on Cole winning if Will does all the work). KT and Cole don't even feel like they belong in the same promotion right now. Bad ass super over International champion who's been defending all over and has had a bunch of great matches this year including a strong G1 run against..........Budge? Why is this happening? I've only seen the first Lio-Kommander match as I've fallen behind on the last couple weeks of shows. Last weeks and this weeks Rampage? Edited November 10, 2024 by ExcellenceofAirPollution I managed to pack the word 'him' 3 times in one sentence. time for a nap 1
AxB Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 Yes, the two Lio vs Komander matches were on back to back Rampages. 1

At some point, soon I hope, some crowd is going to be well aware of Cameron's Rampage/Collision Summer/Fall catalog and go completely crazy for her. Like Bill in the UK or the Outrunners in Kentucky. I can't wait for this. 1
TheVileOne Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 AEW's TV product right now is bland, boring, and bad. There's no excitement. There's no buzz. The main storyline with the Death Riders isn't doing it and is not working. CM Punk leaving basically killed the product. Showing the footage of CM Punk at All In was a death sentence. Tony Khan should be ashamed and embarrassed of himself. 2 3 1
DreamBroken Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 I usually hate the 'can never challenge for the title again' stip as I don't see any way Anna Jay's taking the title at this point, though I'd like to see it one day, but I'm looking forward to the match after enjoying their last two. Popped for Ashley Vox showing up, but also knew immediately she was going to last about as long as the last three Zoey Lynn appearances. Mortos/Strong, Wayne/Fox, and the main were all pretty fun 1

Can I just say, as an old head who recently smoked up after probably 30 years of laying off, but said "fuck it" because it was my bday and it's legal now where I live...today's shit is insane. I was on another planet in a very bad way. I still have one pre roll left and plan on doing a little at a time. Jesus Christ. You're not kidding. I'm a gummy guy and a 50mg is generally my "sweet spot". Decided to try a 100 and my resting heart rate jumped to 150 bpm for like 2 hours straight. Legit thought I'd need a ride to a Local Medical Facility©. Back to 50s I go. lol

I felt like I was walking on a sponge. I was completely disoriented, could barely speak coherently, sparkles in my vision, just laying on my couch like ooohhhhh fuuuuck i am too old for this shit. If Emilio Estevez showed up and said "they can't hear you, we're in the spirit world, dummy!" I wouldn't have been shocked. I woke up in the middle of the night feeling almost sobered up and thanked every god I've ever known that I wasn't high anymore. Edited November 12, 2024 by Technico Support
Shartnado Posted November 13, 2024 Posted November 13, 2024 The Outrunners beating Top Flight is something that would not have happened a year ago. I can sort of see where this might be heading and the match between FTR and HOB could go either way and still there is a way to get to the end game of FTR turning on The Outrunners with or without the belts (but probably only when one of them are champions). Nick Wayne now has the best finisher in AEW. The problem is that there's about 10% of the roster who can take it correctly and at least 50% of that lot is going to kick out it, since they won't be losing to a Nick Wayne. The main event of Collision was fantastic and it looked pretty good for the faces for a moment, but the heels always find an opportunity. Just like IRL. Daniel Garcia may actually win the TNT-title. Well, it's going to be pretty rough if he doesn't, after this. If The Young Bucks were kinda just written out for a while with the document shredding segment and it doesn't actually lead to anything, I'm going to be pretty pissed. But I'm going wait for a bit. They actually got a nice little mini-feud out of Mariah May vs Anna Jay. That's pretty cool. Over on Rampage, Harley Cameron going through her "rather inconsequential" year in one breath was once again pretty awesome! Undisputed Kingdom on a winning streak on Rampage. Is this a first for them? Probably not, but sure feels like it. Cage and Archer are going to snuff that out pretty quickly, though! 1
