AxB Posted November 8, 2024 Posted November 8, 2024 AEW's locker room, it's not very leaky. Like, we don't know what goes on backstage there. Brodie Lee got sick, nobody knew, nobody talked about it. Which does mean that sometimes certain narratives can take hold, and become widely believed and clung on to, even though there's no way to know if they're actually true or not. Malakai Black is injured or retiring or going back to WWE, Chris Jericho attempted something icky with Kylie Rae, Something happened backstage with Kris Statlander and Stokely Hathaway. None of these are things we know. They are things we have heard speculation about. They might be true, they might be lies, they might be more complicated than that. We don't know. But by the gods a lot of people seem to think these stories are nailed to the House of Lords. 3
KriskitaKoloff Posted November 8, 2024 Posted November 8, 2024 If you want to kill a stable, rename them from Combat Club to Deathriders. Also, I read the Cole vs Black match ended in a goofy ass hug, AEW is legit the worst booked company in America right now. 1
Brandon Bones Posted November 8, 2024 Posted November 8, 2024 I went to Dynamite. I WOULD have had good seats if a third of the show wasn’t in the entrance aisle. I enjoyed the show eventually. Thing is? You go and buy tickets to something weeks in advance of the show with zero forecast of how you’ll feel about on the day. Day comes and I’m in a shitty mood, tired, and annoyed. To the surprise of no one. I proceed to hit the shitfuck outta my vapes and later a half dozen mini-bong rips once I got to my friends house in Manchester. Jeremy tells me that he has been seeing the AEW trucks coming into town since Monday. Which surprises me a bit since I figured a Dynamite set up in the arena would have been (at most) an overnight effort. In our pregame sesh I was bitching about the lack of exploitation of AEWs undercard when so many of their top tier guys are injured, elsewhere, and all fucked off for a reason (or no reason). Satnam Singh is RIGHT THERE! A legit GIANT that if booked carefully could be a huge draw. After all turning on the gravitas when you’re a giant is a mere flick of the switch. FFW to the show and Colt Cabanas out to take on Singh in the opener. I was pleased. I was fucking rrrrrrripped at this point experiencing not one but TWO highs. It was mostly comedy gaga that was fun but brief. They protected Satnam pretty well by keeping it short and decisive. But like I said. Make him mean. By the time the tag opener started. The crowd had got really loud and it was really fucking with me. Darby hit that post and he just kept spinning. Ran into a co-worker who moonlights as security at the arena. He is a few years older than me and came into wrestling during the Backlund era. He was pleased the Bucks weren’t on the show. Makes sense. He bonds immediately with Jeremy over this. Just Drew wept. Mox is a scary looking dude up close. I like this Hurt Syndicate group. Never saw the WWE stuff. Shelton hopefully will get his run. Place your bets on him taking another springboard into a super kick and THIS TIME he kicks out. Hayter may be bae. But she doesn’t seem to have her sea legs back yet. Seemed like the match was built to be more than it was. I thought the Cole/Black match was ok. But only because I’m baffled as to what is going on. It didn’t register well the whole “Warriors Death” finish with me or the people around me. I don’t have the same problems with Cole that some folks do. But it’s definitely a bad (and familiar) place to be for Cole to have that WWE flavored “fans ironically go against the grain” situation. Why isn’t Roddy screaming “ADAM” every time we see him? Wasn’t that over? Why is Omegas comeback happening in Japan? Now I’m off to watch the broadcast. I still love you AEW. 6 4 1

AEW desperately needs someone to pull people aside and tell them when their ideas are bad. I get that he's going for something similar to Will's Hidden Blade but it doesn't have the context of Will's move where he had built up to it and it was originally used when everything else had failed. Going for a softer looking version of Ishii's sliding lariat/Masato Tanaka's sliding D without the context of you trying other stuff to no avail doesn't work and that's why the crowd doesn't buy into it. IMO of course. 3 hours ago, Craig H said: She was just heel and turned babyface after whatever happened behind the scenes between her an Stokely. I don't see them turning her back heel so soon. Curt McGirt Posted November 9, 2024 Posted November 9, 2024 I forgot that my goddamn DVR cut out on me before the end of Dynamite so I went to either Father China or Mother Russia to watch it, not sure which. "I Came To See Kip Sabien" is one hell of a joke sign. (Daddy Magic also got one but that's cool by me.) The security looking like terrorists was also funny. How do you scratch up a diamond? Man, Penelope vs. Jaime was chippy. Dem ladies were wrestling like they spit in each other's Starbucks; even Penelope's backflippy-do thing in the corner hit with full impact (and they used the God's Eye POV camera on it! Nice). I also love Hayter's '70s Barbara Mandrell perm with the super ginger color, that's a bravely old look that's great on her. (#deanreference) Nigel waffling on with Tony about stealing moves was really stupid and irritating. Tony should have shut him up by saying Gordon Solie was the fucking man and ten times better than either of them will ever be. Anyway, match was still a definitely crowd-pleaser. Fletcher gets some wild air when he spills out of the ring. Hobbs of course looked great and I'm very happy he's back; hopefully he won't get lost in the crowd. The brawl at the end was good too. I'm really not sure how Cole gets a shot at the International champ (who was becoming a very good tweener and that seems to have diminished) in just his third match back... that's pretty unwarranted. But Takeshita will knock his block off, hopefully. 3

I don't watch AEW as assiduously as I should, but I love Kip Sabian as a ludricous comedy midcarder. I have to psyche myself up to watch a lot of SRS BSNS stuff, y'all are not selling me on Adam Cole's return; but Kip Sabian's goofy ass is something I've always got a minute for. It helps of course, that I frequently don't need more than a minute for it. 4

Also, I read the Cole vs Black match ended in a goofy ass hug, AEW is legit the worst booked company in America right now. I've always found investigating for myself and then commenting to be a stronger strategy. I thought Cole/Black's "ass-hug" (very funny) was inappropriate to the story, but an interesting attempt to get passed Cole jeers for defeating another babyface or mostly cheered wrestler. I'm a bit of a sucker for sportsmanship and camaraderie amongst warring competitors. I thought the match was better than the Cole-haters would suggest. The finish was certainly missing a spark and unnearned tho. That said, I didn't think anything was particularly awful or worth dwelling upon. I suppose that does depend on your acceptance of Adam Cole (baby). I'm cool with Cole. To me he's a movie star with a modicum of in ring talent and good mic skills. I totally get the issues with this MJF feud, but I'm finding it all fascinating seeing this convoluted story play out. A lot of heavy lifting. The twist of the crowd turning on Cole is kind of an exciting prospect. I much prefer the legacy associated with Moxley's 'Death Riders' name, which has a much stronger identity, to the (when considered) awkward 'BCC'—a name tied to their mentor, who jumped back to WWE a long time ago. "Worst booked in America?" So on top being inferior to the wildly popular but less than great - Raw, Smackdown, and NXT shows - the consistently fun and entertaining, and, yes, flawed (in the world of pro wrestling no less) AEW Dynamite is inferior to: MLW, GCW, TNA, and legendary booker Billy Corgan's NWA? I just wanted to flesh out the reality of choices there. Edited November 9, 2024 by HarryArchieGus 2

Then MJF can be like "you win" and Cole is all busted up for the PPV match. I still don't understand why we're pretending Adam Cole is special in any way but if you're gonna do it, that's how. 1
Curt McGirt Posted November 9, 2024 Posted November 9, 2024 (edited) Kip is just one of those 'TNA Stink' guys for me. He'll never be over in my household. It's the same for Matt Taven and Mr. Kanellis. Death Riders sounds good to me; I agree that the Blackpool thing is a little over by now (and I just thought of "Blackpool Comedy Club"). If the team was five Claudios or just a tag team of Claudio and Yuter then that would be fine to be BCC... or BBC as Tony screwed up and called it haha. ...and I went on Wiki and it is now officially Death Riders? Or did somebody just Wiki that up? EDIT: I want it to be "Deathriders" instead but that's just me Edited November 9, 2024 by Curt McGirt

It's hard for me to tell you otherwise whenever 'I'm Matt Taven' appears on my screen, but he and Bennett have been a consistently strong tag team never afraid to take one for the team. Bennett in particular does some wonderful stooging. I've long since believed Kip Sabian needed to move on, but I somehow find myself intrigued to see what Christian Cage can make of him. I attribute it in part to Christian's wonderful sense of humour. Also, his off camera influence on Nick Wayne seems to have been enormous. Wayne's all around game has gotten a lot tighter. Not to say he wouldn't benefit greatly from exchanging the Cutter variation for something not completely overused. Do believe me, I've mostly hated Kip Sabian to this point. What are some of your memories of his stinky TNA run? I never got a chance to see that. Edited November 9, 2024 by HarryArchieGus 1

The bad thing is 'TNA Stink' involves me not remembering a damn thing about a wrestler, just that they had a goofy look and/or were so vanilla they made no impact (heh) at all. And they have names I don't like. 'Kip' reminds me of the George Carlin bit on the last Botchamania where he ranted about how shitty boys' names were these days and they showed photos of the different wrestlers on the screen as he named them. (The best part of that was when he said "You know what a real man's name is? EDDIE." and guess who they throw up with a giant photo on the screen covering everything else unlike the smaller photos of the other wrestlers? ) Edited November 9, 2024 by Curt McGirt 1
Leonidas Posted November 9, 2024 Posted November 9, 2024 Speaking of forgiveness, once Willow is back from her concussion, we just need a 1 minute segment where Statlander apologises and begs for forgiveness and they hug it out, then the face turn won't fall so flat. Otherwise the abrupt change in character is very WWElike, treating the audience like their memories are only 1 show in length. 4

HarryArchieGus Posted November 9, 2024 Posted November 9, 2024 (edited) Re: 'The Show Y'all Been Waiting On' I skipped the Shida v Van opener and got right to the highlight of the show Harley Cameron. I hope everybody sees that fantastic promo. I skimmed the Kingdom v Infantry v Dark Order match. The Infantry are looking better as heels. Especially Bravo. The Kingdom a are well oiled machine. I like seeing a non-title tag feud being set up with Bennett/Taven and Archer/Cage. The Roddy Strong/Jake Roberts segment was another highlight. That seemed to be Roberts' most coherent and maybe best promo in AEW. 'Beast v Roddy is a Main Event in any arena in the world'. The Vendetta promo was interesting. A little corny, kind of a neat try and not entirely unsuccessful. I really want this to work for talented Deona. Top Flight v Beef/Drake was the Martins best match in awhile. Beef continues to impress as does this new meaty team. Leila Grey lip syncing the Top Flight opening will never not be very, very strange. I'm digging hot under the collar Action Andretti. I loved Schiavone talking about him always being 'hot' about something. The Lio v Komander main event was solid with a strong finishing stretch. My edited version of Rampage was a lot of fun.
