  2. HAPPY ST PATRICK’S DAY greatest moment in AEW history

  3. Honestly, in terms of the Austin comparison, I think a good example is how Brit Baker got more over being in the wheelchair with Reba. Saying that, I’m impressed with AEW’s respect towards the wrestlers privacy. We don’t know what’s going on and if the best advice is to rest than please rest. Examples can be pulled where a return from injury is booked well and makes for an impactful moment. Also where it kills momentum. Wrestling storytelling is an interesting medium where there are so many factors that can play into making something great or bad: What city they’re in, unexpected injuries, other people becoming more over, controversies forcing change, botched in ring moment, etc. Do I think an injured Yuta being on tv adds to anything? Probably not but I’m sure they could come up with something cool. I’m sure him running out and making a save or screwing someone when he returnscould be cool too. Brit Baker is an example for this now as well. I was getting a bit tired of her, now that she’s been gone I’m actually super excited for her to come back and have a promo off with Mercedes or fight with Storm. She was a perfect example of staying on tv before and now she’s a great example of being off tv. Ricky Starks is an example of someone that has had and lost momentum. There’s been times he’s disappeared and I’m bummed. This last time he had momentum they were still using him as tag champs with Big Bill and I feel the momentum for him fizzled again. He wasn’t used, he was used. We can blame booking or performers or external circumstances. I’m starting to lean towards wrestling is weird and a little bit of everything can influence a little bit of everything. Do I want more video packages? In theory, yes. I just love edited short hype pieces. Do I want a ton of them, no. On Twitter, not so much here, it gets so disingenuous with “Who is this?” like towards Okada. He literally already main evented a PPV and had hype around building that. The CMLL guys showing up came off of the BCC getting in their faces. It was very simple but it was there. The point is we’re getting something you can’t see on US tv elsewhere. The mystery and then technical excellency of Hechicero being discovered in the match was very fun. I do find the transition from BCC to Jericho (like what AEW did with the Kingston feud) to be eh. But meh. Jokes aside, The Casuals as a modern day J.O.B. Squad would be pretty sweet. Right now, how I enjoy wrestling is I actually watch (when I can) AEW because I prefer their matches and the presentation and I look up clips of WWE because it’s fun keeping up to date with their stories. They’re far from perfect as well, but it’s a really fun time having two bigger companies putting out content at such a high level for both their standards. Give me Danielson vs Shibata on Collision and give me Cody and I crying as he holds up the belt at Wrestlemania. Give me stupid but fun Judgement Day locker room segments where they’re like Pinky and the Brain trying to take over the WWE or someshit and give me Penta taunting in the face of danger as if he is Friedrich Nietzsche staring into the abyss and some jumping into a cutter or super kick 2010’s ROH when they had tv guy stares back. RAMBLE COMPLETE. I need a nap.

  8. Hey, if a little gatekeeping can weed out the same old tired-ass talking points every week, then let’s keep some gates, baby! Strong Collision this week. They’re going to be near me next month right outside of Cincinnati. I’m thinking I’m going to need to go on the off chance that Danielson gets another dream match that week.

  9. Everyone says it so often it's cliche, but nothing really has recaptured the pacing, cadence, and meaty weight of movies like AKI's WCW and WWF games. I had to go get a new HDMI/USB combo cord to get the N64 to work on my modern television, but it was worth it. These games still feel incredible to play. So did Def Jam Vendetta and Fight For New York. AKI just had insane fighting/wrestling game talent. I'm not sure any stateside wrestling game has made me feel like I can break down an opponent through targeting like the AKIs. I'm glad that I didn't settle for emulating them on my PC this time around and busted out the carts.

  20. I agree, thought he was going to develop well in to a solid babyface from the looks of things, but of course now he's gone in the complete opposite direction. Interested to see the new character/direction, I hope he does well when he starts in ring. Also agreed with everyone else's comments on the tag tournament. Was wishing for something as close as possible to the Crockett Cups of 86-88 with the Sting connection. A small tournament especially considering the final isn't until Dynasty next month. the BCC is scheduled for CMLL next Friday on the 29th so we should find out for sure on Moxley soon. As for Fenix, he had re-aggravated an old injury when he went out back in October after the quick title loss back to Orange. He did an interview while in LA a couple months ago and said he was dealing with the worst injury of his career but that recovery was going well.

  23. It was lost in the Picture in Picture segment, but Carlie Brovo is absolutely from the Ricky Steamboat school of selling. It’s glorious. Some people sell for the back row. This dude was selling for the back row in some other city. They initially announced the House Rules match as an “Open House” match and I immediately thought about Julia and Adora battling throughout a house for sale while a realtor frantically tried to stop them.

  25. There’s some heavy shit that sneaks its way into episodes very subtly, too. The one where Chilli’s friend visits and it’s heavily implied that she’s drifted away because she can’t have kids and it’s hard for her to be around the Heelers and see them so happy. There’s also a moment in the episode where the girls are putting on a show for their parents re-enacting how they met. Bingo is pretending to be pregnant with a balloon under her shirt. The balloon pops and Bandit quickly grabs Chilli’s hand and gives her a sad look. I took that as them having a miscarriage at some point. Tears me up every time. There’s some lighter, fun subtle stuff too, like the hungover episode. On one of the newer ones where they’re at the pharmacy and the kids are using the video screens to find their friend, the bulldog dad is buying protein powder and takes a hit of breath spray before talking to one of the moms.

  29. I'm definitely thinking Mox is injured and the original idea was indeed FTR/BCC finale. Now the cheap brackets, I dunno... Get it over fast? Bigger plans after? If the booking has been spoiled, there could be a bunch of reasons.

  31. I thought because it was STING'S RETIREMENT that triggered the belts being vacated that they'd really want to go out of their way to have a big, special, memorable tournament. That and they never vacate belts. I would have liked 16 or 32 teams and you can play up the March Madness aspect. Feels like such a no-brainer and TNT/TBS carries the actual NCAAs. On the other hand I get maybe not wanting to devote so much TV time to tag team matches when they're debuting all this new talent and already struggle to get everybody on tv. The first rd. would be full of teams that are never on TV. You could split the difference, put some first rd. matches on Youtube to drive some traffic there. Do it Crockett Cup style, give a few teams byes, make it a bigger deal. Just feels like a missed opportunity to do something special. AEW really hasn't had the best track record when it comes to traditional tournaments

  34. When I saw that The Infantry broke up two pins and Murphy pulled up Dean's head on the third attempt, I was instantly like "Infantry is winning this." Then out came Briscoe, and I was like YUP. Also, I'm not familiar with the team that well, I've always loved The Captain but haven't seen them since they've been shipped off to ROH. The name is a bit of a misnomer, as the Navy doesn't have an infantry. Why does everyone in "House Rules" matches pick the STUPIDEST stipulations? None of them so far have made any sense. Man, that tag team tournament bracket is pretty depressing. You're saying they couldn't come up with at least 12 or 16 teams?

  38. Didn't The Infantry confront FTR last week? I figured they'd be wrestling them instead of HOB. People mentioned wanting to see a surprise in the tag tournament so I guess this is it. Good on The Infantry as they've been putting in the work on the undercard from the get-go though I'm bummed about less HOB in the tournament. Really good match between Danielson and Shibata without any cringe moments. Is Julia Hart the biggest AEW original success so far?

  41. A week ago I noticed some anomalies with the water supply. Turns out it was two separate leaks. I'm not one for messing with plumbing or electricity. The first leak was fixed on Monday. The second on Wednesday. Fixing the first revealed the second. Since the house is 40+ years old and the water lines(Quest) are obsolete any sort of repair requires some splicing. All is well for now. The next step would be a "repiping"(which would modernize the plumbing, but it's not cheap) and then everything would be good to go.

  42. Rampage has slowly become the most underrated Wrestling show on TV (or streaming). Definitely below A and B, but much higher for my tastes than the action on the other channels. OC/Trent v Dark Order was good. The vest done up is a better presentation, but Uno loves to show it off. There was some officiating issues that I blame the teams for, but it was good. I very much like OC and Trent as a team. A Righteous video package, and for what reason? Tournament entry, uh, nope. Please free Big Dutch from Vincent. This team was easily handled in a handi-cap match on a PPV. It's over. Please, please, please: Dutch and Archer! No begrudging Vincent his money - just cash the checks and stand in the corner, if you wouldn't mind. Angelo/Zak Knight segment was to the point. Great angle on Ang's punch. I love that they aren't wasting time to get to the match. Knight looked kinda impressive on Honor Club - what do you say @DreamBroken ? I wish for a day when I can tag again and move between pages. Toni/Mariah squash was as good as squashes get. This team is outrageously fun. Can it be - Timeless Toni a babyface! I can get into a Rosa/Deonna team. Rosa needs help on the mic, and to carry a bit more of the work load. Deonna might need a bit of an upper echelon roster rub. I suspect heel Deonna will surprise a few ppl. Amanita video was good. They don't cross promote ROH nearly enough (WBD?). Tag Title Brackets look fine. Tho, the complaints filed in the thread are completely understandable and warranted. I was hoping for at least 16 pairings, but whatever. Mox/Claudio injury report? WTF. Komander v Takeshita was wonderful. Run this back a few times over like it's ECW99 and Tajiri v Crazy - I doubt anybody will complain, especially those that don't watch the C show. Serena Deeb video with more of the same shit. Big Deeb fan, but time to move on from the single note samba. Still, I back the play of video packages to get ppl over. Roddy/Kingdom v 'Every Flight is a Red Eye Flight', uh alright then. Terrific bout to close out a terrific show. Ha, was Matt Taven trying to be a cool heel with his Celtics jersey. Nice try 'I'm Matt Taven'. Love to see the Flights take the Trios crown. Roderick Strong is so goddamn great. Total pro. Let's get him running thru the solid workers in the mid and bottom of the card now. Another terribly fun show (on a Saturday morning).

  43. I love most things AEW do, but those tournament brackets are disgracefully bad. They couldn't even stretch to 16 teams?! If you bring in maybe two NJPW teams (don't need to be Japan based either, why not West Coast Wrecking Crew?), two CMLL and two indy teams, you can easily make a 32 team bracket. Not this bullshit procession to Bucks getting a win back over FTR in the final. Where are Moxley and Claudio? Gates Of Agony? You gave Lionhook their silly team name, sling them in the mix to progress their storyline a bit. The Gunns, The Acclaimed, does having a six man tag title make them allergic to normal tag matches? AEW is so great when it ignores all the silly unwritten rules that WWE falls back on, I wish they could have ignored the one that says wrestling fans are too dim to understand large and complex tournaments, you know, like they have in nearly every other sport.

So saw the store had a used copy for like 10 bucks. "Hey you need to see this since you and Tabby love odd movies" 3 days later he calls me telling me theyy made it 10 minutes into the movie and "you can have it for free" Right now trying to track down a cheap copy of Detroit Rock City on Blu Ray.

  48. i just want to pop in here and point out that the 80s Transformers and GI Joe cartoons are legitimately good. they're not the fucking Sopranos, or Game of Thrones, or what have you, but for 80s kids TV, animated or not, they are pillars of quality. Their contemporaries: He-Man, Thundercats, MASK, GoBots, et. all., are all objectively of lower quality, but Transformers and GI Joe i found hold up reasonably well for what they are. source: i love cartoons (you may remember my 'Help me find all the cartoons' thread from a few years ago) and finished rewatching those two series a year or two back.
