I always did like that Tessa (yeah I know) won the World title. And now their Digital Media title is intergender, which is cool.

But what is the point of the digital media title?  Like does it change hands if the challenger does a perfectly executed sick roast of the champion on Twitter?  If the challenger successfully infects the champion's PC with malware?  12 month Squarespace subscription on a pole match?

All I've seen is the title defended on their regular-ass TV show.  But I do watch on Sling, so maybe that counts?  Fuck, man, I don't know.  Don't make me write some long post about the death of traditional content delivery methods or whatever and how everything is essentially "digital media" now.

Now I want to see a wrestler with a throwback gimmick holding the Over the Air Antenna TV Title.

I have been under the assumption (and I'm just throwing this out there) the Digital Media champion is just someone who is "popular" on Twitter or Instagram. Jordynne Grace and Matt Cardona as your first two champions would seemingly align with that thought, but they don't come out and say "hey this person is champion because they go viral on Twitter every other Tuesday".

Aka; it's just another title with a goofy name. Sometimes trying to be "too cute" or too "inside baseball" isn't the way to go. Right Eddie Kingston?

I'm so thankful that Tony Khan finds Intergender Wrestling as repulsive as I do.  I too will never be comfortable watching a man assault a woman.  Impact Wrestling's insistence on displaying these type of matches feels like one of the biggest reasons nobody takes them seriously.  And why they continue to wallow in a state of near careless existence.  Which is a shame when you see how terrific their talent roster is.

The Digital Media Championship feels like the kind of joke title being bandied about in this discussion of unnecessary additional AEW title belts.

I don't think it's that.  It's wrestling and it's a work.  I think it has more to do with indies doing intergender matches to get YouTube hits.  That's modern day apartment wrestling.  Schneider hinted at it in this week's Matches of the Week article.  Dudes aren't watching those videos in such numbers because of the matwork.  Just think of all those Joey Ryan matches.

Woof. I'll be restrained in my reply here. But the reason intergender matches are a thing and popular is because it's female workers pushing for it. They want to be seen as equals and not relegated to being just the best in a Women's Division. It's not much different than the weight limit conversation. A cruiserweight doesn't want to be relegated to  being the best of a segment of the roster. They want the opportunity to be the best of the whole damn company. And that's why indy's feature it. It's not a freak show thing or a kink. It's giving female performers a platform to show they can be every bit as good as the male performers. And in a lot of cases much much better than them.

Probably because Adam Cole looked like an actual Warhammer miniature.

It's literally physically impossible for HHH to do that.

I was leaning more towards "kid on Halloween" but that's accurate enough.

But that isn't the only way to achieve something like that equality. I don't think Britt Baker is particularly relegated. Ok admittedly she hasn't been put in the main-event PPV spot. But that could well happen.

Btw 5-10 guys is way, way off.

AEW Hoss Division

1. Ten

2. Cabana

3. Dustin

Uno

4. Hager

Mox

5. Keith Lee

6. Lance Archer

7. Luther

8. Max Caster

9. Miro

10. Comoroto

11. Hobbs

12. Marshall

13. Spears

Butcher (?)

14. Wardlow

15. Kingston

16. Luchasaurus

17. Brody King

18. Bononi

19. Drake

20. Danhausen (well over 300lbs)

Edit: I think Matthews is billed 225 if you need a serious No. 20. And oh yeah, they extended Brian Cage!! Also Billy. And Redbeard.

There's enough for a Hoss Casino Royale anyway. I think we can all get behind that.

Addy Starr vs. Chris Dickinson has 235 Million views on YouTube. Chris Dickinson vs. Matt Makowski has 9,000

Drew from Beyond has learned that the amount of visible cleavage in a YouTube video’s thumbnail is directly proportional to how many views it gets. But the actual matches are Wrestling matches. Is it fair, to say that something which is marketed as T & A, but actually contains appreciable content, should only be considered as sex fluff?

I guess I can’t enjoy any actor who performs in a movie wearing open toed shoes if someone has made a wikifeet page about them.

(Also Chris Dickinson matches used to get reuploaded to YouPorn Gay as “Sexy Men Wrestling”, fwiw.

Well, that's the thing.  We are used to homoerotic professional wrestling.  Heteroerotic strikes a nerve in internet wrestling viewers, it appears.

I don't have any real problem with Intergender wrestling if it works in context, I wrote up Masha Slamovich vs. AC Mack for the Ringer because I really liked it, but you have to be willingly obtuse to claim that "the reason that they are popular is that Women's wrestlers push for them." Addy Starr wanting to be treated as an equal isn't the reason that video has 235 Million views.

Well, to be fair, he is the dirty daddy.

Anyway, I thought the rise of intergender wrestling had more to do with indy promoters cynically thinking paying two women (or god forbid, four women for a tag) was a non-drawing waste of money, while paying one woman and having her wrestle a guy was a draw for various reasons already discussed here.

So was Ruby vs. Kingston in CHIKARA.

Anyway I'm sure the participants feel like it's about equality but those hits aren't there because of equality. "You want it to be one way. But it's the other way." - Marlo Stanfield

It's crazy you said that. I made a meme about that quote for my Instagram in 2014...and somebody randomly liked it today. Wild.

I've heard Tony speak about it a couple times in interviews.  I remember him specifically discussing something to do with somebody (Jordynne Grace?) being struck on the All In PPV and how he wanted nothing to do with that kind of thing.  Using the word 'repulsed' might have been a bit strong.  I'm not sure I should use the word for my reaction either.  As @Phil Schneidermentioned there's certainly room to discuss how it could work in different contexts.  Impact's failings with intergender in particular is kind of its own topic of discussion.

(I've just been made aware of the Ringer column thru the excellent pod.  Looking forward to it.)

I like how it’s assault when it’s a fake match between a man and a woman, but it’s not assault when it’s man vs man or woman vs woman. None of this is real, we’re all here analyzing every microsecond of two or more people planning out a match or slapping their thigh/stomping the mat to mimic a hit. I’ll never understand the hate intergender stuff gets, but oh well. I have more of a problem with unprotected chair shots or real headbutts than I do Chris Dickinson in a match against Priscilla Kelley or whoever

I also don’t watch Impact, just clips or follow the results, so I assumed the Digital Media title was basically just an Internet title (or basically a TV title).

Considering the sensitivity of issues regarding violence against women would be a start to how one might understand.  The it's fake-take is a bit tricky - would we accept racism and homophobia in 2022 as acceptable avenues for fake heel wrestlers to explore?

Trying to frame a fuckin’ pro wrestling match as being on the same level as legitimate violence against women is an active disservice to the same issue you just tried to seemingly champion.

I tend to find the women's division one of the stronger aspects of Impact these days. If intergender stuff means more of the Knockouts, all the better. And if there are certain figures firmly in control of the main Knockouts belt, it's a good thing that there are other opportunities on the card for meaningful matches. Not sure about talk of "Impact's failings" in this regard.

Championing?  I replied with a path to how somebody might begin to understand the hate, or let's say dislike, for intergender wrestling.  I would offer that suggesting this consideration is not in fact an active disservice to the topic.
