piranesi Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Am I watching the Broadway version of METROPOLIS? METROPOLIS ON ICE!
Death From Above Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 You have Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, what more do you want? 1
Mister TV Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Peter the Great, Richard the Lionhearted... Other countries have such cool nicknames for their legendary leaders. I wish we would've carried on that tradition and done that with some of ours. Washington the Red Coat Slayer has such a nice ring... What about Zachary "Old Rough & Ready" Tyler?
Burgundy LaRue Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 There's also Aaron "Who Shot Ya?" Burr. 1
muhammedboehm Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Jimmy 'Penut' Carter, Ronald 'The Gipper' Reagan, William 'Bubba' Jefferson Cliton, W., 'Tricky' Dick Nixon. 1
Niners Fan in CT Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 I really wish these commentators would shut the hell up. Now is not a time to speak about democracy and the nerve to say "I wonder how they will handle prison camps, etc" It's like me saying next time we have an Olympics, "hey, I wonder how they will handle slavery and all the terrible inhumane shit we did to the Native Americans!" Just shut up already. 5
pipGofern Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 I agree but it is a fascinating question. Can you imagine that creative meeting? "How do we represent the murder and oppression of millions of people through dance and puppetry?"
Charlie M. Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 I really wish these commentators would shut the hell up. Or drone strikes, wiretapping, foreign prison camps, gay marriage only being legal in a couple states, the gigantic growing unemployment rate, etc. Other countries probably would bring that shit up.
Death From Above Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 That was one of the reasons I was happy Brian Williams (the Canadian one) isn't doing the Olympics this year. He has treated them as his own personal political platform for a quarter of a century. MacLean and Mansbridge just wouldn't shut up and I think they could have let a less is more approach in there, but they kept the politicking to a reasonable, expected amount.
pipGofern Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 I've found Matt Lauer marginally more tolerable this time. However, the male commentator who isn't Matt Lauer is the equivalent of the "well when I was abroad" dickhead in every college class.
Kuetsar Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 I gotta say, although it'll get me labeled as UnAmerican or some stupid shit nowadays.. The Russian National Anthem is a beautiful piece of music. Either it or the French one is the best in the world, probably the Russian one. . .

Not to be that guy, but it was Zachary Taylor, and John Tyler..
Death From Above Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Watching the slopestyle snowboarding live, one of my tweets on Mark McMorris just got read on the live Canadian Olympic broadcast. That was... unexpected but pretty cool. My own (incredibly microscopically tiny) piece of Sochi.
Charlie M. Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Hiding from her? Why is the face so small?
SirFozzie Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Before there was vuvuzelas, there was the dutch speed skating fans with horns. And I know NBC (or in this case NBCSN) wants to show everything Olympic related, ,but the first training jump for women's ski jumping?
Pete Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 So apparently Japan has a speed skater named SHANE WILLIAMSON. Someone has to explain that deal to me...

dogwelder Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 So apparently Japan has a speed skater named SHANE WILLIAMSON. Someone has to explain that deal to me... According to this article, he has an Australian father and a Japanese mother.
SirFozzie Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Warning, do not go to espn.com for major olympic spoiler: Sage Kotsenberg wins the first US Gold of the Olympics, winning men's slopestyle
odessasteps Posted February 8, 2014 Author Posted February 8, 2014 Is reporting a live sporting event a spoiler?
