.....Toronto actually never wanted Stamkos anyways.

First Drake can't even get the Raptors onto the Kevin Durant meeting list, and now Stamkos stays in Tampa. It's a bad week for fans in the 6.

This is absolutely, in part, about the perceived lack of value in Eberle.

These are real things Peter Chiarelli said during his press conference. I am not making any of these up:

- Larsson needs to work on his skating

- He is "not a sexy defenseman"

- He could become a top pairing D-man... someday

If I was trying to sell a repeatedly wounded fanbase on a trade, these are not the words I would personally choose to use.

Taylor Hall is an established NHL all star who is yet to hit his peak, and is under a favourable contract for several more seasons. This is not a fair exchange anywhere but the most deluded imaginations, at this time and place.

This is not good hockey. But again, this is absolutely in part about just how devalued assets like Eberle appear to be to the rest of the NHL. I am disappointed, but it is what it is. If Larsson fails to take the next step, very quickly, this is an infamous day. It's all risk.

The Subban for Weber trade is awful for Montreal, of course. I like Shea Weber, but even from an optimistic view he's begun a decline. Subban has yet to peak, and is the better player today anyway.

I really like what Nashville has got right now. That's a good team.

Have we heard from Rusev and Lana about the trade yet?

Tavares is a slightly worse version of Hall, but he plays center so he gets faceoff stats. Trade the Islanders Martin Marincin. That's how this works, right?

I refuse to believe that, in a league of 30 teams, the best player you could acquire for Taylor Hall is Adam fricking Larsson. Awful, awful trade.

Nashville is my pick if the west of they can stay healthy. They won't look anything like the Trotz boredom of yesteryear.

Other than DFA, I feel for the TSN free agent hosts. They are going to die such a slow death on national TV.

It's Canada Day. We should all be outside with friends and beers anyway.

How is Hall's contract favorable???

This guy is going from playing with McDavid, RNH, Eberle, and Draisaitl to New Jersey.  There is going to be a regression next season.  Who on that lineup will support Hall?  He is going to get roughed up in the Patrick something fierce.  Teams are going to check and grind him into the ground.

You could put together a line of Hall/Palmieri/Henrique but nobody on that line is over 200 pounds or taller than 6 foot and maybe an inch.  Teams are going to be physical down low and against the boards all game long.

That said, New Jersey got something for Larsson so that is something.

That description sounds like it's from somebody that has never seen Taylor Hall play. He is so strong on the puck. His ability to drive to the net and protect the puck is world calibre. He has history with Henrique. Henrique will get him the puck and Hall will get it to the net. That is his game and it's why he's always had surprisingly good possession numbers despite being on an awful possession team.

And he's been doing it against the powder puffs on the Kings and Sharks rosters for years. I'm sure he'll be humbled by the monstrous Flyers and Rangers defenses.

He has to play defense in this division.

I have seen Hall play a lot.  Of offense and little defense.

It amazes me that people think of Edmonton as this team with tremendous talent yet they cannot sniff the playoffs.

Okay, well if that were true and not stuff you were just saying with conviction and no basis than why is he the only Oiler in the past two seasons with 100 games played and a positive goals for %? He's at 51.7% at 5v5, which is remarkable for how shitty the Oilers were the past two years and how many goals they gave up. Jesus McDavid is at 50.7% but only played 45 games. He's a phenomenal hockey player and the Oilers dumped him for a depth defenceman who could be a really good defensive specialist if he pans out and likely an overpriced power forward who is at the age when power forwards begin to decline (and he's already trending downwards). Just a stinker of a trade when looking at how great Taylor Hall is. Again, my only concern if I were Jersey would be that he plays so recklessly that he won't last for too long, but that's definitely a gamble I'm willing to take.

My favorite thing with PK are the whispers by some about character issues. Because obviously someone who gives $10 million to a children's hospital and gives freely of his time to those in need is a bad character guy.

I cannot like this enough.

A guy who is a Norris Trophy winner is uncoachable.

PK is a little too enthusiastic when he plays. Good Canadian players dont do that

That's pretty much what a Canadiens fan coworker told me today. PK "jumps up and down on the ice too much." Hockey fans are the worst.

Oilers apparently offered Lucic 7 years, $42 million.
