The Z Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 "Look, this guy is HUGE on the Internet. Our hardcore fans love him." "Great," Creative responded. "Then we don't have to do shit with him ever." Not sure if you're talking about Bryan or Ryder circa a couple years ago. But it works for both. I think almost that exact conversation was talked about in the CM Punk documentary.

Brysynner Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 The funny thing about the booking of the Rumble match is the only guy who's going to be more over coming out of it is Bryan. I don't see the reaction dying down anytime soon. The fans know Roman is the handpicked golden boy, and they aren't going to accept having another Cena. It's going to be quite the standoff between Vince and the Universe. And Vince will win. Not only will he win but if gets bad enough Bryan's not going to get another win while under WWE contract. I do enjoy a vindictive Vince telling Daniel he's gonna job to Zack Ryder in 30 seconds.....on Superstars I mean, if throwing away money and making your shows unwatchable is "winning," then yeah. For Vince it is, because he knows he'll have 2-3 million homes watching RAW each week, around 750k subscribers to WWE Network. He knows he's the only game in town since no one else will pour the money into their promotion that is required to get on TV and have your online brand easily accessible like the Network is
Patrick B. Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 And people will keep watching because wrestling fandom is a bleeping drug addiction that you need a twelve-step program to get away from. 2
SirSmUgly Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I mean, if his goal at this point is "doing pretty well in the present," then sure. I don't know how driving old fans away is supposed to help create future fans or how ignoring money that he could be making is a smart business move, but stability in mediocrity can be a win, too.
JCM Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Stability in mediocrity sounds like the new company slogan. 1
Brysynner Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Really Vince needs 750,000 people like me who are okay with Reigns winning the Rumble or who don't care about one match and find enjoyment in the Triple Threat from the Rumble And he needs those who will sit and watch PPVs with their young children and watch NXT with them so they'll be fans of the new guys when they come up (for the record my son's favorite wrestlers are: Bray Wyatt, Dean Ambrose, Kalisto and Finn Balor) 2
SirSmUgly Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Sure, I agree with that. I don't think this company is going out of business anytime soon. From all I can understand, they're stable financially. They won't be entering a boom period anytime soon, but they probably don't really need to, either. They can stay the course and remain profitable.
NikoBaltimore Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Going off of what Brysynner said, that is the key to making a difference. Other companies don't have the money/presence to make the average person tune in. Even JR for WK9 only made so much of an impact because there was pretty much no ads that made TV. If Impact found a way to advertise during Raw, then other companies should try and find a way too. That is unless WWE has limitations put in place in their TV deal. The idea that some big company is going to be competition is a thing of the past. Those of us that see NJPW, ROH, NXT, etc. need to show these to people that don't know. You can start with ones they know about (ADR in ROH, AJ in NJPW and so on) Maybe there they'll see those that they find interest in (Sami, Finn, Briscoes) If they show interest then from there it's all about showing them more of that from past events. If done right they're hooked. It's all about word of mouth anymore. It might be the best way to increase the fanbase for promotions that matter.
SirSmUgly Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I'll put it this way: I think it is far more likely that big-time pro wrestling dies in America than WWE ever gets a legitimate competitor for the #1 spot in the U.S. I actually think there is a pretty good argument to be made that big-time pro wrestling is dying right now, and WWE will eventually end up as a regional company at most, though I don't know if I believe that argument.
JohnnyJ Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 The WWE has done an excellent job with their signings over the past few years. Despite the valid criticisms about how some of the fan favorites are booked, WWE is still delivering great matches from performers the fans care about. As long as that is happening, they will be fine. Even if we get stuck with Bryan v. Sheamus, I'm sure I'm going to reluctantly enjoy the hell out of it. Both those guys can go.
SolidGoldBomb Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 And people will keep watching because wrestling fandom is a bleeping drug addiction that you need a twelve-step program to get away from. For any person who feels that watching wrestling is like a drug addiction, I would advise them to quit cold turkey. That includes wrestling message boards. 1

What if Sheamus wins in 18 seconds this year *ducks*

Curt McGirt Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiXLFv6JOsk I missed the three-way and came into the Rumble right as Bryan got tossed, so I only flipped back to Raw once or twice on Monday. Luckily I found this just because I wanted to see Dean and it's a pretty good sum-up according to what I've read here.
Craig H Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 So...it's pretty clear that Ambrose frequents this board, right? 1
Playa Shunna Ver 3.0 Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I need that video summary of every Raw.
SirSmUgly Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Dean Ambrose doesn't seem right. Like, legitimately. Like, Piranesi's "Dean Ambrose, Feral Animal" stories seem to have at least a partial basis in truth. He's kinda like Randy Savage or Brian Pillman in that way, where something seems off about the dude in reality and you're not sure if he's actually playing a part. 1
Curt McGirt Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 The "I almost lost a finger" and "are there any posters of me around here that I can look at" comments had me rolling 2
Cobra Commander Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Ryback should keep wearing those shades and jacket on TV
piranesi Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I think someone already pointed this out upthread, but we should be very aware of the sequence of events Dean laid out, particularly (filling in the important links in brackets): - caught a ride [with a guy driving a truck full of hay] - rode two bales of hay [on that same truck until] - I got into an altercation with [that same] man at a gas station [in which] -I nearly lost a finger [but] let's not get into that [suffice to say] I picked up some hiking boots. Guys, Dean killed a rancher for his boots, right? That happened sometime on Monday morning/afternoon. 4
Ryback Hates Bullies Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 So...it's pretty clear that Ambrose frequents this board, right? One doesn't want to assume, but I figure quite a lot of them check out the board at this point. We knew about Punk. I think it's a safe bet that Batista knows about Fashion Watch as well. 1
piranesi Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I think it's a safe bet that Batista knows about Fashion Watch as well. HE DOES NOT! Guys, have I mentioned that the Marvel Guardians Of The Galaxy Platinum Series Drax Figure 6" Action Figure is on sale right now at your local Walmart! Valentine's day, is just around the corner.
Cobra Commander Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Guys, Dean killed a rancher for his boots, right? That happened sometime on Monday morning/afternoon. might not be a rancher. It could be a ice-fisherman from Quebec who was traveling to NYC to attempt ice-fishing the East River. 1
