NXT 2015 THREAD

RIPPA

Recommended Posts

That Sliced Bread #2 was about 10% Eva Marie and 90% Cassie getting her up and over.

Think I'm looking forward to Breeze/Liger more than anything else on Takeover.

The most over heel on the show was the mere concept of Brooklyn.

LMAO! Eva was dangerously close to getting an unintentional Tsuruta-esque backdrop suplex!

"This is okay!"

Eva's dump-stat is charisma. She kinda wrestles like an old wrestling game engine (bad collision detection and all); she's got the moves down but the transitions... they're like someone who never played thumb-sticks trying to maneuver the character around. All that said, she's got a fantastic look and only needs to be part of a faction she can hide behind as she learns.

Dana might just be the dark horse of the new batch of ladies. Her charisma is ridiculous ahead of the rest.

Carbon defeated a Saiyan in under 10 seconds. (Cutoff t-shirt works on him too.)

Joe's new music is very pulpy, digging it.

Eva looks like a porn star and a bag of cinnamon bears got left on the same hot dashboard. I'm willing to see where she ends up. Mind you, I said that with Dana and I still detest that creature.

Evil Emma is fantastic and it was nice to see Bayley back. Her post match promo was a bit awkward.

Tyler Breeze just appearing in people's offices is a thing. I don't hate it.

Corbin has to lose soon.

Finally, Joe got some music.

Does Regal have one more in him? PLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASEPLEASE?

Enzo and Big Cass will get the pop of the night. Calling it.

It'll be a close race, but I've got Bayley as the most over face of the night at Takeover. I hope Gable gets a big reaction. Just thinking about the wrestlers who are going to get big pops makes me realize that a big reason why NXT is more fun to watch than the main roster is that the fans actually give a fuck about the baby faces in NXT.

The brand is doing well, they're out on tour, some of the roster is getting action figures, some will be in the game. With all that going for them, will the powers that be ever give those belts the overhaul they so desperately need? I know it's nitpicking but man those things scream "indytastic".

Considering half the stars of NXT were from the indies, maybe they just wanted them to have something familiar.

I think Enzo and Cass will be the most over faces if only because somewhat of a homecoming for the Realest Guys in the Room (How you doin?)

Seriously, dude? Emma's bit didn't get over on the main roster but it seriously worked on NXT.

And there's a specific reason it worked on NXT rather than on Raw. In NXT, it was built to organically. Raw made no attempt to build or reset. They brought her up as-is. They never explained the dancing or marching. They never explained her entering the ring, when that's what got the crowd behind her (her inability to skin the cat, but dammit she kept trying!).

They didn't bother with it since everyone watching Raw also subscribes to the WWE Network (just $9.99). That's what we've been told and I have no reason to doubt them.

Can't that look be replaced by the red hair that got dumped from Tough Enough for a bad heart?  Provided that, you know, she can actually get cleared.  She can't be much worse.  Can she?

I'm fine with that too but at the moment, Eva seems to be someone's pet project so you work with what you got.

Well, naturally. But that's the eternal problem they'll have with NXT/WWE transitions. Emma worked in NXT because we saw her develop into the aloof weirdo with no self-awareness. She's your friend you always say "Oh, that's just Emma" when she says something ridiculous. In order for it to work in WWE, you'd have to bring her up from scratch and redo the story (with a way less forgiving audience, especially towards women) or hope the as-realized product sticks and you can go forward.

Emma's really the only NXT transition that hasn't worked. They could have used Summer Rae a lot better, since she's gold (and proving so in the Rusev angle right now). But other than that, they've managed to have finished NXT versions get called up and work to various levels of success.

JULY 17, 2013 -- PAIGE VS. EMMA, WWE NXT WOMAN'S TITLE

This is the finals of the tournament. This match is really friggin' good, even by the standards of what we're used to seeing from The Four Horsewomen. It starts off really well, with Paige and Emma trading roll-ups and backslide attempts. The transition begins in this really smart way, with Emma reversing a pin attempt somehow into her Tarantula. She has to break, and Paige uses that few seconds to regroup before hitting a stomach kick to send Emma to the floor/commercial break.

The match is then into a new level, with both women hitting a bunch of their signature moves. Emma survives Paige's Lion Tamer-type thing (which has gained many tap-outs) and Emma hits the Emma-mite sandwich. There's one really big highspot (on the WWE Women's sliding scale), which is a superplex Emma hits on Paige. They really built to this spot incredibly well. It felt like a HUGE thing. I don't even know if any WWE women ever hit a superplex before then. I'm sure they have, but that they built to this and made it a huge spot really made it something terrific. Emma makes the slow crawl to Paige, who holds on by getting her foot on the bottom rope at 2.999. Paige then hits the PaigeTurner sorta right after for the win. The end didn't work so well for me -- the move is too elaborate for an "out of nowhere" type win and also not that great to start with, either.

But aside from that, this was a really good match. You can definitely see the template in here of what's coming up very shortly. I think, now, Paige and Emma would have an even better match since they'd be given more time -- this was like 12-minutes. A rematch between them in The New Normal would have a lot more complex reversals and the like in the beginning, a lot of early limb work, failed submission attempts and other attempts at trapping the opponent into the pinfall, all while building to the Superplex. Then after that, we'd have another few minutes of signature spots, near falls, submissions, escapes and callbacks to earlier in the match (and even weeks before) before it ends however it would end.

But this was a truly good wrestling match. Paige, Emma and Summer Rae really need to get a major tip of the cap. If their first crop of women's wrestlers weren't this good, who knows if Sasha/Charlotte/Bayley/Becky Lynch would have gotten the ball.

Pulpy as in the band Pulp? I was always surprised ECW or somebody else didn't use 'This is Hardcore' somewhere.

I like Dana too and am not anti-Eva Marie. I kinda wish they were a bit further along so they could come in with Emma and be the read heel Divas on RAW (Team BAD are too good, Bellas don't really want to play consistent heels for whatever reason). If they can improve quickly enough though, I think that spot is there.

I don't think it's that the Bellas don't want to, it's that they can't. Maybe I'm wrong here, but I feel like when they were heels, they really never showed a grasp on how to appear to be running down the women they were feuding with while actually building them up and selling the feud. AJ had that problem too, to be fair.

Bo didn't really work that well either, for much the same reason, but in reverse.

Bo Dallas might be my favorite wrestler, especially after this week's spectacular rap entrance on Main Event.

I think he is pretty perfect. He's a comedy heel and there is nothing wrong with being an entertaining guy to rule up the crowd and put other people over. That is the most efficient way to use him.
