Zimbra
Someone has, inevitably, made an NBA version of Wordle where you try to guess the current player and it's pretty good: https://poeltl.dunk.town/
Brian Fowler
It's only one game, and the T-Wolves aren't exactly a defensive juggernaut, but the Harden/Embiid duo got off to a pretty damn good start. Joel dropped a 34 and 10 while Harden went for 27-8-12 on just 12 shots and finished +35. They won 133-

RandomAct
Not gonna lie, I went to bed early on the Mavs-Warriors game, because the vibes weren't great, and national TV games take forever. Was stunned to wake up and see the result, though I shouldn't be at this point. We Mavs fans have some severe PTSD from everything post-title win, that we are having a hard time wrapping our head around the team actually being good. The Dinwiddie/Bertans trade is actually looking fantastic.

I was watching this game live while recording the podcast and I forced us to stop for the dunk and then the buzzer beater. We are watching a 1% of 1% athlete who also has a basketball IQ in the Mensa category figure out both of those things at once. Like... this is not real life. He’s 22 and in his third year and went to a mid-major. Ja is the generational talent.

RIPPA
The New York Liberty were fined $500K because their owners arranged chartered flights for the team which is actually against the CBA Quote Chartering typically isn't allowed in the WNBA out of fear it would create a competitive advantage for teams whose owners can afford bankrolling such costly arrangements. Engelbert told media as recently as last month that, while she supports the idea of teams chartering, the league needs to experience more financial growth to be able to cover those expenses. ------- Commercial travel for WNBA teams -- stipulated by the league's collective bargaining agreement with the players' union -- has been a major flash point for the league in recent years, as players have drawn attention to cramped, uncomfortable seating on flights and travel snafus that have even led to games being canceled. Engelbert refers to Cathy Engelbert who is the WNBA commissioner The most outrageous part of all this is was what was recommended as punishment by the general counsel Quote Sports Illustrated also reported that the league's general counsel suggested a plethora of severe punishments for the Liberty, including "losing 'every draft pick you have ever seen' to suspending ownership, even 'grounds for termination of the franchise.'" According to SI, Engelbert said on a Board of Governors call that she "cut a deal with Joe" to reduce the fine from $1 million to $500,000.
RIPPA
In something we haven't said in a while - Devin Booker has entered the protocols. He is the first player to enter the protocols since the All Star Break In fact - the last player in the protocols (Wizards' Daniel Gafford) left the protocols on Feb
hammerva
No idea where WNBA goes but this is pretty bad news. Apparently this was an issue in February that just conveniently now is a huge problem . Which unfortunately tells you how fucking little we care about women's sports that someone has been stuck in Russia for almost a month and we now heard about this Edited March 5, 2022 by hammerva

Brian Fowler
Lebron became just the fourth player in NBA history to have a fifty point game at 37 or older, joining MJ, Kobe, and *checks notes* Jamal Crawford? A definite "one of these things ain't like the others" list. Edited March 6, 2022 by Brian Fowler
ohtani's jacket
Jamal Crawford had as many 50 point games in the NBA as Bob McAdoo, Larry Bird, Moses Malone, Tracy McGrady, Carmelo Anthony, Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, George Mikan, Tiny Archibald, and Karl Malone. Good enough for 22nd all-time. He also scored 50 points for four different franchises. He's actually 57st all-time in scoring with just under 20k points. But he was never an All-Star. Yeah, he was an excellent scorer (and a Wolverine so I automatically am a fan) but still... He is not the name you expect as the fourth in a group return arguably the top two players of all-time and another guy who is a top 15, some would say top ten, player. It was so ridiculous that Dirk even had to say something about it in his retirement speech.

He's gotta be right at the top of the list of "lower per-game average in a season where you score 50 in a game", right? That one game raised his season scoring average by 0.65 points - all the way up to 7.9 per game.
