S.K.o.S.
UPDATE 12 OF 21 - through July 24 Thursday's box office numbers are trickling in. I don't have the updated number for Transformers 4 yet, but it's #1 on the box office list regardless, so I'll just throw this up here and fix the Transformers number later today. Chaos
To be fair, Superman Returns was much better received by critics than audiences. I did not dislike Superman Returns to the degree that others did either. I thought the issues with that movie really had more to do with it pulling from the existing movie franchise. I have always disliked how those films have portrayed Lex Luthor.
Brian Fowler
I actually really really loved Returns, but I understand what people hated about it. "Art-House Superman movie where he doesn't throw a single punch and it's mostly about his complex relationship with his ex" isn't exactly an easy sell. The plane sequence is one of the cooler visual sequences in film of all time. I used to have the poster for that film hang in my room back in my Movie Gallery Days, and it was from that sequence. Death From Above
Not that, hovering solidly in mediocrity, my tiebreaker will matter much. But man I did not see The Purge: Anarchy making this much money at all. I think I had $47 million for the 28 days, it will beat that in 10 days. Niners Fan in CT
To be fair, Superman Returns was much better received by critics than audiences. It's the opposite for Man of Steel. Weird. I don't think I'm going to let anything cloud my judgment on whether to see Guardians or not. It looks plenty good enough to spend my $12 on and shit, what else is even left this summer? Ninja Turtles? Ehh.. nah. Expendables? probably a Netflix watch. Sin City? I'm not sold on that either..
Niners Fan in CT
So nobody is beating me in a tiebreaker right? At least I have that going for me :/

ivpvideos
My box office is actually pretty decent but Rotten Tomatoes is killing me. Maleficent as the number one slot on my RT list? WHAT THE HELL WAS I THINKING.
Ligerbusa
I wonder what effect Expendables 3 leaking will have on it's box office? It comes out in three weeks.
Niners Fan in CT
I think it's a movie where you were either really excited to go see it or not. If they had some semblance of a plot I'd like the series a lot more. The "comedy" is Transformers bad. Someone says something REALLY fucking stupid and then Sly and co. sit around laughing like maniacs. Terrible.
Ligerbusa
Really? I thought the comedy was pretty good in the second one. I remember Dolph Lundgren having some good lines.
Death From Above
Scarlett Johansson Has A Gun has opened stronger than most probably expected. Looks like moving the release date back a couple weeks has paid off well for them.
jaedmc
So nobody is beating me in a tiebreaker right? At least I have that going for me :/ What, you mean do you have the best tiebreaker guess OR Yay, you're beating the other two guys with 34 points? Brian Fowler
Definitely a good move bumping Lucy up. Jumping from a loaded august to a relatively empty late July is smart. Reminds me or Ted a couple years ago.

WHAT THE HELL WAS I THINKING. Don't feel bad, I put at number 1 also. Those first couple trailers made it look so amazing.

RIPPA
So Lucy made $17 million on Friday will make at least $43 million for the weekend and could make up to $47 million (and will be #1 at the box office) Thank God it doesn't have any of those dirty women in the leading role... oh wait... RIPPA
Guardians got its first rotten review - from the guy from the AP who was complaining that there was too much going on
Death From Above
It's an ensemble action film, he had to see it to come up with that critique? I'm not sure what to make of it from trailers. I mean, the look is almost retro, very heavy on physical costumes. I actually like that since it does stand out. I'm not sure I've seen much in the way of content beyond that though. Even after a few commercials it's still a halfway mystery film to me.
S.K.o.S.
FYI Dawn of the Planet of the Apes' box office is another one that's following the same pattern as Spider-Man 2 and Godzilla. At the 16-day mark these three movies had made: Godzilla = $171.0 mill ASM2 = $167.3 mill Apes = $167.1 mill But we're currently at the 19-day mark for Apes, and it's now pulled ahead of where those other two movies were at that point. Apes = $177.1 mill Godzilla = $177.0 mill ASM2 = $175.0 mill
NikoBaltimore
I'm at this weird point with Guardians. I'm very excited to see it, yet have no idea why. I never knew them from anything Marvel-related, and don't know much if anything about the story. Yet there's something about it that draws me in. Part of it is the cast, part of it is Rocket Raccon paired with Groot. Hell, part of it is just because it's wacky enough to amuse me. Either way, I'm sure I'm going to enjoy it. Chaos
Guardians is down to 89% on RT. I have a feeling as the rest of the Thursday Reviews trickle in that it will probably fall somewhere in the mid-80s, so maybe placement on my list wasn't too bad after all. Control
I left GUARDIANS off of my box office list. Pretty happy with that decision. Probably put it too low on my RT list, though.
