It always sucks. I would rather Takeshita come out and blast both dudes when they were asking to run it back than have the match restart and end like it did. It's also time to belt up Takeshita. And the opener was probably one reason why the main event felt a little flat. It wasn’t the same, but the way each were booked felt similar enough to the point where it was just a bad bookend. It doesn’t help that Danielson is at the point where he just can’t go. He’d be better off doing what he said he was going to do years ago and wrestle like Nagata or MiSu or ZSJ but he’s fully going out on his shield to the point where either Mox vs Danielson is going to be a Vader like squash or it will be like Vader vs Flair and Danielson sneaks out with a victory and then I guess drops the title to Darby. I suspect that's part of the reason for this- temporarily protect Richochet so they can get to the triple threat, then protect Ospreay by having Take beat Ricochet, who really is JAG at this point in his career. Bryan can be his Grima Wirmtongue.
AxB Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 Did not expect the Rampage opener (Private Party & Shibata vs Young Bucks & Perry) to go 15+ minutes, I'm so used to Rampage matches being 8-10 minuters, but the Bucks don't like your short matches. Kris Statlander's promo, it's indicating that the Stokely partnership is dissolved and she's doing a Born Again Kristen gimmick now. And they're building to a match with Kamille, which seems a little odd. Like isn't Kamille supposed to be a roadblock on the way to Mercedes, rather than a destination in herself? Although if that's the case, aren't Mercedes and Kris both heels? Heels usually don't get shots at heel champions. I mean, they should. All champions should be tweeners in any case. Perhaps the Statlander promo was Kris' face turn, who knows? Harley Cameron has this habit of wearing wrestling attire that is lingerie-adjacent. Now she did a forced motorboating on Aminata as an offensive move, and commentary sold it as her taking a page out of the Iron Savages' book. But with all of the straps and buckles and chains on her, they could have sold it as a "face raked over steel" move if they'd wanted. Deeb attacked Aminata after the match and Britt Baker made the save, eventually. Hopefully this is a subtle way of leading to a Britt heel turn, because she's not really a great babyface outside of Pittsburgh. And they were in Pittsburgh, so... if you take the new Purazzo /Valkyrie stable and add Britt (and even Serena Deeb too) to it, that's a kayfabe strong unit, and putting them in trios and 8 woman tags might be a good way to make their matches a bit more dynamic. In the main event, as we returned from the final PiP, there was this tracking shot going down an orange corridor and through the crowd to ringside, that was really good. The big fan reactions Big Bill was getting in the UK seem to have dissipated, but that's OK because Bryan Keith being the breakout star from the Learning Tree would be better anyway. 4
HarryArchieGus Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 I love seeing AEW add that Overhead shot to the camera selections this week. Said camera needed to be color corrected, but regardless it's a great additional view, and a nice prospect that they're putting some of this WBD money where its most needed. 1 1
AxB Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 Oh, and for anyone wondering about previous Ospreay vs Ricochet matches from before Ricochet signed to the Fed, I posted half a dozen of them in the "Wrestling on the Internet not from the Now" thread on Wednesday morning. The first one they had got a lot of buzz in a lot of places, and neither guy was signed, so it became an indie touring match of sorts for a while there. 3 1

AxB Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 That one was in the NJPW BosJ. You won't be finding that one anywhere but NJPW World, most likely. Possibly Billibilli or Rutube, but even then it's unlikely. https://www.cagematch.net/?id=111&nr=8872&page=2 Is a list of most of them. But then, are you really a wrestling fan, if you haven't watched (or attended) at least several shows that aren't on Cagematch? 2 1
Shartnado Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 Ok, so Dynamite opener wasn't a life changing experience I hoped it was going to be, but there was plenty of eye-popping stuff. Juice was showing the kind of fire I've rarely seen from him, despite him acting all unhinged 92% of the time. Hangman was his usual awesome self. Jay White returning adds a new dimension to this whole story. Main event was strong as expected, but I couldn't stay awake all the way through. As other people have already said, Okada and Bucks should be pissed off at BCC, but watch them act like nothing happened because they probably want nothing to do with Moxley's crew. 5

To be honest, that seems to me to be perfectly in character for the Bucks. A brief bit next week establishing that Okada wants to go after the BCC but the Bucks veto it would be both welcome and unsurprising. 2

That's exactly what the EVP's are likely to do, even though Moxley is now kinda stepping on their turf with this takeover stuff. They will find a reason why they can let this one slide, even if Okada feels differently. 1
Zakk_Sabbath Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 It's funny timing that some of us were having a convo about possible Private Party regression earlier in the week, cause I thought they both looked awesome last night (and like @AxB I was very pleasantly surprised by how long they went). Good stuff. Also: I am highly, highly intrigued with this Deonna/Taya pairing. I know, difficult to believe that the guy with the Goodfellas avatar would mark out at hearing "This thing of ours..." over and over lol. But I love the way this was shot, same for her prior solo promos in this style - idk if it's intentional or not, but the lighting and/or filter used makes it feel like there's a little LU in the DNA, which is always welcomed. @HarryArchieGusYou sir or madam win the damn day with that post, because at Grand Slam last week, I wasn't looking at the KhanTron much until two guys behind me were like "Why do (someone's red) pants look pink on the screen?" and it drove me insane the rest of the night!! White balance, please!!!! Love, a former video production major who got yelled at for this in 2007 by his ESPN-day-job-having professor, and was scarred for life. 2
HarryArchieGus Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 Saturday Morning Superstars of Rampage! Bucks/Perry v Shibata/Party was pretty strong. The heelside were poetry in motion. Color me curious what Jack v Shibata might look like. I like the Jacksons determination to make the Privates players, but this is a hard sell. Throwing Stoke into the mix is interesting. The Stat promo indicates a babyface turn, and that is greatly disappointing. Born Again Kristin is a pretty awesome nickname tho. I liked the new finisher for Kamille. I did not like how the Anna Jay promo went a lil shoot-y with terms, but I loved the flow of an all Women's Division show between the quarter hours. The Queen v Harley match was a lot more fun than the ice cold Pittsburgh crowd would have the home viewer believe. I thought both worked hard and told a nice little story. More hilarity from Harley's promo pre-match. The OC/OR v Bill/Keith bout was house show silly to begin, but rebounded in the latter half. Trying to recall the match, all I got is the Big Bill bossman slam. Jericho was good on commentary. I liked the middle portion Women's Division focus. Fair Rampage. 3
Technico Support Posted October 6, 2024 Posted October 6, 2024 Loooool Triller got their feeds flip flopped and here I am, three beers in, trying frantically to switch from the English feed, which is in Spanish, to the Spanish feed, which is in English. 1 1
Technico Support Posted October 6, 2024 Posted October 6, 2024 Damn, I used to think FTR’s “we’re old school rasslers” thing was just a gimmick but god damn, there’s nothing more old school real life wrestling business than leaching off an act that’s more over than you. FTR joining the Learning Tree, with them and Jericho both confidently assuming they’re pulling one over on the other, would be a fun story. 1
Curt McGirt Posted October 6, 2024 Posted October 6, 2024 COLLISION - Johnny Morrison had probably a career-topping match tonight. The chain wrestling at the start was off the charts, the heel work (thumb to the eyes!) was pristine, the spots were great (the spinning Razor's Edge was to die for). It was just fantastic for what he had to do to help get Darby be where he had to. Congrats. Brody, of course, is the best choice of opponent too, because... well, you've seen them face each other. - The Outrunners video -- especially the "dyeing the mustache" moment where it looked like they were shovelling coke into Dax's nose -- cracked me up, and I finally paid attention to a match of theirs. If FTR is a Midnights cosplay then Outrunners are a Rock'n'Rolls cosplay, and it looks great. It'll look even better if they finally pull the trigger on FTR going heel and face them against each other. BTW, Nigel's one-liners rarely hit, but you could tell Tony was hitting the mute button after the condom remark. - Trish Adora supposedly being "the Afro-Punk" while also being ex-military and especially former police... yeah, no. Speaking of which, the T**** Billy Bass and Chik-Fil-A commercials saying "no customer paid for this testimonial" ("testimonial"? For an opinion about a fucking chicken sandwich?! If I was seemingly pious like that I'd call sacrilege) are just nuts. But we should leave that to the Discord. My sociopolitical opinions have no bearing on Trish's talent as a wrestler anyway, and anyone who's gonna eat the Dangerous Queen Bomb like that is in my cool book. - The Tony Nese Team and the Orange Cassidy Team match was just plain 'ol fun. Sometimes something doesn't require analysis. Meantime, I really hope Archer replaces Takeshita. And that Takeshita stabs Callis in the head again with his screwdriver, heh heh. - ...and the four-way highspot fest was about the same. I don't know how Hologram or Komander do what they do. I'm passing on the main, so there you go. 4

Edited October 6, 2024 by Zakk_Sabbath ETA: I also forgot to say the important part, which is that between the Okada thing, and the Mox/Perry interaction a few weeks ago in Gorilla, I would probably bet on it being acknowledged 2

FTR kind of need to be heels, in my opinion. As heels they had a clear gimmick: they were a couple of conniving bastards who knew every sneaky little trick to take advantage of the tag rules, and regularly came up with new ones. They were clearly inspired by old teams like the Midnights or Tully and Arn and made no effort to hide it, but there was more to the act than just copying old team's moves. As faces, I'm not sure what they're supposed to be, other than the somewhat vague description of being "a great tag team". 8 hours ago, Curt McGirt said: - The Tony Nese Team and the Orange Cassidy Team match was just plain 'ol fun. JLowe Posted October 6, 2024 Posted October 6, 2024 I’m late to talk about Rampage. It was pretty good. I still think Private Party as a concept is washed because Quen is gonna break his neck botching the Gin and Juice one of these days. It also helps that Bucks are same height or shorter, making the jumps lower. I liked the touch of Shibata just targeting Perry every time he had a chance, and him hiding behind the Bucks. Kamille killed that poor enhancement woman. Stat is I guess turning face. Angle had hit a dead end, and I guess I appreciate they tried to tie it up. Targeting Kamille should be a good hoss fight. Harley is really showing a lot of personality on the promos and in the ring. I think she was still around towards the end of Dark/Elevation, I think maybe even did one or two matches there. She would benefit from regular ring work, as she’s getting better but still hesitates and moves slow. Still, this might have been her best match. Nice to see Baker save Aminata, I guess I was overthinking the Dynamite deal. Main was good, how could it not be? 3

EVA Posted October 6, 2024 Posted October 6, 2024 Man, I hope now that the TV deal is done TK will refocus on tightening up his creative. Getting the Stat/Stoke act over, building her up as a major heel, giving her a win over your biggest female face…and then immediately dropping all that because you realized you don’t have enough quality face challengers for your TWO female heel champions just shows complete lack of foresight as far as where your booking it going. 3 1
colonial Posted October 6, 2024 Posted October 6, 2024 AEW doesn't seem to know how to do face turns with some of their talent ... -- Stat turns face again because ... her mid-life crisis is over? -- Skye Blue turned face before her injury because ... she bought a really nice cowboy hat? -- Anna Jay appears to have turned face because ... she visited Japan and had a good time? -- Bang Bang Gang turned face because ... honestly, I have no clue why. Sometimes, it's better not to think. And to be honest, heel vs. heel matchups are OK at times given the context. 2 1

This might be controversial, but I enjoy FTR, and don't mean it as a knock necessarily: their babyface act is kinda the same wink-and-nudge gimmick as the Young Bucks, just aimed at viewers with a different taste in style or era. Zimbra Posted October 6, 2024 Posted October 6, 2024 Can't believe I have to be the one to say Hell Yeah to the Emi Sakura Make The Champ Look Great tour coming back to the states. Also Hell Yeah Brody King Yuta rules and I will cry manly tears when he turns on Danielson. Claudio is doing menacing really well in this angle. Outrunners are more sizzle than steak but I'll enjoy the gimmick until they run it into the ground. The four-way was fun and reminded me of Nitro undercard matches of yore. The three-way wasn't as much fun. Malakai is either hurt or phoning it in or both. Private Party could have used a little more seasoning back in the ring before they got a push. 4
Curt McGirt Posted October 6, 2024 Posted October 6, 2024 EMI~! I forgot all about her. That's gonna be great, even if it is Sasha opposite. 1
