So, this week in 2019, this little upstart company decided to jump into the deep end of the pool and put on a weekly TV show. 5 years later, we have Dynamite as a Wednesday institution. I know you get me, so I let my walls come down, down. Before you met me, I was alright, but things were kinda heavy... Five long years... seen people come and go. Seen lots of stars get to shine bright, and others... got to wrestle Chris Jericho. You brought me to life, now every February... You'll be my Valentine, Valentine! So, with it being the 5th anniversary of Dynamite, we get a pretty big main event (with some pretty dumb stipulations!) You make me, feel like I'm livin' a teenage dream! Shartnado Posted October 2 Posted October 2 While Ricochet will have to become at least his NXT-level self again for this to live up to the lofty expectations (I haven't seen their earlier matches, btw) the match against Will Ospreay is indeed pretty much why I still bother to watch wrestling almost daily (and weekly, at the very least) at 47 years old. PAC, Buddy Matthews, Ricochet, Ospreay, Mortos and Vikingo (or Fletcher, if you can't get Vikingo some more) as the Dynamite 6 (or Collision 6) would have me on the edge of my seat each week. We've had some of those matches and if that was the line-up of one of the brackets in Continental Classic, I'd lose my shit, in a very positive way! 6
Gordi the recovering AEW f Posted October 2 Posted October 2 (edited) My actual birthday is not until October 7th, but Dragon/Rainmaker Bruv/Ricochet DMD/Deeb and Hangman/Juice sure feels like the best present I'm likely to get this year. Unless maybe one of my daughters or one of my students gets me my favourite pickled plum flavoured gummy candies (Otoko Ume). Then Dynamite will maybe be #2. And... AEW don't even realise they are giving it to me! Either way, best present or second-best present, I'm gonna go WAY out on a limb and predict we get some good pro wrestling tomorrow. Claudio has new entrance music! His old theme was based on Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture and the new one mixes in Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata. Which makes it more minor key and dark. Which is suitable for his new character, which is "Swiss muscleman who approves of murdering your friends with plastic bags." The Natural Posted October 2 Posted October 2 (edited) Looking forward to Bryan Danielson vs. Kazuchika Okada III. I think it'll open the show. The first match at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2023 though great was marred by Bryan Danielson breaking his arm. Nobody expected Danielson to tap out Okada, only the second time he's ever submitted as the Rainmaker going 27:40. Gave it ****3/4. The NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 18 2024 match was better, won by Okada. I thought it would go longer than 23:30. Gave it *****. It's a MOTYC, it's also an underrated one. Don't see people talking it up as much. Like film trilogies, the third tends to be the worst entry. Hoping this won't be. Wouldn't be surprised if it goes 40 plus minutes or even an hour long draw. Edited October 2 by The Natural 3

The Brodie Lee Memorial show is the best episode of Dynamite ever. But what’s the SECOND best episode ever? To me it’s either the Parking Lot Brawl or the episode that ends with Kenny winning the title and threatening to take it to TNA. 6

The Brodie Lee Memorial is by far #1. #2 I'd say Grand Slam Dynamite 2021 with the Bryan Danielson vs. Kenny Omega ***** dream match. The episode with Kenny Omega winning the AEW World Championship and saying he'll be going on Impact was the same show Sting debuted on, AEW Winter is Coming Dynamite 2020. But playing with the speed on Youtube if you have it at .25 speed it sounds like I discovered some ancient alien artifact after walking into a cult doing a chant. But if you have it 2x speed it's a minor miracle my head didn't fly off into space. Yeah, I had a bit too much time on my hands. As for 5 years of Dynamite I still remember the first one like yesterday. I talked about it a few times over the years but walking into Capital One Arena for the first show was just so darn surreal. I know they've had (and have) all kinds of issues but fucking hell I love AEW and am thankful for shows like Dynamite. I can't wait for tonight's episode. 5 1

For Great Justice Posted October 2 Posted October 2 I’m sure it’s that his time story-wise just hasn’t come yet, but it’s interesting to see how Okada’s AEW run so far isn’t a main event superstar run in and of itself, but rather more of an epilogue to his already-legendary career. It’s entertaining as hell, but it’s a side quest. Its sort of like when Hurley and Ben ruled the Island for presumably thousands of years after the events of Lost took place. 1 1

It treats the gimmick of Okada’s belt with respect, makes for an interesting match layout where Danielson has reason to be aggressive during the first 20 minutes, allows Okada to get a bit of a moral win as a heel by surviving that even if he loses later, and sends a signal to the audience that it’s going to go long and will be substantial. Danielson’s belt is on the line for the whole match, Okada’s just for the first 20. Edited October 2 by Matt D 3 2

To me, that’s just a special presentation. It feels weird to even rank it. That’s just how I feel, though. Grand Slam 2021 is great, but let’s be honest - without looking at the Wiki page, how many people can name another match from this show besides Danielson/Omega? No one? A few, maybe? A 30 minute time limit draw doesn’t make a 2 hour show the greatest, IMO. For my money - it’s gotta be the first episode. Edited October 2 by Casey 3

You're probably right in the grand (lol) scheme of things, but personally speaking I've got to respectfully disagree. You've got not only the tag Niko mentioned (which is maybe Sting's best AEW match) but a sadly forgotten Malekai Black/Cody bout which I thought was fantastic, and a really, really good Punk/Hobbs match from Rampage where they were aping a ton of spots from Bret/Diesel.
