piranesi Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 https://variety.com/2019/film/news/dick-miller-dead-dies-gremlins-terminator-1203124265/ 182 acting credits on IMDB. Not near the most by a long shot but I'd wager one of the highest percentages of amazing and recognizable roles ever. You know him and love him whether you know it or not. He was so great in A BUCKET OF BLOOD Obviously his name and face go hand-in-hand with Roger Corman, but there are also the super famous roles in GREMLINS, TERMINATOR, EXPLORERS, NIGHT OF THE CREEPS, THE 'BURBS, CHOPPING MALL, AFTER HOURS, THE HOWLING, and on and on and on. If a genie came to me and said I could either have Tom Cruise's career or Dick Miller's career I would go Dick all the way. 7 2 2
TheVileOne Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 Definition of what I would call a good character actor. 3
Curt McGirt Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 Go figure -- The Terror was on TCM when I woke up this morning, and his was one of the first faces I saw. RIP.
HumanChessgame Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 I had no idea he was still alive. RIP Mr. Putterman.
Pete Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 Always dug Miller. He had real no-nonsense acting chops to match his name and you always got a solid working man's performance out of whatever he did. Even in those early Corman flicks like Gunslinger and It Conquered the World, he was really good in a way that trumped the material he had to work with. RIP.
Craig H Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 Holy shit, he was still alive? Definitely one of those actors I figured had already died when seeing them on the screen. RIP.
Curt McGirt Posted January 31, 2019 Posted January 31, 2019 He actually had a documentary made about his career back in 2014 that I'm disappointed to have not seen yet 2
J.T. Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 I always hoped that there would be a sequel to Explorers so that the boys could've taken Charlie Drake along with them on their next voyage in the Thunder Road II. He also played the poor pawn shop owner that the T-100 blows away in The Terminator. RIP, Dick Miller.
jaedmc Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 I mentioned this in the movie thread but apparently in 2018 Dick Miller was my most watched actor according to letterboxd. His career would be the dream. In enough movies to make a living, memorable enough that people like it when you show up, but not famous enough that you can't go outside without cameras everywhere. 2019 might be another Dick Miller year for me now.
Curt McGirt Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 Shit, piranesi said he was in The Terminator and it didn't even register in my mind what role it was until seeing that screencap. "Hey, just what you see, pal."
odessasteps Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 I’d forgotten he was in Little Shop of Horrors. And being cut out of Plup Fiction. 1
Curt McGirt Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 I really don't think it would have hurt leaving that in. Rogerebert.com put up this really great obit, including a 30+ minute video interview with Dick which looks like something that needs to be watched: https://www.rogerebert.com/balder-and-dash/dick-miller-1930-2019
Web Conn Posted February 2, 2019 Posted February 2, 2019 Fuck he passed? I've seen his documentary it's really good. I remember him as the delivery man in Small Soldiers
