The story's called The Quiet Boy, and the movie is called Antlers?

Anything to do with...

Never heard of this until a three-minute montage popped up in my feed. Not bad for an Eyetalian made for TV movie. It revolves around a sect. There's some truly bizarre stuff in here that I'd expect to find in an Indonesian horror film. There's also a kill very reminiscent of Suspiria.

Y'all are talking about forgetting what was in Spectre in the Bond thread, I realized today I didn't remember a single goddamn thing about Alien: Covenant while I was going down a little reading rabbit hole today. Went back to the reviews on Roger Ebert and they LOVED it, which reminded me of the only thing I could: that I hated it. So does anybody else remember their thoughts on it?

Nope.  That movie is actually based on the short film, Henley, directed by Craig Macneill.  The short film is based on the chapter "The Henley Road Motel" from author Clay McLeod Chapman’s novel "Miss Corpus."

Chapman and Macneill are friends and IIRC Chapman has a producer credit for the horror short.

Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down) said he is directing a reboot of Resident Evil

Claims it will be "super scary" and will be getting "back to the roots of the game"

I don't need him to do a reboot.   Some of the CGI RE animated joints are actually pretty decent and are very much in the spirit of the game.

Aside from the weird crew setup of couples and a couple questionable decisions, Covenant was good.  Katherine Waterson did a better job of Noomi in being the Ripley stand in,  McBride was surprisingly good in a serious role.  Fassbender is Fassbender.

I don't mind a reboot if it means sticking to the characters that already exist in the game universe and not shoehorning in a new character who really doesn't fit because she's the director's wife. Personally I'd like to see a movie version of RE2.

Hopefully the acting will be of the same standard as the original, non-remastered version of the RE1 game.

Honestly the problem they have is that the Anderson films ARE in the spirit of the Resident Evil games. Sure the characters get remixed and Milla gets tossed into the middle, but the games are buckwild meta plot and crazy visual monsters that turn toward even weirder sci-fi nonsense.

RE 1/2 felt scary at the time because they were pretty tough on resource management and forced you to flee a lot. Gamers weren't used to that so there was genuine tension in playing that. After what? 25 years now? Other games have done that better (including late entry RE7) so the originals may have less scare value.

But even if not, anyone who looks at the plot of the RE franchise and doesn't play them would have to admit Anderson's take is pretty accurate. There's a reason 4-6 leaned heavier into action with survival elements.

Anyway, tl;dr I think a lot of the dissonance comes from the difference between playing as the lead in RE and watching a film with the same nonsense in play.

Went and watched the Honest Trailer for Alien: Covenant last night and remembered every single thing I hated about that movie. Which is pretty much all of it. Now I seriously want to know what the Roger Ebert reviewer was on when he did his TWO seperate reviews of it (the first one getting the full four stars and the second one saying that people in the future will be coming back and raving about this movie... suuuuuuuure buddy).

Both look evil, but one makes it a little less obvious he intends to kill you in the worse ways possible.

watched The Clovehitch Killer which was a very solid movie. I didn't really care about seeing it because Dylan McDermmott isn't the kind of actor that I gravitate to, but he does a great job in the movie. The one iffy element is that the movie takes place in Kentucky and no one has an accent. Part of me kinda wishes there was one, because hearing every body sound vanilla took me out of it. But the part of me that grew up in Kentucky thinks it may have made the movie better just because it would have been people doing some shitty "Yoo shore gotta purdy mouth!" bullshit.

Anyway, a good christian boyscout suspects his scout leader father is a serial killer who stopped killing a long time ago after discovering some bondage porno mags in the shed.

Like I said McDermmott does a fun job creating an odd character and there were some moments of peculiar detail I'll probably remember for a long time.

It's on Hulu right now and it's totally worth your time.

And like he's ready to host a children's show with a sidekick named Cookie.

You live in a town named after a Lefty Frizzel song but have never heard of Bozo T Clown? Are you sure you're not Canadian? Bozo is/was an American institution for generations of American children. Chicago's was first/most famous and other cities had their own franchised version of The Bozo Show(including Grand Rapids). May Wagner songs haunt your dreams.

I don't think I've ever paid eight bucks to rent any single film

Neither have I and I plan to keep it that way.

Anthony Michael Hall has been cast as Tommy Doyle in Halloween Kills!

Whenever someone says Tommy in relation to horror movies, I always think of Tommy Jarvis from F13.

Hot damn Overlord is good.

It's actually a better war movie than it is a horror film, which I really didn't expect. In a lot of ways, it reminds me of how From Dusk til Dawn was advertised, giving away what could've been an all-time great twist.

I told you all it was good.  My daughter loves it.

I think it will crack my Black History Month Horror Top 10 List.
