odessasteps Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 I love how the Cowboy outsmarts Slater in that angle. 1

But yeah, there is definitely a "flip switch" that turns on with how he handles himself in the ring once he starts hanging around Buzz, the "eating jobbers alive" aspect of what the Steiners would ultimately become definitely starts up around then. 1
Cobra Commander Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 Speaking of George Wells, you gotta be pretty trusting to do a rana on a WWF job guy in 1985 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OIsuCyXoEg 1
zendragon Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 Adonis, Vince and Molly only people to get their heads shaved at mania
zendragon Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 Adonis in Portland, this is mentioned in the Flowers for Adrian book. I've never seen any Portland so that makes this doubly interesting to me 2
zendragon Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 More Adonis is Portland also fun to take a look at Buddy Rose and The Sheepherders pre-WWF 3
Cobra Commander Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 not sure how many WWF matches are onlne for Edouard Carpentier but he really worked like an old man who ran a martial arts academy in a strip mall. Probably one of those styles that might get old if he was on TV every week but occasional matches from a guy who looked like Benny Hill and would do flips would be fresh https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7v4IJTrOOw8 1
zendragon Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 More Portland footage, interesting to me as Portland is kinda one of those territories that time forgot (aside from MJF'sBetter than Piper in Portland comment) 4
(BP) Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 I saw Buddy Rose for the first time on one of the Shawn DVD sets tagging with Somers against the Rockers, and my first thought was “where have they been hiding this guy?” PWO has some tremendous write-ups about him. This is more of an oddity than anything else, but I love that it exists: Buddy and Hogan in Japan teaming against Fujinami and Yatsu. Hogan later main evented the WWF Wrestledream show with Yatsu, presumably because they were familiar with each other from the early 80s. 2
Curt McGirt Posted September 24, 2023 Posted September 24, 2023 Nope. It was a joint show and Yatsu was Tenryu's #2 in SWS, which is why. I'm sure the familiarity didn't hurt of course. 1

He knew how to come off like a star in a way most guys there didn’t.
zendragon Posted September 25, 2023 Posted September 25, 2023 I certainly see where Buddy Rose rubbed off on HBK From The AWA Jesse Ventura & Adrian Adonis v Jim Brunzell & Greg Gange The High Flyers vs The East West Connection (03/01/1981) - YouTube
Godfrey Posted September 25, 2023 Posted September 25, 2023 Buddy Rose in Portland is one of my favorite acts. He was an incredible heel and his face turn against Oliver's Clan when all the kids rush the ring is an all time moment for me. Not a match but I have to post it 1
Curt McGirt Posted September 25, 2023 Posted September 25, 2023 "The smell of agony" haha Never noticed this before, but Buddy has the same accent as Piper. Fuck, what a turn. 1
