Elsalvajeloco
I'm still confused about how a film which made 796% gross profit is somehow considered to be a huge disappointment. Yeah, it didn't do as well as the first Magic Mike, but 1.most sequels don't surpass the original hit; 2.they were missing one of the stars and the big-name director; and most importantly 3.the original movie was an unexpected hit, it was one of those situations where NOBODY thought it was gonna pull those numbers. Expecting lightning to strike twice is just unrealistic. That's why I said Magic Mike XXL is not the best compass to judge Tatum earlier, especially given Gambit is going to cost $154 million and have whole another demo they're trying to reach. It was an unneeded sequel and didn't have a plot, which is kinda critical for a movie to be successful. It was doomed to not do well and not as well as the first movie. It was a disappointment because it didn't reach that height of the first movie. That's the truth. The thing is Warner Bros didn't just do the movie to do the movie. Or else, they would have put it out in the dumping ground months. You just don't put a movie on Independence day weekend and say that's that. They put it out on Wednesday and then by Friday and Saturday, no one gave a shit. I'm going to go out on a limb and say WB didn't want the sequel to have half of the domestic gross of the original. But again, I am not diametrically opposed to Tatum being Gambit or any major role. I mean this is the same studio that still held on to one of the biggest (if not the biggest) anti-box office actors going today, Ryan "No one saw my movie with Ben Kingsley and the lady from Downton Abbey" Reynolds. I'm just saying that his name alone doesn't guarantee you an automatic commercial success. Fox is trying to change to this narrative that their handling of Marvel content is inept, and all their attempts are desperate money grabs. In this very thread, you were shocked that they had the FF sequel already lined up. So taking that into account, someone who is bankable for Fox IMO is someone who guarantees their movie doesn't flop. I don't think Channing Tatum fits that billing especially knowing that he has two giant, fairly recent big budget flops under his belt. Keep in mind, they don't even have a director right now and the narrative surrounding the movie before that (and presumably still isn't) wasn't the best: (1) "Why is the movie going to cost $154 million?" (2) "Ah....it's Gambit. Why Gambit?!" (3) "Wait...WTF.. did Channing Tatum drop out of a movie he pushed to get?" If this had a Deadpool budget, then I think it would probably be okay. However, we may be getting to the point where it's the Fantastic Four movie all over again. If people don't want to see this movie just like they didn't want to see FF, there is nothing Channing Tatum's name could do to prevent that (see: Jupiter Ascending moving from summer 2014 to early 2015). AxB
Expecting lightning to strike twice is just unrealistic. Hollywood is unrealistic. They make sequels because not only do they expect lightning to stroke twice, they expect the second strike to be bigger, better, harder and faster.
EVA
I don't think it's so much that Channing Tatum isn't bankable, it's Channing Tatum: Action Hero isn't bankable. America loves Channing Tatum in comedy. American women love Channing Tatum as a romantic lead. America seems to give zero fucks about Channing Tatum as an action lead. The only action movie with him as the lead that made any real money at the American box office was the first G.I. Joe movie, which was before anybody knew what a "Channing Tatum" was. (And he was so bad, they wrote him out of the sequel in favor of Franchise Viagra before Soderbergh made him a star.)
Elsalvajeloco
I thought Tatum was actually halfway decent to good in Foxcatcher, but it just got buried by hype from other Oscar nominated movies and then ran into one of the first BO juggernauts of the calendar year during its wide(ish) release. Tough break.
assfax
I got a blu ray drive, one of the least useful PC accessories, just so I could watch my imported Dolph Lundgren Punisher blu ray. WORTH IT. Movie still fucking rules. It's got this great dirty 80s thing like the first Hellraiser movie. I remember this as a very fond VHS rental. Upon this new viewing I'm reinvigorated. ArtVanderlay
Not sure where to post this. I guess I'll put it here to serve as a counterpoint for those of you wanting an X-Men/Fantastic Four xover movie.

EVA
I thought the idea of doing a Legion show as pretty weird, but then I read the blurb describing the show they're going for, and I thought, "Hey, that actually sounds like it could be pretty interesting in the right hands." Then I saw that the pilot was being executive produced and written by NOAH HAWLEY. So I'm certifiably psyched for this show now.

odessasteps
When they reprinted the poster in the Great Darkness Saga tpb, they actually included a key for the poster. Karate Kid is above Mon-El, wearing his orange gi, not the white shirt with giant collar.

The Natural
http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/markcassidycbm/news/?a=125944 Rumour going Fantastic Four back at Marvel Studios in exchange for Fox getting X-Men TV rights. I could have posted this in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase III Discussion but it's better here with all the talk about Fantastic Four (2015).
