RIPPA Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 We conclude "Chris"tmas week with Christy Hemme. Mainly because I screwed up my days and I meant to do Hemme yesterday and Candido today but whatever. I miss making Hemme tattoo jokes. I mean if there is a Wrestling HOF for hideous tattoos - that is going in in the inaugural class. http://youtu.be/Rctr8cNl1gI
NikoBaltimore Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 I just want to mention when the main board page shows this as the last updated thread it reads "Wrestler of the day: Christ" I laughed and laughed and laughed some more. Oh, right, Christy. There was that match she had with Road Warrior Animal in WWE where she didn't look horrible. Completely blanking on the details, but defied my low expectations. And then there was that time where her ass was hungry and needed to feed it. It was so wacky but I ened up remembering that over most of the Diva Search.
Matt D Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 So uh, up until five minutes ago I thought that Christy Hemme and Maria Kanellis were the same person. Look, I didn't watch a ton of mid-late 00s WWE.
J.T. Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 I met Christy at Motor City Comic Con in 2009. She was really nice. She gave us free passes to watch her band play at a club near Hockeytown and they didn't suck.
Matt D Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 Also, because you screwed up and were supposed to make Hemme yesterday and Candido today, I demand tomorrow is an extra bonus CHRIS COLT day.
odessasteps Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 Too bad there are no WOTD next week, because i wonder who Rippa would pick on Boxing Day.
RIPPA Posted December 19, 2014 Author Posted December 19, 2014 Too bad there are no WOTD next week, because i wonder who Rippa would pick on Boxing Day. It would be obvious... and yet no one would get it
Jenalysis Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 She was a pretty good valet/manager (Rock n Rave), that puts her above 80% of the women the WWE has signed since Trish.
Patrick B. Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 Always thought she was hot, even to this day. In-ring, the Mania match with Trish was probably about as good as she got. 1

RIPPA Posted December 19, 2014 Author Posted December 19, 2014 See these are the days that I think Webb is just a bot... 4
caley Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 I always felt the high point of her career was getting the phrase "cum-guzzling gutter slut" on WWE TV. It was even better because it was supposed to be this edgy WWE 'live mic' thing and all the prospective divas trashed each other, then Carmella was actually nice to Christy, said that if she didn't win she hoped Christy did, which is when Christy responded with that filthy diatribe. I always wonder what she would have said if Carmella had been mean to her. 1

Today they would have a graphic telling us that "cum-guzzling gutterslut" is the #1 trend worldwide. 2

jstout Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 What about Joanie Lauer??? We're still awaiting test results on that.
Jingus Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 Christy was always in a tough position, just from the nature of her career. The Divasearch was awful television and did none of its contestants any favors with the crowd, who mostly crapped all over the contest and subsequently crapped all over the winner. She clearly didn't receive adequate training before being thrown into the ring WAY too soon, I guess to capitalize on her Playboy shoot (which was also done way too soon, before the fans were used to seeing her around and thus didn't really think of her as a WWE superstar). Wasn't the Trish match the first time she ever had a non-gimmicked regular singles match? Then she was jobbed out to every woman on the roster and was never made to look like a competent competitor. I guess the WWE just gave up on getting its quarter-million-dollars' money worth out of her, because they shipped her to OVW. And one week after she moved down there, Creative Had Nothing For Her and she was Endeavour'd. Man, talk about the office not even TRYING to help a rookie succeed. They booked her like they actively hated her. Akira Hokuto couldn't have succeeded under those circumstances, let alone a greener-than-angry-Bruce-Banner bikini model. And then she went to TNA, which was sadly not a step up for her, even in the middle of the Knockouts golden age. She fell victim to one of the most misogynistic angles I've ever seen in my life, as she (correctly and accurately) complained about the treatment of women in wrestling... which somehow made her the HEEL in her feud with a woman-hating Billy Gunn. She managed multiple teams against the Outlaws, but Hemme's various wrestlers lost every single match. And while the Rock & Rave team eventually went on to become pretty fun, I still embarrassingly remember their very first promo together, where they were ALREADY arguing with each other and teasing dissension. And then she was subjected to a never-ending barrage of pussy jokes, with everyone ENDLESSLY talking about her red snapper/firecrotch/whatever. (And isn't she a natural brunette anyway? Fucking Russo...) Four long years after her pro debut, Christy finally got the chance to prove herself in the ring... as Awesome Kong's punching bag. Okay, that's a bit unfair, she'd been training for a while with Scott D'Amore and her new-and-improved ring skills were immediately noticeable once she stopped managing and became a full-time wrestler. But still, her one-sided beatings from Kong were spectacularly brutal and were by far the most memorable thing she did in the company. Especially since she eventually began to subtly sell the fact that her character had a growing phobia of Kong, reacting with increasing terror to each new asskicking as if it were a recurring nightmare. I tried to find one in particular on Youtube, but sadly came up empty; it was, like, a Christmas Toybox Battle Royal or some damn TNAriffic thing like that. When Kong inevitably isolated her, Christy just fell down into a fetal ball, crying and screaming and hugging a giant teddy bear, while Kong dragged her backwards by the feet like a victim in a horror movie. And then her last match was jobbing to Lacey Von Erich. Ohhh, this company... 1
Victator Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 She fell victim to one of the most misogynistic angles I've ever seen in my life, as she (correctly and accurately) complained about the treatment of women in wrestling.. I think it would have worked better if it was not a diva search winner telling people that Chyna was an overlooked legend.
Patrick B. Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 On the full list of Diva Search winners, she's firmly in the middle spot ahead of Ashley Massaro and Jaime Koeppe(who was never on TV). Amazing that Layla's still around, though I could see her getting cut loose soon.
Jingus Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 telling people that Chyna was an overlooked legend. Well, truthfully, she was. Chyna was ridiculously over in her heyday; at the only Raw taping I ever attended, she got a bigger crowd pop than everybody else on the roster (with the sole exception of the Rock). She was the first woman in the big leagues to make inter-gender matches into her full-time gimmick, and was arguably a bigger influence on the future of the business than Sable or Sunny ever were. Despite her mannish face and figure, she still managed to make her two Playboy centerfold appearances into bestsellers. Hell, she's the only female WWE star besides Lita who was allowed to write an autobiography (which might have been a mistake, as anyone who's had the misfortune of reading If They Only Knew well knows, but it's still an unexpected accomplishment). And she did that all in an astonishingly short career, less than ten years from debut to retirement and less than three years as a pushed star. She's the Ultimate Warrior of divas. No matter how thoroughly she's trashed her image since then with drugs and porn and general insanity, she's still fondly remembered by the old Attitude fans as an unique trendsetter.
tbarrie Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 Christy Hemme was a beast in Smackdown vs Raw 2006.
Victator Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 By the time she left, fans were sick of her. They were booing her during the Jericho feud and got put with him and later Eddy to salvage her popularity. I think if she had any value, the WWF would have kept her. But it could be they were still power drunk from killing WCW.I mean you are right about a lot of it, but I hated her so much.
The Nature Boy Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 You could make a decent argument for Chyna being in the WWE Hall of Fame. Of course, her ex married the boss's daughter so it's not happening.
