Marvel Comics Omnibus thread

So anyone have any opinions on the Eternals? I was curious if any of the runs on them was worth checking out. I was also curious what are some worthwhile Inhuman stories pre-War of Kings worth checking.

The actual payoff to the Kirby Eternals series in Roy Thomas, etc.'s Thor issues (Annual # 7 and issues # 283-301 - give or take a random tour through Ring of the Nibelung) was really good and surprisingly epic. The epilogue in the Iron Man annual (#6?) not so much but it and Avengers # 246-248 do complete the story. The Thor stuff at least in available in trade paperback.

They've released an Origin of the Inhumans book with all that Lee/Kirby stuff and the underrated '70's stuff in out in the Masterworks series but it's understandable to not want to plop down that kind of cash. Issue # 4 of the Vision/Scarlet Witch series and Fantastic Four #240 did a nice job of setting up the status quo that lasted for fifteen years or so. Avengers Annual #12 as well, if you're inclined.

And, of course, Thing # 3 contains the story where it was revealed that Lockjaw wasn't a dog after all but a severely mutated Inhuman...before that got retconned the hell out of existence...

Wasnt waid part of the rotation a few years ago, when the book was weekly?

Googling shows that you are right and that it had slipped my mind. I still would say that I would like more to see what he could do given control over all aspects Spidey. Though Spider-Man could turn out to be a character like Batman where writers might not find a lot to say about, especially within the confines of the limited lasting changes of such a major character.

Despite original orders of somewhere around 300,000 copies (between a third and a half of that going to Loot Crate), Rocket Raccoon #1 is still going back for a third printing, which should take it close to 400,000 copies overall.

So... Original Sin happened.

For those who didn't bother to read...

Essentially, a number of characters moved up/down a spot to launch new #1s.

Uatu the Watcher is dead (Killed by Nick Fury, Sr.)

Dr. Midas (Grant Morrison creation from Marvel  Boy mini) is dead. (Killed trying to absorb Uatu's energy.

Nick Fury, Sr. is believed dead, and is the new Watcher (as The Unseen)

Oubliette (Midas' daughter) is the new Dr. Midas.

Part of Uatu's death was revealing of numerous secrets (Tony Stark being partially responsible for the Gamma bomb that created the Hulk, Johnny Storm ruining Ben Grimm's transformation back to normal, some secret that will be revealed in The Unworthy Thor, which is why he can't lift Mjolnir, which is stuck on the Moon).

Bucky Barnes, The Winter Soldier is the new "Defender of Earth".

I enjoyed Original Sin in the sense that I enjoyed the issues while reading them.  The payoffs, though.....

I either dislike or am apathetic to almost all the plot developments listed above.

Fury acting as a black ops protector and sniping threats to the planet makes some sense.

Seemingly making Fury a Watcher.... ugh. Just a ridiculous twist.

Is Dan Slott writing Mary Jane Watson the way he is on orders from Joe Quesada, or is that how he actually feels the character should be written?  Because' it's been pretty well established that Mary Jane abandoning her pregnant sister and leaving her to rot in poverty for all those years was the worst thing she had ever done and her greatest shame, and she would never, ever do that again...

...aside from right now where she's abandoned Peter and is acting more out of character for her than when David Michelinie had her take up smoking.

*shrugs*

All of that will either be retconned or completely ignored within two years, if not much much sooner.

When was the last time it was even mentioned that Ronan and Crystal are married and Crystal is basically being held hostage by Black Bolt to keep them apart?

This week in All-New X-Factor, actually. Black Bolt is actually MIA.

It's weird that Luna is like 12 now, while Franklin is still 7.

Sue Storm's even worse, given that the current origin from The Marvel Saga: Official History of The Marvel Universe #16 claims that Sue was 17 when she first met Reed Richards and probably on 21-22 when she gained her powers.  Most of the time now she's portrayed as being late 30's/early 40's even though she should only be 34-35.

The current Spider-man arc claims that "roughly" 13 years have passed since Amazing Fantasy #15.  Previously the "rolling timeline" had been "10 years since Fantastic Four #1."

I'm sure that the 13 years thing will be ignored by later writers.  Comics are a weird thing where many of the writers seem to have issues with their own aging, so they either de-age characters or replace them with younger characters in the costume (Kyle Rayner, Ollie's son, Ryan Choi, etc.) in some sort of attempt to hang onto their own youth or something (and also, admittedly, to try to lure "young readers" who don't actually exist).

Eventually Spider-Man will get a writer who isn't comfortable writing about a 30-year old Peter Parker and retcon it to Peter being 26 or 24.
