Joe Lucia
Yeah. I have no idea why I said Jackson. Who the hell is Jackson? Reggie? Long week, I guess.
BillThompson
Presently Anthony Rizzo leads the NL in just about every important stat for a first baseman. This makes me happy, almost as much as the rest of the league apparently continuing to sleep on him makes me happy.
Craig H
Yeah, The Riz has been awesome to watch. Imagine if he had any protection at all in that lineup.
BrianS81177
That was a helluva throw by Cespedes but I'll take Bo Jackson's best And this is with the artificial hip.
Kyle Casey
So, as It turns out, not only is Ruben Amaro a horrible GM, but he's an idiot to boot. A buffoonery double threat! http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-big-league-stew/jimmy-rollins-and-mike-schmidt-s-career-batting-averages-leave-ruben-amaro-confused-070851832.html
Tabe
That's hysterical. How does a GM not understand that stuff?
RIPPA
Speaking of the Phillies In the least shocking news of the month - now that Jimmy Rollins is the all time Phillies hit leader he is open to waiving his no-trade clause

RIPPA
Fuck. .394 in '94. This was tobacco-related wasn't it? Yeah - his cancer was of the salivary gland and Gwynn said it was his years of dipping that caused it.
odessasteps
Oh no. My favorite player as a kid.
Kyle Casey
Probably the best pure hitter of my lifetime, and an awesome guy to boot. This really sucks.

Gonzo
Probably the best pure hitter of my lifetime, and an awesome guy to boot. This really sucks. Agreed. In the 30 years or so I've been a baseball fan, I've never seen a better pure hitter than Tony Gwynn. One of the few non-Twins that I really enjoyed watching. Josh Mann
Awwwwww man. His teammates swear (there were more, but I specifically remember Sheff saying it) he could have hit 30-35 jacks a season if he wanted to. But he was more interested in slapping the outer half stuff to left and setting the table. Smartest hitter of his generation, bar none.
ChesterCopperpot
Some crazy stats I just read about Gwynn RT @suss2hyphens Starlin Castro has more career strikeouts than Tony Gwynn @AceballStats: #Padres Tony Gwynn faced Greg Maddux 107 times in his career, more than any other pitcher; Gwynn batted .415, Maddux never struck him out.

That's nuts right there. Arguably the greatest pitcher of his generation, and Gwynn owned him.
Joe Lucia
There has been so much awesome stuff about Gwynn's career coming out today. No pitcher ever struck him out ten times despite over 10k plate appearances. His career high in strikeouts was 40. He had just one career three strikeout game, and zero career four strikeout games. He had 100 more career doubles than strikeouts. His career high in strikeouts was 40. Simply incredible.

Josh Mann
Even if it's Greg Maddux, he's still a professional baseball player. It could be anything from "asshole" to [see You Next Tuesday].
piranesi
Reading Gwynn's wikety page, I'm reminded yet again what an irredeemable asshole Jack Clark is.
Travis Sheldon
I got to meet Tony Gwynn back in 1986, he was very nice to me and my grandmother. I'm feeling very old and sad about this. R.I.P. Tony Gwynn
