Jerry Hattrick
What's the worst possible way you could have booked the introduction of the NWO and the third man? Maybe not the worst, perhaps bizzare. Warrior as the third man. WCW'S version of Warrior's music hits. Fans go nuts seeing who it is. Runs down to the ring. Shakes ropes. Big splash instead of leg drop. Warrior rambles about a New World Order in professional wrestling and some other incoherent nonsense. Yes, he has history with Hogan, Sting and Savage, but seriously, who the duck would see that coming?

GuerrillaMonsoon
I have a morbid fascination with the idea of Gorilla Monsoon being the third man. OH BOY BRAIN, THESE FANS CAN STICK IT! In fact they can use the irresistible force of my immovable object to stick it! THEY WENT TO THE WELL ONE TOO MANY TIMES JESS! YOU FANS LITERALLY HANGING FROM THE RAFTERS CAN STICK YOUR EXTERNAL OCCIPITAL PROTUBERANCE RIGHT IN MY BREAD BASKET AND DO A REAL PEARL HARBOUR JOB ON ME

Victator
The big rumor before the show was Jeff Jarrett being the third man. Long term, that might have been best for WCW. The nWo story line has a six month run and goes away, before it consumes everything.

Nine year old me would have lost it nearly as much as when Hogan turned. And the Gorilla Monsoon/nWo stuff is nothing short of fantastic.

GuerrillaMonsoon
That's actually a pretty cool What If in itself. If Jesse was still around commentating at the advent of the NWO - does he side with them? He'd seem like a perfect fit, especially with their need for a color guy when they took over Nitro. On the other hand, he hated Hogan and loves the conspiracy about new world orders and what not. Was a pretty cool dynamic with Brain spending the first few months basically saying I told you so about Hogan. Does Ventura pre-warn WCW about this happening? Or does he sell out and side with them? Unfortunately, given they could never deliver an in ring blowoff to Hogan/Ventura, it'd be a bit of a tease.

Ultimo Necro
Continuing the Gorilla Monsoon nWo theme... The Iron Yuppie
Watching old Manias on The Network, had this thought: What if the roles of Savage and Hogan were reversed going into WrestleMania 5? The pop for Savage when he beats DiBiase at WM 4 is huge, seems as big as the pops Hulk was getting. And by most measures of actual life, Hulk could be the heel in that situation. After all, he was the former top guy who was latching onto the new champ to steal some of his thunder. Hell, he's paling up to the guy's wife! How does that not make him heel? Anyway, it's interesting to think what happens if Macho is given the opportunity to be the No. 1 face and Hulk is turned heel six years earlier. He still had mileage as the guy, but I'd go as far as to say fans had tired of Hulkamania two years later by WM 7, hence the downscaling of the event from the Coliseum to the God-awful Sports Arena. Stuttsy
I think IF they had attempted this experiment it would have closely resembled the Austin heel turn of 2001 in the sense that they'd get cold feet and turn him back within a few months. I don't think the audience was ready to accept him as a heel in 1989.
LooseCannon
And what if they cemented Hogan's heel turn in your scenario by having Miss Elizabeth turn on the Macho Man and join Hulk?
CanadianChris
To be fair, Liz wasn't Randy's wife (or even girlfriend) in storylines at WMV.
Phantom Lord
To be fair, Liz wasn't Randy's wife (or even girlfriend) in storylines at WMV. No, but we all accepted that she was the only sane thing in the Macho Man's life. Thinking about it, what if when she first came into the WWF they went with her original character where she was supposed to be this Joan Collins Dynasty type heel. I could see Miss Elizabeth leading a stable of men with Savage, Jesse Ventura (since Savage and Ventura were teaming). Could you imagine the riots that would have broke out if she played poor George Steele for a fool and it all led to Savage and Ventura beating him senseless and doing the ring bell to him instead of Steamboat. Ricky then fights for his good friend. You still get the same revenge story. I'm just picturing George coming out in a neck brace and Elizabeth slapping him.
