Peck Posted February 3 Posted February 3 Charlotte and Andrade have entered the (dating) Transfer Window, TMZ says a judge signed off on their divorce in October. 1
Cobra Commander Posted February 3 Posted February 3 (edited) Hearing the song "Heartbreaker" by Pat Benetar on the radio and reimagining it as "Armbreaker", a song for Penta. Although Penta in the "Love Is A Battlefield" video would be a visual too. Penta leading a group of people doing the Cero Miedo gestures to intimidate someone in a bar. (edit: just thought of the nicknames "Penta Benatar".. or "Pat Penta-tar") And at the risk of making light of divorce, does three divorces mean that Charlotte Flair could be the Elizabeth Taylor of Wrestling? odessasteps Posted February 3 Posted February 3 It's also funny Sam Fatu is a different person than The Great Samu.
Cobra Commander Posted February 3 Posted February 3 they must not have considered the name Sam-Deux as Sam Fatu's name replacing Samu in the SST 1 1

James i'm sure there's a good Mexico/Hispanic-centered WW2 movie that could be made to tap into the genre.. some of it might even be based on a true story too just need a line or two of dialogue to explain why El Santo is masked and fighting Nazis in Europe Edited February 3 by Cobra Commander
Ramo2653 Posted February 3 Posted February 3 3 hours ago, Stefanie Sparkleface said: Fox owns Tubi outright, so Evolve being on Tubi would indeed be a WWE/Fox relationship. Correct, but it's not as if they announced those guys being feature on Tubi or anything during the broadcast. They sent Melo, Nattie, Nia, Tiffany, and Chelsea to the PBA event.
Infinit Posted February 3 Posted February 3 Talking about Tonga Kid/Tama...it's crazy that he was main eventing WWF shows in 1985 teaming with Jimmy Snuka when he was only 19. 1
odessasteps Posted February 3 Posted February 3 And working in Southeastern before that in the RAT patrol. 1

So your point is that WWE people going to Tubi events and promoting a WWE branded show means that WWE and Fox - who again, own Tubi - are NOT in business with each other? 1

Cobra Commander Posted February 4 Posted February 4 you need all the Woo Energy you can get if the ex-wife is getting half in the settlement 1

Sigh. No. The US Open broadcast was a Fox event. I was speculating on if they were just there for the heck of it or not. I did mention the relationship in my initial post.
Peck Posted February 4 Posted February 4 Fun fact from Meltz: Quote Alexa Bliss signed a five-year deal with WWE on Saturday negotiated by agent Dean Muhtadi (formerly Mojo Rawley). I will say that everyone insists to me the deal was finalized at the last minute and was not this plan to get one over. The fact Bliss replaced Shotzi in the match also at the last minute would indicate that as well.
Cobra Commander Posted February 4 Posted February 4 looking at HistoryOfWWE Quote WWF @ Erie, PA – Civic Center – August 20, 1991 Wrestling Challenge taping: The scheduled bout between Ricky Steamboat and WWF IC Champion Mr. Perfect did not take place due to the champion’s back injury oh man, that match would have ruled even in 1991 (they never faced each other)
odessasteps Posted February 4 Posted February 4 That's like how they were talking about Ricky Steamboat wrestling Ricky Morton in tages during the York foundation era. I guess they had 3 tags but never a singlea.

I think the point is that WWE didn't send a bunch of Evolve wrestlers and then have Rob Stone point out the Evolve/WWE-on-Tubi relationship. I suppose we'll still get WWE supplying replica world titles to the winner of the PBA Playoffs, too, but it's strange that they don't make their relationship more explicit post-Smackdown-on-Fox. 1
supremebve Posted February 5 Posted February 5 When does the Meltzer pushback go too far and we start giving him credit for treating wrestling like an artform and putting together a system to analyze and criticize the artform. He's not perfect by any means, but I still feel like Meltzer's ratings are a decent baseline on what is and what isn't good. You may disagree with him like you would disagree with Roger Ebert or John Caramanica, but having someone who's taste you can reference is valuable when assessing any artform. 6

It's funny you mentioned Ebert because I think (with the benefit of hindsight, of course) that a "thumbs up/down" system would have benefitted discourse and been a much better way to illustrate that baseline, as you call it. The star thing is cool and all, but I think it causes folks to get wrapped up in the minutia a bit too much. "I can't believe that was only four stars from Dave, I have it at 5" - so in other words... you both liked the fucking match? Idk maybe it's just me. 4
