Forgot they were showing a full episode of NXT and not a yearly recap. I can't figure out why OTM matches are dead since their work is solid, I think they need something else to connect with the crowd. Maybe some more clubbering with Briggs and Jensen or Hank and Tank?

Briggs/Dar was solid before the DQ but Meta Four is going to have nonsense with their matches. Not sure why Briggs/Jenson/Henley had to break up, but I guess they want to do some other stuff with their characters. Speaking of, so Fallon's folks own a bar and a ranch? That's some decent on paper wealth which doesn't explain why she had to fight Kianna to get her to back off from trying to buy the bar before. Hell why wouldn't Kianna try to buy the damn ranch with the way farmland is getting snapped up currently? I know, I know it's wrestling logic.

Fraiser/Bron was fun.

Underground match was solid too.

I can't see any title changes next week, but I'm excited still.

Chase/Duke vs. OTM was solid. Surprised to see some of the audience randomly into OTM given the lack of interest shown before.

Dar/Briggs was good before the DQ. Dug how far ahead Briggs was able to stay just via power and will. M4 resorting to a DQ finish was actually kind of neat as its not a norm for these matches and it was a decent setup with how badly Dar was doing against Briggs.

Briggs, Jensen, and Fallon breaking up backstage was handled well ough. Not sure how well they do on their own. Fallon has potential though I still think she is miscast as a face. briggs is good in the ring but need some characters. Jensen is probably the one I'm least sure about. He isn't bad, but he doesn't really excel at anything either.

Cora/Karmen was decent. I actually thought this might have been Petrovic's best NXT showing so far.

King/RIley was nice while it lasted but short. It does feel like King is gaining more confidence in and out of the ring with his character each week. Surprised he took the loss here, but I also like that Bearhill who King stole the spot of keep coming after him.

Bron/Frazer was good though kind of an extended squash dye to the different levels of status. I kind of like how NXT did this again. Its nice when there are levels to this. That spear to finish things off was awesome and one of Bron's more brutals ones with Frazer taking a double impact with the mid-air collision and crash tot he ground.

The No Quarter Catch Catch Crew promo was solid. I do wish they just acknowledged it would be Gulak, Kemp, amd Bourne taking on LWO seeing that Dempsey has a Triple Crown match to compete in. Actually its a bit of a shame none of them will be there to support him. Hopefully Regal is.

Legado reunion was neat. Still not sure why Lopez never moved up with the rest.

Oba/Tavion was fun with both guy's rocking decent power and willing to throw each other around. They probably have the most potential out of the pure rookies in the tournament.

The Arianna/Ava segment was fun. Ava becoming HBK's assistant the past month or so has been random but works for her. Curious if she is giving up on actually wrestling.

Battle of the Joe's fun if only for the dumb audience chants it inspired though Gacy and Coffey still put in decent work.

Thorpe/Dijak was good and Thorpe's best showing yet. Was nice and rough with the two doing some occasionally crazy shit. The finish delivered as well after the big stuff both guys had survived up until that point. After this I'm just curious if Thorpe is a NA or NXT champ in 2024.

Pretty solid show with some fun matches and two pretty worthwhile ones in Bron/Frazer and Thorpe/Dijak. A little light on women's matches compared to the norm, but the division's presence was still felt in the various segments building up New Year's Evil and NXT tv in general. Not a bad show to end 2023 on with NYE looking like a fine way to start 2024.

I assume since it was a taped episode that the deal was completed after it was taped and Vic and Booker had already gone on vacation so they couldn't redo commentary.

Chanting "You Still Got It" for CM Punk at the MSG house show is some next level tribalism trolling.

I want to like Karmen Petrovic but it seems like every match has at least one part where it is just her hitting the punch and kick button as much as possible and most are way off

It's what he has been calling it since his time in New Japan, so it's very much a name that he decided to use.

Yes, well, there was that time the erstwhile Sparky Plugg named his finisher the Hollycaust, so... maybe these folks aren't necessarily the best judges for their move names.

Holly blames Russo for that one. From his book, he says he was using a pumphandle slam until Russo came to him and said they were giving that to Test.

"I tried the Falcon Arrow for a while but didn’t really like it. It didn’t help that Russo wanted to call it “the Hollycaust.” That got stopped quickly when the office decided the name would offend a lot of people"

Gotta be a better name for Thorpe’s finish than Manifest Destiny

I mean the Native guy with the "Kill the Indian, Save the Man" chest tattoo might have some weird thoughts about his ethnicity how to display it.

2023 going out with a bang: Kevin Dunn is Kevin Done with the WWE.

I wonder if the security camera feed kept zooming in and cutting to different cameras as he was escorted out…
