AEW TV - 10/4 - 10/10/2023 - On This Day, I. P. Freely

Next week, the internet will be unbearable. Dynamite has been pre-empted and moved to Tuesday. meaning it'll be going head to head with NXT again. WWE has responded to this by announcing John Cena, Cody Rhodes, Paul Heyman and Asuka as appearing on next week's NXT show. So there's going to be discourse.

New Era!

Has anything been announced for tonight? A Copeland promo right out of the gate I’m sure but I haven’t seen anything official

  • Fenix vs Nick Jackson
  • Omega/Jericho vs Takeshita/Sammy
  • Copeland speaks

Not so great so far.

Interesting we're getting that tag right after the trios at the PPV - perhaps they think they can catch some of that Cole/MJF lightning in a bottle again by teaming Jericho/Omega semi-regularly?

I'm a fan of 'video game' matches so while I'm personally looking way forward to Fenix/N Jackson, I can see where that might not be everyone's cup of tea

Also re: Copeland - I watched a bit of the scrum from Sunday and the plan is promo tonight, promo on Collision, and then debut match on the Dynamite Title Tuesday show next week

Edit: Just thinking a bit further on Cole/MJF, I wonder if they are waiting to see how Cole's surgery goes before making a determination on what to do with MJF. What I DON'T want is for him to end up trapped in a place-holder feud that ultimately has no real heat because we're just in a holding pattern for Cole to recover and continue -  I fear a situation where they say 'fuck it' and MJF ends up wrestling Brian Cage or Lance Archer for the next three months. I mean, the matches would be great, no doubt, but the finish would never be in question at any point

They did kick-start the Jay White/MJF stuff after Cole's injury. So, hopefully that means they're going forward with that.

Ahhhh I'm being a dummy, I completely forgot about the devil mask beatdown and Collision promo segment - good looks. I had to wait til Saturday to watch all 3 of last weeks TVs and it's a bit of a blur.

I'm excited for White to finally shine in a big singles - I've said this before, but if I were someone who didn't follow NJPW closely or were otherwise unfamiliar with him - like, say I was a kid seeing him for the first time on AEW TV - I'd probably think he's a tag specialist based on all the Juice matches (which, in fairness, have been awesome)

Vince is a sad, sad man.

  1. Stack your C show
  2. Beat your distant competitor on an off night
  3. Celebrate on the private jet listening to Best of AC/DC while eating steak wraps

On the other hand, it's taken 10 years (with me not watching for 5 of 'em) but this seems to finally be tacit admission that Asuka is a star

Also on tonight: Saraya vs Shida for the title. Can’t imagine them hot potatoing the belt back to Shida unless Saraya can’t be champ long term

Edit: and it’s the 4th anniversary show, hope we get a cool recap video

Edit again: I was wrong

I believe that’s for next weeks title Tuesday. Kevin Kelly kept saying it wrong on collision.

Not that I enter the social media places where such discourse happens, but which would be worse: NXT winning by 500k+ or Dynamite winning/barely losing against a John Cena show?

When you enter into that discourse, there are no winners.

He's come a long way from Prichard needing to convince him that some people might find Asian women attractive (his only metric for female talent at the time).  I'm proud of him.

PS thanks for saying "5 of em."  Now I have Zandig does Danzig in my head.

Oh noooo, if it's any consolation, it's now living mine too after watching (it's been a while, I was due).

Semi-related, apparently these guys are buddies with Danhausen, and do the (kick ass) music for Julia Hart:

You haven’t seen the Billy Ass and the Ass Boys song they did?
