  1. Yep. He's never been a superhero. Never. He lost in 18 seconds to Sheamus and came out of it stronger. That's why I think you guys should stop getting so wound up about individual wins and losses. It hasn't mattered before. He was second to leave NXT. He was fired for choking someone with a tie. He won the US Title and jobbed a ton. He isn't affected by these things the way shit guys like McIntyre and Barrett are. Somehow, despite the nature of the business, people will follow the guy down as well as up. So chill the fuck out.

  2. And now I am getting an image of HHH asking Steph to dress up as HBK in the bedroom. Lots of sex standing up because no one's laying down for anybody in that scenario.

  3. I doubt we'd find enough people to pool enough money to buy a TNA ppv, much less TNA.

  4. Who the hell isn't a star that we like?Punk held the title for about 1.5 years and friggin' had the Undertaker match at Wrestlemania. And had a match against The Rock before that. Man, what a burial. It's crazy that Daniel Bryan has main-evented every single Raw and PPV for about five months now. What a burial, they way they gave him essentially the entire last hour of Raw when he took on three dudes. And it's also super tragic the way The Shield were booked as pretty much the greatest stable since The Four Horsemen and won every single match they had until a few weeks ago. And their three came at the hands of Dustin/Cody in three of the best matches of the year -- one of which was one of the best tag matches ever. Geez, it's friggin' awful the way the indie darlings have been treated by the WWE.

  5. You guys realize Bryan is something like 16-2 against Orton and The Shield since SummerSlam? And his only losses came because of machi"nations, and the one was when Randy cashed in the title after Bryan beat Cena in what's probably the MOTY? And the dude who cost him the match last night is booked as essentially the greatest wrestler of all-time (and whether he is or not is besides the point). Oh, and his "YES! chant is the unifying point of the huge faces on the roster? If Bryan goes on to lose to a crippled Curtis Axel tonight then tell me about him being buried. He's about to get into it with Shawn Michaels and HHH. And, oh yeah, there's a friggin' Survivor Series match most likely coming up with him/Cody/Dustin/Show vs. The Shield/Randy. That's a friggin' awesome, awesome, awesome match and absolutely built for him to overcome those odds.

  6. Probably the truest words in this thread. I mean, you guys know this is a work, right? Bryan holding or not holding the title does not mean he is or isn't the best wrestler in the world. Plus, WWE is much, MUCH worse at booking face title reigns (See Punk, C.M.) than they are at booking heel title reigns with face chase. Plus, this allows WWE to spin the story off in two directions: Bryan vs. Triple H and Big Show vs. Orton. From a mark standpoint, what's a bigger deal? Feuding with Triple H or feuding with World Champion Randy Orton? It's quite obviously the former.

  11. I can save Bryan very easily. He starts stalking Triple H to give him the flying knee once a day. Start showing vignettes: Triple H on an investor's call? Bryan flys in from off camera with a flying knee! Triple H at the gym with those dumb toe-shoes things on? Bryan flying knee! Triple H making love to his wife? Bryan flying knee!

  13. Oh, God. It's really happening. HHH is the higher power behind the Wyatts. That aside, what Bryan did tonight is exactly what he should have been doing the past couple of months. You screw him over, he fucks you up.

Somehow, despite the nature of the business, people will follow the guy down as well as up. So chill the fuck out. My initial hypothesis on the success of this angle was because Bryan's the wrestler wrestling fans can relate to the most. He's a genuinely geeky dude fighting a power structure made up of cool kids that want one of their own to have the belt. He's the goofball with the messy desk who didn't get the job promotion because the frat guy boss passed him up for a younger "brother." He's the chubby girl in high school who can sing and act her ass off who is relegated to being a Pink Lady because the pretty girl's mom is on the board of trustees at the community theater. He's a band like the amazing Luna who get signed to a major label but don't get radio airplay while some nimrods like the dreadful Eve 6 or Alien Ant Farm end up selling out arenas. That's why Bryan has this success. He's been an easily identifiable underdog since Day 1. Fired from the Nexus angle. His first feud was with The Miz, the ultimate in WWE marketing who cruelly mentored him and put him down. He had a great run with the Smackdown belt and lost it to Sheamus, who is a talented wrestler but definitely someone who oozes the phoniness of a guy who wants to go to charity events to cement his career and not because he gives a crap about other people. He got saddled with what should have been a DOA gimmick w/ Kane and turned it into one of the most entertaining comic acts in a really long time. He's not a Superman and he never will be, and thinking he should be is a wrong way to look at things, especially if you complain about Cena always being a superhero who overcomes the odds.

  17. He turned up BEFORE the start of the American involvement in WWII, created by two Jewish kids as wish fulfillment/propaganda to get the US into the war and stop the atrocities that Simon/Kirby were hearing about via relatives still back in Europe. You gotta realize that from the 20s-41 America was staunchly isolationist, and people thought the Nazis were A-OK because they were rebuilding Germany after an economic collapse. In the 50s Stan wrote Cap as a reactionary, hunting Commies, but that didn't last very long and was quickly retconned after they re-intro him in the '60s. No middle eastern baddies for Cap in the 90s, nor communist baddies in the '80s. (outside some run-ins with Iron Man/FF villains) In fact Cap met up with a Russian version of the Avengers (the Winter Guard) and was downright friendly with them after the initial "superhero misunderstanding fight" In the movie he wanted to join up because it was AFTER Pearl Harbor, you self-centered fuckwit. Look at what happened after 9/11, people began enlisting in droves because their country had been attacked. That's not jingoism, that's patriotism. He didn't want to kill anyone or be killed, he wants to do whatever he can to help out and bring as many people as possible back home alive. I know it's hard for you to understand, but some people actually interact with their community, and when they see something that's wrong they try to fix it.

  18. Yeah, he didn't have to give back a Heisman because his parents refused to buy their own house. College players not being paid is the worst thing about American sports.

  20. Okay, armchair bookers -- if Bryan wins, then what do you do? Where do you go with Orton and where do you go with Big Show and who does he feud with? The angle has been Bryan vs. The Authority. Bryan thought he could beat them by winning the title. He can't win the title until he gets through HHH and (now) his former mentor first. There's isn't anyone on the roster who can take Orton's spot as the lead henchman to The Authority role.So now you have HHH vs. Bryan, Orton vs. Big Show, Rhodes vs. The Shield (and The Usos), etc. The story's a bigger picture now. Legit, I wasn't a fan of the wrestling last night but everyone who is butt-hurt about Bryan not winning the belt and his legs being cut off -- he's clearly the better wrestler than Orton and has pinned him about 750 times. The only time Orton has been able to get him is because of HHH's machinations. He's still the best and everyone knows it. Only, now, HHH is about to eat a flying knee or 400 for the next few months.

  21. The biggest problem for a new ownership is that TNA's risen and fallen based on whatever was trendy on the indy scene at the time. When TNA began, the cruiserweight/workrate style was trendy, so the X-Division made TNA instantly popular with fans. Later in the 2000s, when SHIMMER made women's wrestling trendy, the Knockouts ended up being popular for TNA.By contrast, this year...there isn't really one distinct style you can point to on the independent scene and say "THIS is the trend right now" that can lead to a niche that TNA can build around. The only thing TNA could have is building to the people who want the Attitude Era back- and we've seen over the last 11 years that no, TNA can't do that right, even if they DID do it right people want the "wrestlers" more than the style anyway [so they'd STILL be unhappy with it], and as a result it'd fail with their attempt. What is the current trend on the Indies? PDFs and meeting AJ Styles in an airport parking lot at 3 in the morning where he gives you a VHS of what's really going on in TNA.

  27. No, it was an organic process beginning with an embarrassing loss. That was the beginning of the genesis of the origin of the introduction of Daniel Bryan. Man, that joke will never get old. I think McGillicutty should go back to that name, lead a stable called Genesis and be the mouthpiece for a bunch of guys who could talk if he would only give up the mic.

  32. This said it better than I ever could. If the WWE's grand plan is for Byran to win the Rumble (going from number 1 no less) to win at WM, it's not going to work. It's really amazing how the WWE can screw something up when they have something special. They did it to Punk by having him come back way too quick after he won the WWE Title (lets not even get into Nash being thrown into the feud). I mean people want to root for Daniel Bryan. Every time he gets momentum, they do this.Birds of a feather... So are you claiming that he is in a better position and more over than he was at SummerSlam? That he's in a better position to make the company money? I was just pointing out how you and the Phantom Lord are on the same page. But, in response to your question, another question: Should he just go over everyone always?

Michael Cole: "AJ Styles is just getting destroyed by every openly gay employee in the WWE."

  46. Andrew, in all seriousness, I think the lesson to be learned here is that if you have face to face time with someone and you are interested or sense a spark, that is your opportunity to ask her out for coffee. She may still say no, which is her prerogative, but you get no mileage out of not saying a word to her in person but then going home and immediately doing online research and asking from an emotionally safer distance. Also, please note for future reference that if and when a girl turns you down, it does not mean she thinks she is better than you or that she is egotistical. It just means she isn't interested. She is allowed to be not interested, just like you are if you were politely propositioned by a man or woman you found unsavory. As for her posting your phone number online, that seems like pretty unreasonable bevahior unless she felt in some way threatened by your interaction, whether that be what you typed, how you interacted with her in person, or due to the efforts you went to in order to find her personal (not professional) online presence. I'm not going to assign blame to you or her because it is a fools errand, but know that consciously or not, she did it as a defense mechanism. Rarely if ever can an action like that be attributed to "reporters/bitches be crazy". I obviously don't know you or your situation, but this seems to be a consistent obstacle for you in your social life. Have you considered going to a dedicated counselor for it? Sometimes talking through your past experiences with someone who really has heard and seen it all can make you look at things with a brand new perspective.
