Dolfan in NYC Posted November 5 Posted November 5 I see a red door and I want it painted black.Β No colors anymore, I want them to turn black.Β Β We're on the road to Full Gear!Β We have a World Title match!Β Β A (NEW) tag team championship match! Even a (secondary) WOMEN'S championship match!Β Β We got everything! Β I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes.Β I have to turn my head, until my darkness goes... Meanwhile, MJF is laying out stips for the gift of jobbing to him.Β Β And Ricochet is teasing a mystery partner in his tag match against Takeshita & Fletcher.Β Β (But's probably NOT Dijak!) Β I see a line of cars and they're all painted black.Β With flowers and my love, both never to come back. Also on tap for tonight: Β Malakai's face paint isn't so much scary as... "Tree That's Come To Life".Β Β (Mick should have won an Oscar for Freejack.) Enjoy the week. 2 2
NikoBaltimore Posted November 5 Posted November 5 I actually did this for karaoke last Saturday.Β Went better than expected but I'm certainly no Mick Jagger. The show looks like lots of fun but man I'm hoping Malakai can pull off some magic to make Cole look better. 4
AxB Posted November 5 Posted November 5 The Rolling Stones went from 'Paint It Black' to 'She's a Rainbow' in the space of 18 months. You do wonder what happened in their lives, to change them so dramatically in such a short timespan. 2

StuntmanCrowley Posted November 6 Posted November 6 I've never been high on the Adam Cole hate train, but it's criminal that he's most likely going over Black tonight. 3

Those 18 months happening in 1966 & 1967, I'm confident the answer can be summarized by the word "drugs." 2 1

Honest question... What is Black's appeal, outside of a spooky gimmick?Β I'm not saying he is the shits or anything, but I rate him as the third best worker in HOB.Β I feel the same way about "spooky" characters as most other people do with "rapper" gimmicks, so that doesn't help with my particular tastes.Β It just seems like he is over bc of the gimmick, but he doesn't really have good matches or have interesting angles. And with his history of not doing clean jobs (regardless of why) he seems like someone perfect to feed to a guy like Cole that you are trying to re-establish.Β Is there something that I'm missing? 4

I honestly don't think so. Your assessment of his ranking within HOB is dead-on - maybe it is "just" the gimmick, but it's a damn fine one - people love spooky shit. Lots of horror/metal/comic book crossover in wrestling. I'm a fan, so I definitely don't intend this to be a knock, but I legitimately think his enduring level of overness can af least partially be ascribed to that: Undertaker's done, Sting's done, here's the new generation lights out spooky guy. ETA: For another example, it seemed to me like Bray Wyatt was a guy who was always similarly over in that way prior to his passing, and knew how to leverage that kind of imagery. Lawful Metal Posted November 6 Posted November 6 Malakai is cool. Thatβs it. Soβs Brody, Buddy and Julia. And theyβre cooler together.Β and though theyβre heels, they have a weird code of ethics and are there for each other, and show respect when appropriate. Theyβre cool. 3
Lawful Metal Posted November 6 Posted November 6 I donβt think Adam Cole is cool. I think his best role is as a lovable goober, like in the MJF brochacho angle. Roderick is kinda in that role right now (but at least heβs a super worker and believable in the ring). Itβs probably a minor pivot to get Adam there but heβd probably have to change his in ring work to a more lovable Roddy Piper style cheating (but in a lovable way).Β But last weeks match with Buddy was done so wrong and the whole Iβm going to go to the back and forfeit due to injury made him look so lame. The opposite of Mankind falling off the stretcher at Hell in a Cell.Β Especially if heβs not going to sell the ankle 5 minutes later let alone wrestle another match the very next weekΒ Β 3

John from Cincinnati Posted November 6 Posted November 6 I think the overarching Moxley story stinks, but thatβs a very appealing tag match. Claudio basing for those guys and if PACβs gonna insist on wearing his gear everywhere he might as well work.Β

SturmCRF Posted November 6 Posted November 6 I enjoy Malakai as a wrestler, but I really love that he has good, eclectic taste in music. That Amenra theme is maybe the best wrestling entrance of all time. And in Progress Wrestling he came out to Agoraphobic Nosebleed, so he's not just into big scary beard dude music, he's also into small scary craft beer guy music. He's like me if I was taller, more handsome, better at fighting people, and Dutch. His promos are a bit rambly and bollocks though. 2 4

Malakai's early run showed a lot of promise. Minus the goofy commentary, his debut was pretty sensational. I loved the Cody squash, but the feud seemed to fail to elevate him. The story from there seems to be dominated by a back injury and a want to leave. Both issues seemed to reduce his opportunities. I've generally enjoyed his in ring - there's a fun pair of matches somewhere in there against Fuego Del Sol and the Dark Order. I thought the House's dominate title win over the Elite was pretty outstanding. TheΒ promos have always been questionable to say the least. The 'HOB rules' gimmick seemed like a random and ill-conceived idea, not unlike a lot of their creative - especially that ridiculous lighting scheme they thankfully stopped with. Malakai and his crew's use of the lights out gimmick has been more miss than hit,Β but 'Oh My' that entrance! I like him as a wrestler, but his presentation feels like his greatest strength.
