looking at a photo of Ahmed Johnson as Moadib and being surprised that he didn't come to the WWF with a Genie gimmick

although I could see how certain parts of the Genie thing could go over poorly if the genie was a black guy enslaved to a magic lamp and made to fulfill wishes for someone

Vince prob would have wanted the black genie to be paired with a blonde white girl who owned the lamp.

Given that he was doing that gimmick right around the time Harlem Heat got paired with Sherri, it's not inconceivable. It was also around the time of Madonna's "Sex" photobook where she had those pictures with Big Daddy Kane (+Naomi Campbell to be fair).

Re: Afa/Sika

I just happened to watching a random Headshrinkers match before WrestleMania IX the other day, and for some reason, Afa just starts speaking very clear English and calling out the Steiners in the middle of the squash catching Vince on commentary off again. "...SO HE DOES SPEAK ENGLISH?!" Bruh, if wrestling were real, he's only been in the country for multiple decades at this point. He's probably picked up some English in the interim, Vince.

Madonna’s culture vulture shit was so transparent and gross.  She was on Letterman and she mentioned that she only dated basketball players like eight times.  I’m surprised she wasn’t wearing a shirt that said “I fuck black dudes.”   Oooooh so transgressive.  Fuck Madonna and her use of black men as props to shock white America like 10 years too late (5 if you’re in the south 🤣)

Wonder if Afa could do a good Captain Lou impersonation after spending so much time around him

I think he could handle being drunk while wearing a hawaiian shirt

Didn't she start talking with a fake British accent after getting together with Guy Richie?

I believe so. I think it was also around the time she got into Kabbalah and started wearing the red Kabbalah bracelet.

Where are we talking about the WWE ID programme and all of the indie wrestlers getting an official "That doesn't work for me brother" certificate?

Considering Ken Anderson was involved, I don't doubt that. No, I'm not going to torture myself and watch it.

I imagine Ken Anderson will never return to WWE.

I think we’ll have a much clearer idea of what impact it may have after the Nick Wayne vs. Jack Cartwheel match in Defy tonight.

Im currently having more of a laugh about Tim Thatcher having a coach role in this program. Because if I want to make it in WWE, I definitely want to be taking pointers from a guy who was famously ratings poison on NXT and got bounced before he even made it out of developmental.

I don't know if I'd go that far, HHH clearly liked his work and kept him around as a trainer before Vince did his Covid purges. He just wasn't going to make WWE TV proper with Vince in charge.

The ID program seems fine on the surface. We'll never get the full details unless someone leaks a contract or does a shoot interview after. Seems like an official version of what WWE did with the Hardys in the mid 90s, paid em some money each month but told them to just keep working indies and they'd reach out if they wanted to do a proper deal.

Yeah, it was Progress that WWE did a deal with. Progress Wrestling barely survived, under new ownership, with basically none of the pre-WWE involvement roster still there. Now the fact that it had been a hotbed for Speaking Out related incidents is connected to the fact that it came to that too, but nobody is pretending that 2024 Progress is anything but a shadow of what it was in 2018.

Yeah, I don't see this as necessarily a bad thing. Try as anyone might, you can never control independent wrestling. And if I am Paul Levesque, why would I want to? That's really a waste of money and resources. Also, I don't know if WWE really wants to associate with promoters who once you start digging may have done some unsavory stuff behind the scenes. The last thing you want to do if give them free promotion. The fact that they're doing stuff with Game Changer is kinda wild when you think about it.

Speaking of that, I do think it's interesting on top of a WWE ID talent facing an AEW talent in DEFY, you got Charlie Dempsey on the same Bloodsport card with MVP, an AEW contracted talent. I am guessing this is unofficial AAA and CMLL type thing where they must be separated if it's not some pre-existing commitment that was made before either talent were contracted with their rival promotions.

That's the whole damn business!  It's gonna take nineteen clean blowout shits before you even start seein' clear water. And even then!

I'll throw out Shelly Martinez vs. Rebel from one of those TNA One Night Only ppv's. It's notable for Shelly audibly yelling out "My Vag" and for her big Latina floppies constantly coming out of her bikini.

I took a few days off from this thread and good god. That spot where Shelly countered Rebel's kick by yanking her into the splits was one of the uglier things I've seen but that whole match, man. Yikes.

I can't believe I've seen the little dude tossing the bomb on the boat and all the other WCW Wrestlecrap but I've never seen THAT. Somebody needs to make a supercut of all the utter garbage they did. They'd probably have to clip it up pretty hard towards the end of the run.
