Zakk_Sabbath Posted August 29 Posted August 29 I'll be very honest, I'm co-signing everything @EVAsaid at the top of the page, I'm pretty surprised at the reaction to this match - call me crazy, but this one seems like a no-brainer. Mans brought the house down at Windy City Riot in the same building, it ties right into the Darby stuff (three-way at Grand Slam?), it raises the profile of the TNT title in that IC-Champ-Warrior-v-Hogan kinda way, and it's gonna MAKE Jungle Jack. Seems like nothing but wins to me. Don't get me wrong: I get it from the perspective @Matt Dsort of alluded to before; we've got only so many Dragon matches left, and there are many I'm sure we'd all love to see occur before this one. I could name you 5-10 without even trying, I bet. But, at the same time: I refuse to believe Bryan F'N Danielson has no say in who his opponents are at this juncture. I mention that only to say: I understand the naysaying, I don't begrudge anyone their feelings if they aren't into the booking of this one, but I've got no doubt the end pr0duct is going to make a lot of people wish they weren't so reactionary when this was announced last night. 5
Stefanie Sparkleface Posted August 29 Posted August 29 I think the issue is that people had a laundry list of matches that they wanted to see, and since they aren't getting them, they're mad. It's kinda like when Sting retired and people got mad that he was facing the Young Bucks, even though it was pretty clear that was who he wanted to retire against. I'll even toss you a hot take; I think they're going to get a lot more mileage out of reaping the seeds they've sown by doing Danielson/Perry rather than Danielson/random challenger that might be better to watch in a vacuum. 5 1

WELL SAID. Exactly the kind of thing I was trying to articulate when I wrote that this is gonna make JP. It doesn't exactly line up with the stuff I'd armchair/fantasy book, either - but it's an investment into a guy who could potentially be on top for the next two decades. From a business perspective, that's TOUGH for me to argue with.
SovietShooter Posted August 29 Posted August 29 Put aside the "incident" with Punk... Perry seems like a guy that the high level talent in AEW wants to work with and "make" in the same vein as Hangman Page and Orange Cassidy. Since the company started he has been a "pillar", and he has gone over in feuds with established guys like Jericho and Christian. Before the heel turn, Perry was considered a solid in ring worker that was lacking in charisma. Now he elicits vitriolic responses from some of the smartest fans just by having his name appear on the line up. Danielson clearly wants to work with him. 3 hours ago, hammerva said: While it would suck that the BCC is dead, a faction with others like Josh Barnett and Timothy Thatcher would rule Jon Moxley leading an Inokism Revolution in AEW could be interesting, or go off the rails big time... 5
Cobra Commander Posted August 29 Posted August 29 Guessing that Moxley’s “it’s not your company anymore” stuff pays off quicker than Hangman being effected when he sees children
Steventon Posted August 29 Posted August 29 (edited) I'm on board with Danielson vs Perry. Perry is a good worker, sometimes even very good, and there is plenty of build there with the AE vs Elite stuff, him pinning Danielson, and coming off a win at All In. He's probably the number 2 heel in the company from kayfabe perspective after Max lost his mid card title. Plus no one would buy Danielson losing his first defence anyway so you might as well have a tomato can match. Danielson getting revenge and murdering Jack could be cathartic. No idea where the end goal of the Elite stuff is and if that will cross over with this Moxley angle. Mox felt more heel than face tonight so maybe they slowly push this Elite takeover stuff into the background now. Edited August 29 by Steventon 1
Cobra Commander Posted August 29 Posted August 29 Would it be better or worse than Shane if the Moxley thing ended up being “A private equity firm has invested in AEW and is using Jon Moxley to increase their profits by wrecking the place like it’s a Red Lobster” Also gotta love how some of the more serious crowd heat from Dynamite was Champaignites mad at Mariah May for dissing their hometown 2 1

EVA Posted August 29 Posted August 29 Look, I’ll meet people halfway: I certainly didn’t expect this match either, and I don’t know if I would’ve chosen it to headline a PPV…but Danielson/Jungle Boy was a match I hoped to see at some point, going all the way back when Danielson first signed. This match is going to rule. Zero doubt. 4
Cobra Commander Posted August 29 Posted August 29 the All-In/All-Out thing is like if the WWF did This Tuesday in Texas a week after Survivor Series over and over, but at least they could do hype for SS and TTIT at the same time since SS had elimination matches with feuds that could continue to TTIT I'm sure the impending PPV will be good, but it also requires them operating at Ludicrous speed to build the matches for the 2nd card after the 1st one ends

just drew Posted August 29 Posted August 29 I liked this show. I think I'm a Mariah May fan now. I don't make the rules. The phrase "hotter than doughnut grease" comes to mind. She's really done some fantastic character work, too. Mox is my shit. Excited for what he's gonna do next. If he can get some usage out of Marina Shafir, so much the better. It's crazy how much the distance from Adam Cole has helped KOR. Putting him around interesting people like Mark Briscoe has made him so much more eye-grabbing in my opinion. I hope Daniel Garcia has decided to stay long term. I think his ceiling is much higher in AEW. I don't think you can afford to lose him and Starks, and I think Starks is gone. I get a kick out of MJF. I know he's ridiculous and stupid and over the top, but I love it. I love every second of it. I thought Ricochet under-delivered a bit. I think it was here where someone said that he went out and had a Smackdown match, and I agree. It wasn't bad, I just think it's going to take him time to break some habits that he's gotten into. I am also now a Jamie Hayter fan, even with her Temu Becky Lynch look that she has going. I will not be taking questions at this time. 3

Technico Support Posted August 29 Posted August 29 (edited) I don’t know why anyone would rather see Christian face Danielson first. Christian was already Swerve’s first challenger and it was “post Mania 20, Kane as Benoit’s first challenger at Backlash” levels of apathy. I know TK likes Christian but at this point, leading a midcard stable is right where about where he should be. Making a guy whose first run started when Bill Clinton was still president your world title contender not once but twice is insane. Maybe it’s just me but I could not care less about Christian. Like I already don’t give two shits about Copeland, why would I care about his lesser pal? Edited August 29 by Technico Support 1 2
Firebreaker Chip Posted August 29 Posted August 29 Danielson-Perry should 100% go on last, and they should do a long, moving video package about Bryan's storied career which could be about to end, and then he should win and they should also do that again for his next defense against Iron Savage #2, and for all his subsequent defenses 3

EVA Posted August 29 Posted August 29 They’re in a tough spot with Christian right now, because they were clearly going to do the Edge & Christian reunion at Wembley, but with Edge injured, they’re in a weird spot of having to keep Christian strong in the meantime, while simultaneously not having him factored into anything too significant long-term. 1

Craig H Posted August 29 Posted August 29 I'm looking forward to Christian inevitably losing to Danielson and bringing back his awesome temper tantrum when losing, slapping Luchasaurus, and then getting chokeslammed. 3

Those two definitely have a better match in them, but I remember it being quite good. 3
JLowe Posted August 29 Posted August 29 Hi guys! Been away for a few days, thinking I could avoid All In spoilers and watch a replay before Dynamite, but I could not make that happen so I watched Dynamite and learned most, but not all of the results. Anyway, having another PPV two weeks after a huge one results in this uneven, very WWE feeling show. Mox thing was confusing, out of nowhere, and topped off with reintroduction of a still sloppy, dangerous Marina Shafir. Why? Conglomeration, yay! Hook, meh. Hangman-Ishii was fun but, dare it say it, a little long for what it was. Lots of filler in the middle. The aftermath with Swerve was good stuff and actually sold me on that part of the PPV. MJF was more to the point and back to his old self. Garcia’s sneak attack was aces, his promo was hit and miss. I can’t recall what had PAC jump Ospreay, but meh. I had Hayter’s return spoiled, but not her new look. She’s thinner, less bulk muscle, and oddly looks shorter. Harley showed that she’s still very green, imagine Hayter-Saraya will be better than that at least. Mone’s party looked cheap and was bad WWE shit. She only had the NJPW Strong belt, but she was celebrating a win? Was she wearing the TBS? They’re not dumb enough to have Britt when at All In, right? Learning Tree with Roderick Strong was random. The 8-man was fine, Bill and Keith are getting over. Hook can’t do anything but throws, but it is impressive seeing him T-bone Bill. I honestly don’t remember who won, and I do not care a whit about The Kingdom at this point. Bryan! Great speech! Jack Perry? No, just no. Not at all. It’s Ricochet! I have no idea who he is but he’s been around a long time and is flippy like Ospreay and Dante. It’s Kyle Fletcher, here for another job where he bumps and catches! Was it a good match? Sure. Was it amazing and something we don’t regularly see? Eh. Hoping we get Takeshita back soon. 5 1
