Casey Posted August 29 Posted August 29 They had me in the first 120 minutes, not gonna lie, then they had to go and fuck it up by making JACK PERRY be Danielson’s first challenger. Look, I know, most biased person here, and I’ve said this before, but once again - he owes everything he has in this current run to Punk. Like, holy shit. It feels forced at this point. The crowd DID NOT care. 2 2

The Natural Posted August 29 Posted August 29 Jack Perry is in a prominent position overpushed and underserved. Feels like it's come about from the notoriety of his backstage fight with CM Punk at All In 2023. He's getting pushed at the level he's not at. 1

I was so enthralled ALL fucking episode, then the video lit up and it was palpable excitement until......Perry. 4

The Natural Posted August 29 Posted August 29 Y'all know how I love Bryan Danielson and I try to be positive about wrestling and away from but I'm super bummed out his first challenger is fucking Jack Perry. Jesus Christ. 1

For Great Justice Posted August 29 Posted August 29 I am intrigued by Mox’s rendition of Scott Hall’s speech after interrupting Nitro and I’m curious where that goes
The Natural Posted August 29 Posted August 29 (edited) Shows you how important an ending is as that's the last thing you remember. I really enjoyed this show till then. Edited August 29 by The Natural
Infinit Posted August 29 Posted August 29 Pretty good reset and build to All Out! Really intrigued about where they are going with Mox Okada talking about LIQUID COURAGE made me HOWL I've said it here before, I fucking love how Hangman has evolved. Him and Swerve are gonna have another banger. Great seeing Jamie Hayter back. I really think my boy DG and Max and gonna make some magic at All Out. I hope it's more brawl than wrestling match. 2

Kevin Wilson Posted August 29 Posted August 29 If it makes the anti-Perry feel any better (which seems to be all of you), this isn't a real defense. Its a 10 day build-up for a match that may or may not have a real ending but rather set up something else. I am guessing Mox is going to turn on Danielson sooner or later and they just picked a heel out of a hat they could plug in for a quick B Level defense to get to the real story which will be Mox/Darby/Danielson. Beyond that, since no one else is talking about it, I thought Ricochet/Fletcher and Ishii/Hangman were really good. A story-heavy show since they have a PPV to set up in ten days but at least they gave two good matches among it all so no complaints from me. 6
Gordi the recovering AEW f Posted August 29 Posted August 29 (edited) Way to Bungle Joy, AEW! Look at all these disappointed faces. I figure it's just because Bryan's first defence will draw no matter who the challenger is. And for sure they are quickly building a very compelling show to support the main event anticlimax. Plus: OBVIOUSLY Bryan is gonna give us The Best Jungle Boy Match Ever. Anyhoo: Excellent show over all. AEW on quite the roll at the moment. Grit... Your... TEETH is a delightfully weird catchphrase! Hangman vs Ishii felt like a gift to me and to my specific brand of "sicko" specifically. Hot dang, did I enjoy that slugfesr! And they gave them adequate time, too! Plus, and I cannot overstate how happy this makes me, they FINALLY stopped calling him Ishii-EE (The (double) ii means a slightly longer "i" sound, not a whole extra syllable and DEFINITELY not and emphasized extra syllable. It's been driving me nuts for YEARS. Ex apparently couldn't help himself, and Taz(z) went back and forth on it... But still. Overjoyed. Edit: I really want one more Bryan vs Kingston match. Either Kingston, really. Edited August 29 by Gordi the recovering AEW f 5
Nice Guy Eddie Posted August 29 Posted August 29 The only positive to Jungle Boy being Danielson's first challenger is getting it out of the way quickly. Other than that, I really enjoyed tonight's show. I'm interested to see where they're going with Moxley and having Marina Shafir by his side is an interesting choice. 3

Ramo2653 Posted August 29 Posted August 29 I can't wait to see how they weave Mox returning with Marina, PAC/Claudio/Yuta was 6 man champs and then Dragon as world champ. I get the BCC isn't the most "we all have to stay together all the time" group, but this could be fun. Might as well just get the first defense out of the way for Dragon eh? It's throwing me off that All Out isn't this coming Sunday but next. I might check out the Milwaukee show next week if there's a drop in the ticket prices. Swerve somehow talked his way into making sense about stalking a man at his house. Nana's focused dance was hilarious. Big Bill is great, I'd love to get Dragon vs. Bill in a singles again after that awful WWE match years ago. And while Mariah did the lazy town insult thing, it was still fun. 2
Greggulator Posted August 29 Posted August 29 That Poison Rana or whatever it’s called from PAC to Will was nasty and awesome. Mariah May rules. Mox’s new thing is really intriguing. Danielson’s going to get the win over Jungle Boy but he’s going to go all out in making Perry’s career. Either Perry hits it out of the park as a scumbag opportunist in this match or he doesn’t and ends up as a mid-carder. Fun show 6

I was going to say basically the same thing, but decided to scrap it because Jack Perry isn't worth it. It should have been Christian as Danielson's first challenger. Christian winning the title shot was underwhelming enough, but he's a totally decent heel to have a quick two week program with. Perry is even more underwhelming than him, so I wonder if Christian cashes in mid-match to make this somewhat interesting. I wasn't as high on Danielson/Swerve as everyone else, mainly because the melodrama was built around the retirement stipulation when it was obvious Danielson was winning, but it was a great match in a vaccuum and this is going to be something in the opposite direction Swerve and Hangman had a segment with some actual omph to it, even though I can't figure out if there's a heel or a face here. Mariah did a gender swapped Rick Rude promo Ricochet's match was good and while I've always liked his work I don't think AEW really needs him with everyone else they have, although there will undoubtedly be some good matches to come. 1
The Natural Posted August 29 Posted August 29 03:36 UK time so going to try and get back to sleep. Cheers.

I was wondering something. If the Lucha Bros are leaving, is Ricochet basically Fenix's replacement? A high flying, absurdly athletic guy who you can give a title to and no one will question it? 1 1
SirFozzie Posted August 29 Posted August 29 Honestly, I get why, storyline wise why you'd give Perry the shot. He holds the #2 belt in AEW, and did what no one else had done in AEW's history (beat Darby Allin in a coffin match). If he doesn't get a title shot now, when? (And yes, I'd rather see several other people get the shot)
Zimbra Posted August 29 Posted August 29 I don't mind the Perry thing. He's not the most interesting choice but he will get heat in Chicago for sure and no one cares if he eats a loss. I want to believe that they're finally doing Stop The Moxley. Don't let me down again, TK. 8 1
