General Music Discussion Catch-All

RIPPA

I realize I’m firmly in the minority here (only person?) that likes Linkin Park. One of two bands in my teenage years that I really latched onto (the other being NIN). When Chester died, I was heartbroken. Wasn’t a huge fan of their latest material at that time, but still.

They announced a new singer today, Emily Armstrong from Dead Sara (also Rob isn't coming back on drums). She’s got the screaming chops, but live anyway, her clean vocals just aren’t doing it - there’s a livestream of them on the Warner Bros lot doing a free concert right now on YouTube. It’s fine, I mainly care about how it sounds on an album anyway, I’ll never see them live unless they’re at Bonnaroo (which I doubt).

My real issue is that she’s a Scientologist and actively defends Danny Masterson. That’s gross. I thought Shinoda & Co would look at things like that too, but it is what it is I guess. I’m just a fan, can’t do much about it besides vote with my wallet.

Hybrid Theory was a staple of my cd player for a couple years back then. Meteora seemed good, but never resonated with me. Dug the hell out of the Jay-Z collab album.

I actually prefer Meteora to Hybrid Theory, but that might be because that’s when I really jumped into the fandom. Minutes to Midnight is my other favorite.

Fun story, I actually won a piece of of the set from the What I’ve Done video (some fake rock signed by the band) from their unofficially official message board, the LPA, by writing an essay about how the From the Inside video and song were actually about Reagan and the Iran Contras and the Cold War. I was a high as fuck, fresh out of high school kid and I was just fucking around. I wish I could still find it, it’s somewhere on their boards I’m sure. I ended up selling that piece back to one of the moderators of the site for like $200.

My buddy who runs Bunker Punks Discs and Tapes sends his stuff reading "NUCLEAR ARMS AND VINYL RECORDS". I always wondered if I get flagged by some gov't. agency for that haha. At least Nuclear War Now! hides the name under NWN! Productions on their labels.

There is also a band named Fentanyl and Jesus H. Christ man. I mean, it's dark as fuck and punk but that's just kinda nasty and wrong.

First two Sabbath albums came out in 1970 and Jim dies in 71, either that or its the version of the Doors that continued after his death (did you know there are non retrospective albums that the Doors released after Jim died?)

Whew, with all I know about the Doors, I DID NOT know about that somehow. That's insane.

*looks up Wiki* Well, it's not that bad I guess? They didn't hire anyone else; a lot of the songs were written while he was in the band. Iggy in the Doors would have been pretty perfect though, considering he was influenced by Jim directly to be a singer... and his name is Jim, too. The Eddie Vedder idea wasn't a bad one either. But if they'd just pulled some yokel up there to imitate Jim Morrison then you could have had permission to puke directly on your shoes (as DEAN would say).

The two post-Jim albums aren't great but the second one has one, Full Circle, has cool cover art.

so which musicians would step into the void if radio stations still playing 90s Bad Boy tracks decide to play a little bit less P Diddy for the next few months... okay if you're playing Puff Daddy tracks in 2024, you're probably gonna play more R Kelly if you play less Puffy

Who could've possibly imagined that a guy whose entire career was built on leeching off far more talented people (including his dead friend whose corpse he milked for all it was worth) was in fact a really bad guy?

I feel like the only radio stations that would play Diddy songs in 2024 (even before the arrest and various stories) are pop ones, so you’d have to come up with suitable replacements for those types of stations. As much as I love DMX and the Wu, I don’t think they’ll replace Bad Boy for Life or I’ll Be Missing You with Ryde or Die or CREAM, y’know?

No but Party Up is right there. Ruff Ryders Anthem was all over my local pop station and gets play on Throwback Thursday. Wu-Tang might be harder.

I guess anybody still playing "I'll Be Missing You" will just need to replace it with "Every Step You Take"
