Dolfan in NYC
Pavement just got their first ever RIAA certified gold record. https://www.stereogum.com/2105993/pavement-harness-your-hopes-spotify/columns/sounding-board/ Short version, for some reason during the pandemic Spotify pushed a B-side of theirs from ~25 years ago. Zoomers liked it, added it to their TikToks and ... Profit? This is apparently how you chart in 2024. 1
odessasteps
Paul o’Brien on the House to Astomish blog posts the UK charts every week and apart from the usual Taylor Swift/Ed Sheeran candidates, you do get some weird songs placing these days, thanks to random events getting them a ton of downloads. Curt McGirt
I wanted to walk up to a guy working with me wearing a Ghost shirt and ask "hey, how weird is it that the guy from Repugnant sings in Ghost now?" Just to see if he had any idea what I was talking about. 1
RazorbladeKiss87
I've seen a lot of cute girls wearing metal looking shirts lately only to realize they're Ghost shirts. Of course, I can't talk too much shit. I still have a username referencing a HIM song in 2024.

Curt McGirt
If I started a punk/hardcore punk thread on here, would anyone actually read it and/or use it? Because I come across so many new bands it's ridiculous. All of them are varying but usually solid quality, and they're all hardcore punk that would probably appeal to the metal fans on here or just anyone who likes harsh sounds. It may make some actual followers of current scenes, even. Of course I wouldn't be averse to anyone's posting, like if they want to put their new finds or the new Fat Mike's Personal Taste record on there or whatever, that'd be fine. Psychobilly, post-punk, New Wave, synth stuff, power-pop, old stuff, whatever. But if it'd be a waste of space... Curt McGirt
Here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnX600t0c7I The last will and testament. I'm sure people will make a lot about the death references, like they were intentional or prescient or whatever. Gah.

sabremike
https://www.cbc.ca/arts/commotion/burton-cummings-tells-us-why-he-pulled-the-performance-rights-for-the-guess-who-s-songs-1.7188520 One of the wildest stories in a long time: Burton Cummings (along with Randy Bachman, the other key member of the band) has not been happy with the fact one of the former members of The Guess Who got the rights to the name years back and has essentially toured presenting themselves as the actual band when they were essentially a cover band pulling a ruse on the public. So he just pulled the nuclear option of pulling the performance rights to his songs, meaning nobody can legally perform them. If you have tickets to any upcoming fake Guess Who shows refunds will be available at the point of purchase.
