The Olympics

I heard someone explain the boxing mess on a pod last week. I guess some countries are now part of some new World Boxing group (Europe, Canada, …) while everyone else is still part of the IBA group that has done a lot of the dumb stuff in recent years. And the IOC is fed up with the IBA.

As much as I don’t dig boxing, it’s a hallmark of the Olympics along with Track, Swimming and Gymnastics.

I feel like there are a lot of 44 year-old’s out there that could do Raygun’s routine. Age may not be much of an impediment, I’m no expert on breaking, but Raygun looked to me to be performing at a much lower level than the other competitors I saw.

With a couple of exceptions (mainly the situations happening in their home countries), most of the competitors on the b-girls side were in the upper ranks of the World Championships held in 2023. Raygun and her main competitor, Holy Molly are way down there. I've seen stuff online that say it should have been Holy Molly but either way, Australia was going to get smoked. At least this way it was memorable, I suppose.

I kind of feel bad for Raygun with how much people are making fun of her.  She knew she was outclassed despite qualifying to get there and tried to approach things a different way.  I'm not saying it was good but from what I saw she still stands by her decisions so credit to her on that one.  The thing that stinks is when some think about the event she's all they think about and not the incredible dancing going on throughout the whole thing.  I even heard commentary talk about flashy moves compared to moves that have meaning (men's US vs Australia round in the round robin) and the way it sounded you could close your eyes and think they were talking about wrestling.  Was definitely worth a giggle or two.

As for the Olympics itself I enjoyed it a lot.  The opening was uniquely France and is my favorite all-time opening.  The events were fun to watch and the crowd reactions made it all-the-more memorable (Teddy Riner's judo win was electrifying)  I'm kind of sad it's over but there was a lot of cool shit going on.

There's a Eurosport piece of art that has memorable moments from the Olympics that has gotten criticism online because it completely ignored the Chinese and Japanese teams (the only Asian is Kim Yeji, the Korean shooting gold medalist who went viral) but does have Raygun.

Imane Khelif, now unburdened by trying to win her gold medal, has decided to sue....  pretty much everyone for calling her a man.

Good on her for all it's worth.

It'd be great to see her take some chuds down a peg.

But I have little faith in any system of justice these days.

So many to sue. Love for Imane Khelif to sue Piers Morgan. Horrible human being.

So far the three people that are involved in her suit is Elon Musk, Jk Rowling (explains why she has been quiet all of the sudden), and Logan Paul.   While Elon will probably just buy his way out of it and Logan at least can give the flimsy excuse with that half assed "OOPSIE" post afterward,  the Rowling one can definitely get some steam

It is funny and totally not surprising that people are sure committed on their beliefs against people they don't like until they have to financially stake their claim over it.   The social media empty bins are flooded with Olympic talk from people who have no idea how 'deleting" social media works

I don't know how realistic it is that she'd win as these court proceedings can take forever, they can claim they didn't know it was false and was going off something else, etc. etc. but anything that makes it stay in the news a bit longer and hopefully get some type of apology out of any of them would be nice. Even if she only gets some type of moral victory in the end of it, hopefully it will make people think twice next time. Don't forget that Elon Musk won the case against the man he called a "pedo guy" with absolutely no basis or truth to it, winning defamation cases is hard but she deserves something for what she went through.

The diver case was in the US though. She's filing this in France. And Elon didn't own his own social media platform at the time. And he's already in hot water with the British government over misinformation.

Quote

The lawsuit was filed against X, which under French law means that it was filed against unknown persons. That “ensure[s] that the ‘prosecution has all the latitude to be able to investigate against all people,” including those who may have written hateful messages under pseudonyms, said Boudi. The complaint nevertheless mentions famously controversial figures.

“J. K. Rowling and Elon Musk are named in the lawsuit, among others,” he said, adding that Donald Trump would be part of the investigation. “Trump tweeted, so whether or not he is named in our lawsuit, he will inevitably be looked into as part of the prosecution.”

I'm just of the opinion that rich people stay in trouble but get out of trouble much easier than us normies do, regardless of the situation. And its the type of case that Musk can probably delay eternally if he chose to. But I'm still glad she is doing it as even though I don't think they'll face any repercussions it may help others understand why it was wrong.

Apparently it's made Rowling not tweet for the last week or so, so she's already won IMO.

I just had a good chuckle imagining a gymnastic equestrian event.  Seeing a gymnast doing that while the horse is jumping over fences would make me want to for once check out an equestrian event.

Lol, I’m sure it has nothing at all to do with all Twitter users who routinely threaten to murder her and her kids, preferably after skinning them all alive and raping them. Apparently she gets a lot of that.  Daily.  Hey, can someone remind me when that became ok? I must have been busy that day and didn’t get the memo.

Can you quote anyone here saying that is ok, or was that just a rhetorical question? A little suspicious when someone pulls out a giant strawman barely somewhat related to the topic (although not really). Maybe the memo is your mailbox in "Imagination Land" where that question came from.

Rhetorical question.  No idea if anyone here says that.  Probably not  Rowling apparently gets those sorts of threats daily though.  Very gross, but that’s Twitter for you.

And I'm sure she finally reached her breaking point on that after multiple years and her sudden Twitter silence has nothing to do with her putting her foot into her bigoted mouth and is now facing possible legal consequences. Just a complete coincidence of timing.

That was remarkably specific for someone claiming unfamiliarity with a what is stated to be everyday occurrence.

Not really.  I look at her Twitter once in a while and I read an article online,  I don’t know much more than that.  Not much of a Harry Potter fan, though I did attend a couple talks she gave before Harry Potter blew up.

Not to be crass but JK Rowling is rich enough to afford protection, unlike the boxers at the Olympics that she pointed her keyboard at and tried to cast "transphobius!" at.

Anyway, clearly, the only solution to all this is for Elon Musk to have to box Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-Ting in a triple threat match.
