Death From Above
Gonna be honest I'm having a hard time getting into the Olympics this time but it's still very cool to see Canadian women winnin medals, while the boys sit around with their thumbs up their butts as usual lmao. I swear if the olympics were women only Canada would be top
Dolfan in NYC
I'd forgotten how annoying Mary Carillo is on commentary. You'd think Djokovic farted sunshine and Rafael Nadal had never picked up a racket before. Plus she had no idea how to react to Djokovic playing heel to the crowd. And that they DARED to boo him. tbarrie
5 hours ago, Death From Above said: I swear if the olympics were women only Canada would be top 5 Well, here's the current top ten by total medals won: 1. United States - 20 2. France - 16 3. Japan - 12 4. China - 12 5. Great Britain - 10 6. Australia - 9 7. Korea - 9 8. Italy - 8 9. Canada - 5 10. Hong Kong - 3 If we go through and count medals in women's events for each of those ten, we get this: 1. United States - 11 2. France - 7 3. Australia - 6 4. China - 6 5. Korea - 5 6. Japan - 4 6. Canada - 4 8. Great Britain - 3 9. Hong Kong - 2 10. Italy - 0 So we move up, but not quite into the top five. But all this was counted by hand, so it's entirely likely I've made a mistake. lostinube
20 hours ago, Robert S said: Speaking of Skateboarding, they should introduce / raise the minimum age for participants. The average age in the "women's" finals was something like 16 years. Gold went to a 14-year-old, silver to a 15-year-old and bronze to a 16-year-old. The winners in 2020 were 13, 13 and 16. Rayssa Leal is a two-time Olympic medalist at the age of 16. One of the skaters on the men's side for Japan is 13 but I don't think people will make as much of a fuss about it if he wins a medal. Jagger Eaton turned pro at 11 but there weren't any Olympic skateboarding events back then. If anything, it's partially due to the X Games. One of the winners at this year's X Games is a 9-year-old from Australia. The X Games "youngest ever" in skateboarding has been going down almost every year. NikoBaltimore
US women's rugby just had a helluva finish. They were down five with seconds left in regulation when Cedric ran 85% of the field to the end. Poor Australia went from happiness to utter despair, especially after it was converted for the US win. Might have been for bronze but that was wild. Fighting a man with a perm
Daniel! Wiffen! clap clap clap clap clap! Great start to the games for Ireland and with our rowers looking strong, Kellie Harrington 1 fight from a medal, Rhys McClenaghan a good shout on the pommel horse, Adeleke and Mageean possibilities for a rare athletics medal plus Wiffen and McSharry to swim again we could beat our London haul. Hoping to hear Amhran na bhFiann at least twice more, c'mon Ireland!
NikoBaltimore
Hey, a Greek won a medal in Judo! Fuck yeah! Granted, Tselidis didn't have a chance against Bekauri or Sanshiro in the 90kg finals. But he got bronze and again fuck yeah! Also, Maxome Gael Ngayap Hambou might have gotten bronze and a bit outclassed by Sanshiro. But that guy is a superstar and has made things exciting when his matches were on. Bekauri also has shittons of charisma but considering this was his second gold he has a right to let loose the way he has been.

Brian Fowler
Since I didn't see it mentioned in the discussion about age and skateboarding, gymnastics did change the rules a few years back so you have to be at least 16 to compete.
madl
Didn’t know 3x3 basketball was an Olympic sport until I turned it on this morning. Kinda wondering why it’s an Olympic sport, but then again, I’m annoyed they dropped the men’s 50 km racewalk from this Olympics, so… I am wondering why US 3x3 team isn’t first three pros left off the other men’s basketball team. You have to play in a certain amount of sanctioned 3x3 events to qualify for the Olympics, assuming those conflict with the NBA, G League and NCAA seasons.

Cobra Commander
The takedown at 1:17 here looks like it could be a neat move if done in wrestling https://youtu.be/r12LV56JHh0?si=hS1jhQBnjLBNzDjI the finish was a bit screwjobby, at least to the fans of the guy who lost
hammerva
Not sure there is another sport where the difference between winning and losing is so small then fencing. Well sports that don't involve judges decisions. Almost every action needs to be show on super slow mo.

Help me out here. Don’t know the rules and the commentators didn’t really explain it. Did the guy who lost drop down, and the judge called it a takedown? The Georgian lost for being penalized too many times, the final time I think was a situation where he was dropping down to try and avoid an attack and waste time until the end?

hammerva
Didn't know you can have rain delays in beach volleyball. although I think there was lightning. I would think playing in wet sand would just suck Jesus those waves in the surfing competition
Cobra Commander
yeah could you believe the surfing had 2 days of postponements due to having dangerous waves? anyways... someone is pitching mud volleyball and that person is mad that the women are wearing pants in beach volleyball now
odessasteps
I was going to say a segment of the audience probably would like to see beach volleyball players (of both genders) competing in the rain.

Correct & the qualifying period for 3x3 was March-May, so to conflicted with end of regular seasons, beginning of NBA playoffs, & all of NCAA tourneys. US men are 0-2 & US women are 0-3, so I won’t be surprised if they find some ways to get a few pros on team next Olympics. Shame there’s no 50K racewalk. I’ve done a couple racewalking events over the years. I’m more into marathons and triathlons, but racewalking is close enough to my wheelhouse that I get interested every so often. Also,, yeah, the beach volleyball event was delayed due to lightning, not rain. 70 min rain delay, and skies still looked threatening when they resumed, so they only let players, event staff & LeBron James (?) back in and sent spectators home.
