MOVIE COMMENT CATCH-ALL THREAD

So sort of by accident I went on a Scorsese binge this weekend. I rewatched Goodfellas and finally started to enjoy the film. In the past I never cared for the fact that the movie jumps around from spot to spot throughout nearly the entire movie. I've watched this movie before and felt like I was watching a 2 hour opening montage of a film where they go through a lot of events and happenings from different points of time very rapidly just to give you a slight idea of the world you're dealing in. Although I still feel this way the story is very compelling.

I always saw Goodfellas as a bunch of scenes/segments obviously linked together, but capable of standing out on their own too. Goodfellas is one of those films where I can watch one scene and feel pretty fulfilled and not have to see anymore. Each part tells its own little story. It's disjointed, and doesn't really feel "whole"  like you say, but in a good way.

Have we talked about Stoker yet?  Because that was a pretty dark and entertaining little tour-de-force?  I mean, who knew Mia Wasikowska had that kind of performance in her?  Great music, like getting Philip Glass to write a piano duet for the movie that plays like a fight between two characters and turns into a love scene?!  And the best credits I've seen this year!  Really loved this, did anyone else see it?

As if The Natural needed a reason for the one person he hates.

Thanks for this. What a twat.

The Natural:  What have I been saying for all these years?  You can't trust that guy!

Heenan and Hogan, Natural and LeBeouf.  :)

One of my favourite posts in all the years I've posted here. Brilliant. I'll like it when I have them again.

Yes. Loved it. Was a bitch trying to find it in a cinema though. 12 screens in a multiplex and they can't fit it in?

I liked STOKER. Just the right mix of creepy and ridiculous. I'm interested to see what else Park Chan-Wook can do in Hollywood.

It's worth mentioning that the script was written by Wentworth Miller, who was Michael Scofield on Prison Break.

I saw that!  Truly bizarre.

Sadly, the post-sketch standup bit isn't on there where they continue:

ETHAN FROME, BOYEEE...THAT IS MY SHIT..

You Don't MESS with me until you're down with HUSBANDS AND WIVES...THAT IS THE JAM!!!

Note: When I first saw the "ALL THINGS TOLKIEN" thread, I swear..based on board preferences I thought it said "ALL THINGS TAKEN" and was only surprised it wasn't more pages long.

Phil Spector: Yeah, the main issue is that this whole movie is basically an argument for the innocence of a guy who was pretty clearly guilty. The idea we should think Spector got a raw deal because he was famous, despite the fact he could spend millions more on his defense than any poor person ever could, is kinda laughable. Mamet seemed to go into this whole thing with a fairly elitist, snobby attitude.

Pacino is...good, I guess? Sometimes he seems to verge on parody. Mirren is probably the best thing in it. Also, George Bluth Sr.

Phil Spector was a real disappointment after You Don't Know Jack (not to mention Behind the Candelabra). I think HBO regained their footing a bit with the Ali docudrama but you can't put that group of actors together without getting something right.

Just watched The Long Kiss Goodnight and fucking LOVED it. So ridiculously OTT but at the same time... wow. Why does Harlin not get more work? Shane Black is writing and directing long after this. Renny should be the go-to guy for any of these insane summer action flicks. I know he's doing the Hercules flick coming out but fuck that, he should be doing what Michael Bay does, only ten times better.

Also, I just checked Wiki to see what the hell Geena Davis has been up to after she fell off the face of the earth film-wise after this, and it's pretty awesome. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geena_Davis Three kids in her mid-forties... damn.

She's 57.

Damn you scared me for a second.  She was way older than me when I was a kid. I hate it when I somehow catch up to people.

I'm sure they're very happy together and all, but as far as their careers go, worst thing that ever happened to Brad and Angelina may have been each other.

I remember it was something Justin Theroux said about actors losing their mystique and getting over exposed. Why bother paying $10 to see someone who you see everywhere anyway? They're both doing fine work, but I'm pretty tired of them. And I was a big fan of Jolie in the late '90s when she first broke out.

I re watched The Dark Knight Rises for the first time in about a year. The hardest thing I've done in life is sit there in the movie theater of the midnight release of this movie and admit that I was bored out of my fucking mind. I re watched it about five different times because the Original Bane scene is great, every single long running piece of dialogue Cain gets in this movie is absolutely amazing. Every movie he gets one piece of dialogue to really put things in perspective in for Wayne and all through this movie he's awesome. Hathaway does an excellent job as well and maybe then of course the Talia reveal is awesome even if the fight scene with Bane is dull as fuck. Bane went from a bad ass to just getting pounded by Batman. Their final fight scene could have been so much better. Then of course the chase scene with Talia is boring. Things pick up for good when he picks up the bomb. The plot is so convoluted its hard to take it seriously at all which wouldn't be a problem if this was Batman Forever but after the previous two entries I expected a better plot. They introduce SO many new characters for this being the final movie in the plot and Bruce spends much of the movie moping or laying in a cave somewhere while the movie tells us about Bane about and hour and a half into the movie only to "swerve" us anyway and REtell us about Bane in another 45 minutes. Its not a bad movie and the ending is about as perfect as you can get but I'm not going to watch two hours for ten minutes I think I've watched this one for the final time, while five years later I still watch The Dark Knight ever six months or so.

I also watched I think I love my Wife. I remembered years ago seeing a preview and thinking it could be interesting in a quirky way. Some really good funny men have done some really good dramadies. Ferrell, Sandler, Carey, etc. This movie wasn't bad the plot just never moves forward AT ALL. Fifteen minutes into the movie we establish he's married, he loves his wife and family but he's bored as fuck and living in a sexless marriage. Within a half hour we meet the hot girl and then we spend about another hour and a half while the plot doesn't move forward AT ALL until in the last ten minutes he finally gets a chance to fuck her, bails, goes home and they live happily ever after.
