Curt McGirt
That just made me think of what we would get if someone did an Elric of Melnibone movie (which has been tried) and how much I'd probably hate it. EDIT: Well, unless it was animated by Michael Whelan.
J.T.
Weird of the White Wolf has been on the table for years and Elric is a bit of a dick so I am not sure he'd be sympathetic enough of a protagonist to carry a motion picture trilogy. Besides, Game of Thrones has broken the mold on that sort of thing. I think MM's books would get better traction as a mini-series on HBO or something so long as it had really good production values. ArtVanderlay
NPR's Bob Mondello talked about seeing The Danish Girl and came away pretty disappointed. His basic gist was that he thought he was going to see a powerful drama about LGBT issues in post-WWI Europe and instead saw a Merchant & Ivory cotume porn drama in the Roaring Twenties, with a main character who just happened to be transgender. Ligerbusa
He doesn't need their permission, he can go anywhere. Remember, WB had to buy in to produce Interstellar. Who said he needed permission? The thing is...all of his movies save for one have been with Warner Bros. You would assume since his next movie is with Warner Bros that he would like to continue his relationship with them. They are a ton of directors who can go anywhere, but they choose to stay with one studio/distributor (ex. Tarantino directing for the Weinsteins, Ridley Scott and 20th Century Fox, etc). But Interstellar wasn't supposed to be with Warner Bros. You said "do us a solid and you can do your Oscar movie", he can do his Oscar movie with another studio if he wants to. Elsalvajeloco
Except Interstellar ended up with WB and his next movie is with WB. I don't think this is just some odd coincidence. Did Kevin Tsujihara accost one of your family members? Just let it go, Ligerbusa.

Jiji
Why do they keep remaking '80s movies? I think I remember FiveThirtyEight going into detail about how those generally fail financially (and certainly critically). "OI AM UHN EFF BEE OI EEEEHGENT!" is like the best. Fuck off with this shit. That Bodie has none of Swayze's physical or charismatic magnetism.

To be fair, I don't think they're going after anyone who loved the Bigelow version based off this new trailer. I think they're going after the meathead demo that pad out the Fast and Furious franchise BO numbers. It didn't work for Need for Speed, but hey, that's not going to stop anyone from trying again. But yeah, I agree on the Bodie part. Edgar Ramirez isn't a bad actor (at least from what I've saw), but boy he could be casted better. He is in another doomed role playing Roberto Duran in another movie. It would be good pick except he looks like every Hispanic boxer not named Roberto Duran. Fat and old Roberto Duran in the mid-1990s, yes. Circa 1972? No. I am disappointed they didn't try to get Gael Garcia Bernal back. That was an easy layup, and they couldn't get that right. I have no expectations that movie will be any good.
(BP)
The Fast and the Furious was already the best possible Point Break remake anyway.
Jiji
The only thing even remotely interesting is with how more transparent corruption is these days, it's easier to blur the lines between right and wrong with Utah's moral predicament and Bodhi's actions. Stennick
I don't really mind remakes if they want to make them thats fine with me. Some of them I'll see some of them I won't. It doesn't detract from the previous version of the movie. I always enjoy new ideas on familiar stories. I'm weird though I thought Dredd was really boring. While I liked Planet of the Apes the Burton version.
Curt McGirt
At this point I'm wondering what they haven't remade from the '80s/early '90s that ruled my childhood. The Lost Boys? The Goonies? (oh shit I better stop talking they're probably watching) By the way, watching The Goonies with a ton of kids and nostalgic adults in a parking lot recently was one of the best things ever. AxB
A few years ago, my son's big sisters really wanted to watch Pan's Labyrinth because they thought it was a remake of Labyrinth. Luckily they were old enough that it didn't scar their minds for life. One of them has this: tattooed on her leg now. I still think of her as an eight year old, and she looks like one of them suicide girls.

J.T.
Man that looks bad but I will probably end up going to see it anyway and it will turn out to be a Fast / Furious so stupid it is awesome kinda thing.
