Zimbra Posted February 16, 2020 Posted February 16, 2020 Did Ron Waterman ever end up on TV at all or was he strictly a dark match guy?

NWA @ Charlottesville, VA - October 7, 1990 (3,400) The Master Blasters defeated Mike Rotunda & Tim Horner Ricky Morton & Terry Taylor (sub. for Robert Gibson) (w/ Steve Travis) defeated Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane after Travis hit an interfering Jim Cornette, with Taylor then hitting Lane with Cornette's tennis racquet NWA World Champion Sting defeated the Black Scorpion NWA World Champion Sting (sub. for NWA Tag Team Champion Butch Reed, whose father was in the ICU) & NWA Tag Team Champion Ron Simmons defeated Ric Flair & Arn Anderson when Sting pinned Flair I was actually at the Charlottesville show. I remember someone threw some candy or something into the ring and it hit Bobby in the face. They had to stop for a minute b/c I think he had something in his eye. Luckily he was ok and they found the idiot who did it and threw him out of the building. Had it been Louisiana or somewhere in the Mid-South territory back in the day, he would've probably have been escorted to the back to have a "talk" with one of the wrestlers. 1
cwoy2j Posted February 17, 2020 Posted February 17, 2020 And I wanna say that Al Perez played the Black Scorpion that night. WIki says that Angel of Death or Jeff Ellis was the one doing the house shows but I thought it was Perez that night just because of the way he moved. I've never seen Jeff Ellis but IIRC, the guy I saw was too small to be AOD. Keep in mind this was 30 years ago and I was only 11 so I could be wrong but I thought it was Perez.
Tromatagon Posted February 18, 2020 Posted February 18, 2020 I can't seem to find shit on Jeff Ellis - was he the fat Scorpion?

EDIT: The Black Scorpion! I had never actually “seen” The Black Scorpion because we didn’t have cable growing up and he was always in the dark in promos. Edited February 19, 2020 by BloodyChamp

The Scorpion? That’s the only 1 I don’t get if it’s not him. Black Scorpion makes the most sense. is Halloween Havoc Windham as Sting on there? Couldn’t tell.
BloodyChamp Posted February 19, 2020 Posted February 19, 2020 (edited) Yep...guy on Twitter responded actually. He has a ton of cool art btw. I don’t see Barry Sting off the top of my head. Pink and black paint I think it was and there’s some pink on there but no black. Edited February 19, 2020 by BloodyChamp
Zimbra Posted February 19, 2020 Posted February 19, 2020 Two of those Stings are packing heat, which is not an aspect of his character that I recall.
BloodyChamp Posted February 19, 2020 Posted February 19, 2020 Thunder in Paradise and a made for TV movie he was in I think.
Zimbra Posted February 19, 2020 Posted February 19, 2020 Ahh, that makes sense. I didn't know he did any non-wrestling acting.

I can't find a clip of it, but it's from the November 10th, 1997 episode of Nitro. The night after Montreal, where they all have the Canadian flags. But yeah, totally stupid thing to bring up or show. Damaged the mystique a month before killing Sting's build all together. 2
BloodyChamp Posted February 19, 2020 Posted February 19, 2020 Overshadowed by the single worst show, match and moment in wrestling history imo - Starrcade 97 2
GuerrillaMonsoon Posted February 19, 2020 Posted February 19, 2020 Was that Shutterspeed or a later one?
Curt McGirt Posted February 19, 2020 Posted February 19, 2020 Can a show with Malenko/Guerrero on it really be the worst show ever?

I think Tenay mentions this during the match or at least the next night on Nitro. To which I'm assuming Heenan said something derogatory.
BloodyChamp Posted February 19, 2020 Posted February 19, 2020 I obviously understand Malenko but I always thought that had everybody else did business right that night, he would have to. You had Hogan up and quitting, Nash, and Raven. So Malenko said f*** it me to I’m ready to go home and see my youngun. None of those guys have ever admitted it but they were all in in WCW until that night.

As a kid I felt it was my duty as a wrestling fan to support any pro wrestler’s movie, so I definitely watched Shutter Speed. I remember trying to get my mom to let me rent The Real Reason (Men Commit Crimes) on PPV but she thought it was a soft core movie. 2

I have almost no memory of that match, not to mention the best guys in the world can still have serious letdowns. Chris Benoit wrestled Eddie Guerrero at One Night Stand 05 which at the time was one of the best received WWE PPVs ever and you could argue that may have been the worst match on the show. It was absolutely the most disappointing.

I can't remember where I heard it, maybe Prichard's or JR's podcast, but apparently Eddy was in a really shitty mood that night and absolutely did not want to be there.
