nate
Guys MTV DID start a wrestling promotion. Remember? But, buuut ....now, wait a sec, follow me on this one ... what if they *didn't*? Hunh? Then Evan Bourne likely doesn't achieve the notoriety needed to get into WWE since IIRC he got A LOT of attention from his work in WSX.
Tromatagon
WSX was great and is really fucking close to what a promotion would be like if I were to run one. Mine would be way more metal but still
kafkonia
Talking about the first EC in the other thread... What if RVD is a little further off with his dive onto HHH in the first Elimination Chamber and Hunter dies of a crushed windpipe? Then there's a debate about if the first EC should be on the Network In all seriousness, though, this would change things a lot. First, RVD would probably never work for WWE again. Obviously, everything Triple H has been involved with since that time (which is almost everything) would be different - Evolution wouldn't be the faction it was, so Orton and Batista don't get their initial World Title runs when/how they did. The Hunter/Michaels/Benoit triple threat from WrestleMania doesn't take place. Sheamus has no workout buddy to champion his cause. And a second televised death, less than a decade after Owen's, would probably have further repercussions. Probably the EC itself doesn't get trotted out any more, and the in-ring style probably gets toned down sooner than it was.

SorceressKnight
OK, here's my "What if," which approaches a discussion going on right now from a slightly different angle: What if Jamie Kellner could see into the future: a future where live programming is at a premium because it is the only thing that can get a viewer to actually watch live television and avoid DVR, going online to view, etc? Because of this, he keeps WCW Nitro and Thunder on the schedule and Eric Bischoff and Fusient complete the sale and take possession of the promotion. What does the wrestling landscape look like right now? Well, this is a hard What If? to go with- keep in mind, Jamie Kellner already DID see into the future. In 2002, he was one of the first TV people to speak out against DVRs, claiming if you fast-forwarded a commercial it was like stealing television. Therefore, it's safe to say that Kellner already knew that live programming would be at a premium, but he still didn't care because he just plain didn't like pro wrestling. Tromatagon
It doesn't even have to do with wrestling- why do live tv when you can show King of Queens reruns and bring in the same or better ad revenue?
MADCAP
What if Chris Nowinski never gets concussed...? He gets future endeavored inside of a year. I was going for something along the lines of how prominent concussion studies would be if he wasn't at the forefront spearheading things. His reach has expanded into all professional sports.
HumanChessgame
On the subject of the awareness of health conditions and substance abuse in wrestling, would anything resembling the wellness policy have been developed had Eddy and Benoit both lived? Would anyone else have been a casualty, either professionally or health-wise due to it never being enacted?
kafkonia
It's hard to say, because these things usually only come to light after someone dies, like Umaga. But I have to think Kurt would be in even worse shape.
Casey
On the subject of the awareness of health conditions and substance abuse in wrestling, would anything resembling the wellness policy have been developed had Eddy and Benoit both lived? Would anyone else have been a casualty, either professionally or health-wise due to it never being enacted? Eddy & Benoit probably fall into that category discussed earlier with Eddie Gilbert and the Von Erich's. It would happen sooner or later regardless, which means the Wellness Policy probably doesn't get enforced until a later time period. Maybe not, though, since concussions and things like that were/are getting more coverage in mainstream sports. Definitely Kurt, though. Lance Cade? Ron Wright
Unlike major sports, I don't think RAW (or Nitro, if it was still around) falls into the "have to see it live" category. TerjeRUN
What if The Undertaker vs Hulk Hogan match at Survivor Series 1991 didn't happen, because 30 minutes before the match, the two started a two hour sex marathon, really going to town on each other, dripping with every body fluid known to man, followed by spooning. THEN THE PRESS FOUND OUT!

THEN THE PRESS FOUND OUT! And what made Raw/Nitro "must-watch" was the feeling that there was always the chance something crazy would happen, especially in terms of somebody jumping ship. Between the internet getting more and more prominent and especially once Nitro was gone (or let's say someone else did buy WCW to keep it around but Nitro was moved to a different night), the hope/expectation that something was going to happen, was gone. goodhelmet
What if SHANE shows acumen for and ultimately takes over the family business while STEPHANIE moves on to other ventures? From all accounts, Shane's ideas were even worse than the shit we have had since he left. I am thinking the company goes under.

E.J.
I think you can replace "Marty Wright" with anyone on the roster right now besides Orton/Cena, and that's what WWE creative says to themselves during meetings.
