RIPPA Posted September 5 Posted September 5 I am sure everyone will still post it in 7 places but let's try to keep everything contained to here 1
NikoBaltimore Posted September 5 Posted September 5 I know Robert mentioned this in the other thread but while it's odd seeing those guys in the doc I'm under the assumption this was all filmed long before the Grant lawsuit. I highly doubt they'll say anything about that though. Considering it was from people that worked on Tiger King I'm assuming this was meant to be a "Can you believe this fucking guy?!" type of doc though not a full-on hit piece. It'll be interesting to see how the suit changes that whole vibe of the doc.
AxB Posted September 5 Posted September 5 Yeah, I strongly get the vibes that it was going to be a 'slightly nuanced but mostly positive' thing, right up until they were deep into production and the lawsuit and the stepping down happened. At which point they were probably very happy that they'd not finished editing it, because if they'd released the documentary saying "Well, he's a character, but what a guy!" and then all that came out, they'd look like the markiest marks to ever get worked. 1
hammerva Posted September 5 Posted September 5 (edited) Given how Vince looks in this, all his interview stuff was done probably around 2021 before the lawsuit and the whole thing with the UFC merger happened. Sounds a bit like they just let Vince talk and hope that the other people around will try to fill in the blatant missing words Edited September 5 by hammerva 1
twiztor Posted September 5 Posted September 5 Conrad Thompson mentioned that he has heard from a number of people who were interviewed for this. It was around 2 years ago, and it's definitely not just a fluff piece. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrFElFjrzfk&t=632s 1
Leonidas Posted September 5 Posted September 5 Seems awkward Netflix producing this just before they start airing Raw, WWE can't be happy with this?
RIPPA Posted September 5 Author Posted September 5 Jim Ross said he was never contacted to appear in the documentary but would have been happy to participate if he had been asked Dave Meltzer said he filmed stuff for it back in January (whether any of it ends up in the series is a different matter) And since I am sure folks are wondering - a spokesperson for Janel Grant did confirm that the filmmakers did at least make an initial request for Grant to be interviewed but nothing beyond that materialized

Might be an opportunity for both parties to say "this dude was a huge creep and is gone and we have noting to do with him anymore" a clearing of the air if will 4

zendragon Posted September 11 Posted September 11 I hope this ends with a shot of Vince alone in his penthouse trying to book wrestlemania by himself similar to Norman Bates at the end of Psycho 1
Zimbra Posted September 19 Posted September 19 (edited) Janel Grant has a press conference starting shortly regarding the documentary. Doesn't sound like she's too pleased with it. E:It was pretty much nothing. Lawyer said she hadn't seen the doc but hoped it was fair and took some questions. Edited September 19 by Zimbra
Casey Posted September 23 Posted September 23 Vince would never release deceptive documentaries that pushes a certain narrative and misrepresents things to skew the viewer’s perception of history. 1 1 4
zendragon Posted September 24 Posted September 24 I feel like this things gonna come down on Vince like shit from a moose
RIPPA Posted September 24 Author Posted September 24 Per Meltzer on the radio show this AM - Vince tried to purchase the documentary from Netflix so as to prevent its release. Netflix, obviously, refused Dave also said that Vince tried to get Ari Emanuel to purchase it (for the same reason) 1

Netflix, obviously, refused Dave also said that Vince tried to get Ari Emanuel to purchase it (for the same reason) I heard Simmons talk about it a year or two ago on his podcast (before any of the larger allegations) because people were asking if he was still doing it, and he talked about how interesting it was to be in different meetings and discussions with Vince. I do think this was meant to be more in a positive light given the working relationship of all involved but the case quickly pivoted it.
Craig H Posted September 25 Posted September 25 Quickest take, wow, Linda has had a mountain of plastic surgery. Second take, man I was surprised at how fast they jump into Vince being a monster before getting into what they initially planned on. Third take, I fucking hate Vince McMahon. 1

Craig H Posted September 25 Posted September 25 I’m only on the second episode so I’ve yet to even see Austin yet. This is far more negative towards Vince than I imagined. Still not sure how I feel about Tony Atlas: Truthteller of Vince and WWF, but here we are.
Casey Posted September 25 Posted September 25 (edited) “I’m not a CTE guy, I don’t believe in it.” MORE SHITTY THINGS: Vince also doesn’t believe Undertaker got concussed during WM30. He thinks Taker can’t remember the match because he was so traumatized about the fact that he was losing the match. Also doesn’t think Benoit killed his family and himself because of CTE, but because some people just lose it one day. What???? There’s also Vince’s comment about Rita Chatterton and how “it wasn’t rape” but “if I had, the statute of limitations has ran out”. HE SAID THIS IN 2021. ON CAMERA. Hogan bragging about shutting down the unionization efforts by Jesse Ventura. More mild than the previous 2-3 but, still. Edited September 25 by Casey 1
hammerva Posted September 25 Posted September 25 (edited) Yeah the only reason you would even think of saying that "even if it was rape" is that you know there was nothing that could get him punished. As of at least episode 3, this is probably the most honest Hulk has even been which is an extremely low bar to begin with but it is a start The idea that the "Billionaire Ted" skit just being for fun is kind of a joke because maybe it was in the beginning but it got extremely personal and very mean. No idea that they were planning a version with Razor and Diesel that they turned down. I don't know if they rejected the idea because they were going to WCW but more they thought it was dumb as fuck Also loved the "openly gay Pat Patterson" line from Bruce Pritchard. While there was hundreds of jokes about Pat in his career they never flat out told people he was gay. And they can say they didn't do because of gay panic but I think the panic was from them thinking that the media would pile it on a lot more The funniest part of it is so far is Vince having this touching moment about his father loving him as he was dying and Tony Atlas almost immediately saying that he didn't think Vince liked his father After watching episode and Vince trying to explain badly why what he did in the territories was completely different than Ted Turner did in WCW during 1995-1996 and realize that holy shit JD Vance and Vince have the same fucked up mentality. By the way we talk about Linda and the work being done, it is a fucking creepy what Vince looks like when he even tries to smile. When he starts to talk about Dr Jerry Graham he gives the ultimate Joker smile that will give you nightmares Edited September 25 by hammerva 4
Craig H Posted September 25 Posted September 25 Just finished episode 3, or 4, whichever is the screw job episode. None of this is particularly new so far, but if you know nothing about Vince or WWE and you watch this, you’re going to think Vince is a huuuuuuuuge piece of shit. My wife is eager to watch this and I know exactly what she’s going to think. So for documentary watchers unfamiliar with wrestling, yeah, this doesn’t paint Vince in a very good light. For wrestling fans, I think it’s interesting seeing Hulk be actually honest, or as honest as he could be, and I think Vince speaking on a lot of this for the first time shows a massive disconnect with reality, which isn’t exactly new or anything. It’s more or less confirmation that, yes, this man is disconnected from reality. All in all I’m not really impressed so far. We’re all wrestling nerds. Some more than others. Nothing here is contradictory to anything that Dave has reported on for decades, so right there you can tell Bruce to shove his rumors and innuendo up his fat fuckin ass. What is most interesting is that the soundtrack for this is the soundtrack for the Last Dance and it makes you think, ooh, we’re going to get a really open view into shit we didn’t know. That couldn’t be further from the truth. This is the weakest sauce version of the Last Dance. Not enough from Vince, not enough that no one would have known about, too much talking from everyone else, and it is just covering ground just has been covered and recovered and reheated and so on about a million times over. 2
