The amount of people I've heard talk about who Chris Mortensen was of camera has been pretty incredible. He's up there with Tim Kurkjian on the list of people that no one seems to have a bad word to say about him.  In a business where everyone seems to be fighting to keep their spot he advocate for ESPN to hire all the NFL reporters who could possible replace him. He was also someone who had a great sense of humor who would mercifully bust your balls,  but would also be the first person to stand up and protect your name if anyone talked shit about you behind your back. When I go,  I hope people talk about me like they've talked about him over the past few days.

Your balls will be in safe hands.

I have added the Rich Eison show to my daily podcast schedule after getting annoyed by Lebatard. How many times can Rich go on air to announce the death of a friend. I watch his announcement of Stuart Scott's passing if it shows up in my list and if there was a time I ever thought someone was going to quit; its right there.

How much do you get paid to be the CEO of a completely theoretical network that no one actually believes will ever come to fruition? And why do I never get these type of jobs? I can run a make believe network.

AND if you end up being completely terrible at the job, I mean just a complete disaster, and it all fails and tons of people lose their jobs because of your total ineptitude, you still get millions of dollars!

Following up here, the buyer's name is Max Noremo (which, apparently is a real name?).   Anyway, he's in the business of driving traffic to online casinos, and so that is what Deadspin is now going to become.   A gambling referral site.

Incredible.

Speaking of gambling referral sites, ESPN...

Rece Davis over the weekend called the ESPNBet picks (most of which were correct) "risk-free investing advice."

Someone higher up clearly pulled him aside and explained the terms "legal liability" and "gambling addiction" and Rece has apologized by saying "there is risk."

Bill Maher is launching a podcast network and his first hire was Steele

That clip was literally from her first show

So apparently the story about WFAN trying to acquire Stugotz as a program director is an actual story.   The pay must not have been that great because this is the kind of position that he has been dreaming about.

https://awfulannouncing.com/radio/jon-stugotz-weiner-not-leaving-despite-wfan-interest.html

There's a lot of time that finding a new job isn't about the pay. I'm just gonna guess Stugotz got word from industry friends as to why the program director slot at the #1 sports radio station in the #1 media market in America was open, weighed that against his current job, and made his decision.  (Mainly because that's what I'd do.)

If LeBatard is smart, he's working out a nice fat pay raise to reward/lock down his guy.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure PD at WFAN is not a job that many people will want.   There's a reason Eskin lasted 2 years and is going back to Drive time.

The rise in exposure to the WNBA and women's college basketball in the last 3 months has really exposed how incredibly awkward men are toward not only dealing with women in sports but women in general.  Here is Greg Doyel proving the point

When the Barstool guy is calling you a pervert and he may actually be right, you know you messed up badly
