Been replaying the Diablo series in story mode, and it's really surprising how good it the first two actually were. The first: yeah, OK, dungeon crawl to kill the big bad WHAT WAIT WHAT ARE YOU DOING --- And the second one really neatly wrapped that up and left you with a world state that had completely changed, but you didn't know how until the third one. Unfortunately the third one sort of petered out at the end, because it didn't seem to be willing to admit your character just became the most powerful thing ever and what that would mean for you.

I read a recap of the story of the 4th game and very little of it made sense, and nothing felt compelling (partly because my pal Tyriel was nowhere to be seen). There seems to be no connection to the previous one. Definitely will not be getting it any time soon.

D4 feels like a retcon of D3. Actually, it may be a retcon of D3. I remember thinking that at the time and my friends who were all playing it with me thought the same.

The one thing that could have saved D4 for me, storyline wise, is if they gave you any sort of agency and allowed you to side one way or the other and instead it was completely linear with not a whole lot being resolved at the very end.

Given that Capcom are more than willing to make noticeable changes to reissues (including in thie same collection) and how deeply Marvel hated his inclusion, I'm genuinely surprised to see Norimaro wasn't removed from the Japanese version of Marvel vs Street Fighter.

The entire staff of beloved game publisher Annapurna Interactive has reportedly resigned

Quote

Annapurna Interactive, the game company famous for publishing indie hits like Stray, Outer Wilds, Gorogoa, Neon White, What Remains of Edith Finch, and many more, may not be the same company anymore.

Bloomberg reports that the entire staff of Annapurna Interactive, the gaming division of Megan Ellison’s Annapurna, has resigned after failing to convince Ellison to let them spin off its games division into a new company. IGN is corroborating the report.

But didn’t they already spin off into an actual developer, in addition to being a publisher? That’s confusing. They were making a Blade Runner game.

I guess if the staff wanted the actual games division to be separate from the publishing side, that makes sense.

i don't get hung up on the nuances of gaming lore over literal decades (Diablo 1 came out almost 28 years ago!) but i definitely appreciated in real time how 1 flowed into 2. D3 initially left me cold, moreso due to the gameplay than the story (gameplay was too linear). i warmed up to it and have dumped hundreds of hours into it. Stop me if you've heard this before, but D4 initially left me cold, moreso due to the gameplay than the story (forced online play and dynamic levelling = not my bag). HOWEVER, by the time i was coming to the endgame, i was ENTHRALLED with the story. Like, i was worried that i would have to make a choice regarding the final battle, and didn't know which was the "right" choice. Then yeah, the game doesn't give you a choice and sets up the upcoming expansion.

D4 made me look at the lore from a more macro level. I don't know if this is what they intended, but i felt like D1 flowed right into D2. Then D3 was set a good amount of time later, because the world is falling and the Hells are invading. D4 feels like it's set WAY WAY later, when the Hells have essentially won. Like, generations have come and gone between 3 and 4. This smooths over the rough edges and lets me connect the games enough for my taste.

I think they meant "spin off the games division so it's a separate company than the film studio"

For the Marvel vs Capcom Fighting Collection, some stages have been altered for MVC. And some images used in the ending of the Punisher JPN version have been removed. About it, not much changes compared to the previous Capcom Fighting Collection.

The next Capcom Fighting Collection will have the most visual changes.

Fucking Steam. Over a year ago I tried out Dark and Darker and pretty quickly uninstalled it because it felt like difficult unplayable garbage. Then I start seeing it advertised a ton and figured, why not, I'll try it again.

I'm so fucking addicted to it. It is a million times better than whatever it was awhile ago.

Going through Kingdom Hearts 2 and as someone who played the original version on PS2 when it came out, this Final Mix version has some tweaks I like. The extra content is hit or miss with the extra battles and forms being a hit and the extra cut scenes being a miss for me.

I'm amazed it took them this long.

They're suing for patent infringement not copyright.  They're trying to claim a patent on a play mechanic or something.  I have serious issues with that.

Nintendo is downright evil and I would say worse than Microsoft when it comes to lawsuits. They sued emulator creators and ROM site hosting companies because they could, even though Nintendo has no desire beyond their meager output on Nintendo Switch Online to make their back catalog available. One guy who lost a lawsuit against them had the most barbaric sentence I've ever seen of having to pay them $14 million; it's absolutely heartless for Nintendo to do so. It doesn't excuse them for breaking copyright law, but I often wonder if copyrights benefit companies like Nintendo rather than individuals. Should the rights holders for Popeye sue Nintendo since Mario copied their character?

I say f Nintendo and I hope Palworld wins. Claiming a gameplay element is a 'patent' robs game development of creativity - sometimes using what Nintendo did is within the realm of doing what works. Next thing you know, Nintendo will be suing companies for a jump mechanic in those companies' games.

Patents are supposed to expire.  And many have over time.  The only way they're probably getting around this is filing the patents years or decades later or in new "wording" and new depictions.

There were colorized revisions of the first Castlevania Game Boy game, in 1997 for Japan, first was in the Konami GB Collection Vol. 1 for the Game Boy with Super Game Boy Support. In Europe in 1999, the game was re-released for the Game Boy Color as a selectable title in the Konami GB Collection Vol. 1.

Christopher was made to walk slighty faster for the European collection. There are few other differences for the European GBC re-release.

Astro Bot is everything people have said. It's probably my favorite pure 3d platformer since Mario Odyssey. And I can't even describe the noise I made when I rescued the Yorda bot.

Spoiler

When I saw the Bloodborne dude parry Astro Bot, I yelled out loud. I am 43.

I wanted to like The Plucky Squire, but it is a very cool aesthetic wrapped around mediocre gameplay, unfortunately.

It tries to be a little Typoman, a little A Link Between Worlds, and maybe there's other DNA of other games in there, but as much as I tried to stick with it, it wasn't happening.

I am glad that it came with PS+ and that I didn't pay for it.

The reception to The Plucky Squire was definitely underwhelming... Oh well, I still haven't gotten to one of the last PS+ full game drops, Dave The Diver. After finishing Astro (fuck that master challenge) I think it'll be the next thing to take over my time.

Picked up/downloaded the Marvel vs. Capcom collection and boy do I stink at these 2d fighters now. I couldn't even get past Colossus in Children of the Atom. Gotta work on some techniques or something.
