M2 developed Haunted Castle Revisited. They added some things to the game to make it more Castlevania like, the candles for one example. M2 are the same developers of Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth (2009).

The original Haunted Castle was originally meant to be another new horror franchise from the start, then they switched the game to being another Castlevania entrant in the series. The team who developedĀ Hot Chase worked on the original Haunted Castle.

The cartridge version of Akumajou Dracula released in 1993 for the Famicom has an easy mode

https://youtu.be/LQ9pLBKiw28?si=jVB46ZwYAh53Ys38

The changes TCRF listed:

"Your default amount of hearts is 30 instead of 5.

You start with 9 lives per credit instead of 3.

Less damage is taken from enemies and bosses.

Bosses take double damage from regular attacks and subweapons.

Getting hit no longer knocks you backwards. Instead, you just get frozen in place for a split second.

You retain your subweapon and double/triple shot powerup upon death, though getting a game over will take away the latter.

The double/triple shot powerups are retained when picking up a different subweapon."

If you want to Platinum it and haven't done the weekly challenge trophy yet, you're screwed. You're screwed either way just for having Concord.

I think I saw something where - at least at the time of the announcement - only one person had gotten the Platinum on it

Re-installing and re-playing some older Diablo games, or at least trying to, and I had no idea that they had updated and re-released the first two games.

The other retelings of Akumajō Dracula (Famicom)/Castlevania (NES)...

Vampire Killer (MSX2) Euro and Japan only

Haunted Castle (several revisions exist)

Super Castlevania 4

Castlevania Chronicles (Sharp X68000), (the PlayStation port contains Original Mode and the revamped Arrange mode)

Haunted Castle Revisited

Ā

Castlevania was ported to the PC for DOS,Ā Amiga 500, and Commodore 64. Those games don't look and sound the same as the NES game.

And there was VS Castlevania (arcade port of the NES game with changes). There is the Playchoice 10 version of Castlevania for Arcades, only the palette is changed to be likeĀ VS Castlevania and nothing else is different gameplay wise.Ā

The GBA game is just the NES Rom edited and working under emulator, and the graphics modified because of the different size of the GBA screen. Save feature was added and the ending credits were edited.

And finally the several updated mobile ports released in the 00's.Ā

I am seriously considering firing up XCOM 2 with all the mods I had installed like 2 years ago, which I can't even remember what they are or what they do, because I'm a dumb fuck that likes hurting himself.

I bought Astro Bot. Holy shit I might get back into Platinum hunting again.

I'm also dangerously close to buying Space Marine II and Castlevania: Dominus Collection. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Posted

Getting Dominus Collection on the switch was a real good move.

I'm tempted by Space Marine II but I don't like slamming my nuts in a vice repeatedly.Ā Ā

I really like I see with Astro Bot.

I want to like Space Trucker, but I'm not a fan of the power cell micro-management nor the fact that you can't actually get Power Cells at every store.

SUNSOFT is Back! Retro Game Selection contains The Wing of Madoola, Firework Thrower Kantaro's 53 Stations of the Tokaido and Ripple Island. 3 1980 Famicom games. AllĀ availableĀ in english now.

I don't know when I'm going to be able to play it but I need Astrobot to sell every damn copy it can, and remind Sony that they are both still allowed to make fun single player games and use all the old franchises they are sitting on. Every version of a just universe has Astrobot paving the way for Ape Escape 4.

found myself laid up on the couch, so decided to get ahead of myself and give Nintendo World Championships a run.Ā

i am not a speedrunner, and don't really like to play that way. but damn if this isn't hella addictive. all these short challenges that start off comically easy before ramping up.Ā

got all the challenges beat with at least an "A" rating, with most being A+ or better. a few S ranks. not signed up for Switch Online, so i guess this ends my playthrough. was perfect for what i needed tho.

Space Marine 2 may be the most metal game ever. The only thing holding it back is the soundtrack. If it had Doom’s soundtrack, well, then it would just be Doom, but still.

As for the story, I don’t know what is going on. I think the story is bugs bad - kill all bugs - kill whatever secret heretic is in the Space Marines midst.

I will say that I’m hoping PVP is good otherwise I’m going right back to Helldivers 2.

Astrobot is my GotY five hours in.

Your move next, Echoes of Wisdom.

It honestly looks like the game Nintendo has failed to make for Mario in the last decade, just a wonderous adventure.

Super Mario Odyssey is one of my two favorite games ever made, and this does fit into that vein. Much like an EAD 3D Mario, it has a blend of platforming and exploring that is perfectly balanced, and it is easy to get into, but will challenge you if you're trying to 100% clear things.Ā

It also throws a ton of level design and gameplay variety at you, like a 3D version of Super Mario Bros. 3. Every level, you get some new mechanic to play around with.

And like EAD's Mario games, it also has "that level," or the level where you realize the sheer amount of creativity in the game and start to expand your understanding of how certain mechanics work. For me, that level in Astro is Downsize Surprise. That's the defining level of this game for me, the one I'd show anyone wondering if they should spend sixty bucks on this game.

Edited to say that I just unlocked a hidden trophy for

Spoiler

rescuing the Prince of All Cosmos Bot, getting his rolling sticky ball out of the gacha machine for him, and then standing in front of him while he rolled it out of curiosity as to whether or not he'd be able to roll me up into it.

This game wants you to try shit. I love games that reward you for trying whatever comes to mind.

I am sad to report I'm enjoying the start of The First Descendant despite it being by Nexon, a company that was once fined $9 million for lying about item drop rates. It's basically Korean Warframe. That's it, that's all you need to know.
