  4. After watching BvS, I am astounded by how well Marvel Studios has successfully taken a dated and polarizing character like Captain America and established him as near completely altruistic and admirable hero even in materiel with a darker tone and kept him socially relevant while DC Studios has failed abysmally in doing the same for Superman. I think DC needs to take more ownership over their IPs and reel in the poetic license.

  9. When we were kids, we all thought we would be upstanding adults. That we would be heroes. That we would be the purest of pure and innocence because being good was right. And then came to the realization that being good in a society that created for evil to succeed is bullshit. Yeah, we all said to ourselves that we were superman. We would be the awesome good guy and be the paragon of fairness and justice. Then reality came in like a crash after smoking a gallon of peyote and you found yourself in a desert butt ass naked with tube socks on because fuck you, they were comfortable. But you continue to live in this unabashed reality and do things that would make your childhood ashamed. You did drugs because the pain of disappointment was too much and you wanted to be numb. You had sex with a transexual prostitute because they were woman enough for you so fuck it. You popped a molly and started sweating because peer pressure is a thing and everyone is doing it. As reality starts shaving away your pride, innocence, and eventually molded your dreams, you still found success some fucking how, but it wasn't how you wanted to be. But you succeeded right? It doesn't matter how. The journey made have been a trip to depravity, but you are here. You achieved it. You have it all. Then the personification of your childhood reminds of what you wanted to be. It is a lingering reminder of exactly what you wanted to be like. The hero. The ace. This person achieved what you couldn't, reached the level that you did and still maintained their innocence. They abstained where you gave in. You landed on their feet when you faltered. They became the hero you wanted to be and you became the villain you always wanted to beat. AND IT EATS AWAY AT YOU! That's Sasha Banks. She knows she is good enough. Hell, she feels that she is the best. And that should have been enough, but it wasn't. Sasha came into NXT happy to be there. She felt that her ability was good enough to outshine everybody because she is good enough. Then embarrassment after embarrassment. Stumble after stumble. Defeat after defeat, you get the constant reminder that maybe you are not. How would you feel that you are one step from becoming your dream, becoming the showstopper, the Main Event, and everyone resorts to calling you "ratchet." She needed to gain an attitude. A personality that was larger than life. She needed to project that she was a superstar so she adopted a persona from Nicki Minaj and because the Boss. The personification of materialism, narcissism, and grandiose pandering. Everything Sasha did not want to be. But it worked. She became a household name. A star. Then Bayley. Bayley. The itch in the middle of your back that you can't quite reach. Bayley. The annoying voice in the back of your mind that you thought was gone. Bayley. The constant reminder that even though you succeeded...you did not really succeed. The incorruptible pureness. The innocent memento that you never wanted. But Sasha can never be like Bayley. It's too late. Once you break bad, you can never be good. She will always be the Boss. The facade that she created to be successful and the inner Sasha has to be buried deep down because no one likes her and she is not good enough.

  15. I got on a couple days ago after reading the last few posts to see how I could do. After I got the update installed, I go into a room and try to steal a car. Twice in a row, I got dragged back out and stomped by NPCs. I think that may have happened to me a total of four times over 2-3 years of playing this game, and it happened twice in about five minutes. That's a new level of "holy shit I am rusty." I get notified that there's a VIP that I can kill. I have no idea what that means, but it sounds like fun. I take off toward the guy and wipe out one of his bodyguards with the sniper rifle. The actual VIP snuck up on me three or four times while I was fussing with the bodyguard. Then, it hit me. "What the fuck are you doing fighting this guy you can't see on foot?" It was like the scene at the end of Bloodsport when Van Damme gets sand thrown in his eyes and starts getting his ass kicked. Then he flashes back to his training. I closed my eyes, remembered my training via an 80s montage, threw a sticky on a car, and rammed it right up his and his expensive car's asses. Turned the game off while the getting was good.

  28. I went to a WWE house show last night, Sasha looked pretty unpolished in that setting, timing looked off, moves didn't connect well, none of the Divas looked good but she didn't look any better then Naomi or Tamina and worse then guys like the Miz and Adam Rose. Makes me feel more like her great stuff was smoke and mirrors.

  29. I think it comes down to the voting period here. Sasha might have taken it if it was 2015 as a whole, but she languished on the main roster to utter silence for a huge chunk of the period while Bayley was having varied matches against different opponents as a babyface ace. The Alexa, Eva, Nia, and Carmella matches were all good and all felt different. Add in the fun tag matches and some of the house show footage we have (including another good Alexa match) and it seems pretty clear to me. I'm not sure what Sasha has over the last 9 months or so other than working with Bayley.

  30. I know you didn't like the end of the fight but this was my take on it. Batman has been pushed over the edge. He saw the worst of Gotham. He lost everyone that was ever close to him except for Alfred. But he could deal with his other foes in his own way. Now comes this alien race with seemingly unlimited power and it's a disaster worse than anything he's ever seen, hundreds died, his building collapsed, people he knew died there.. etc. So he makes it his goal to take out Superman. I thought they showed his motivation very well there. And he completely dehumanized Superman too. He saw him as an alien, not as a person. But when Superman is about to die he's muttering Martha.. please.. save her.. and Batman does a quick like "what? why are you saying this how do you know my mother.." and Lois is there a person he probably respects and trusts saying it's Superman's mother... now the wheels are turning and Bruce knows it's Lex he needs to stop and it humanizes Superman. Did I think maybe they could have done it better? Possibly, I don't know.. but it worked for me. It humanized Superman and made Bruce realize what he's become and gave him a kick in the ass to start doing things the old Batman way.

  31. And I'm not even saying Warners and DC are wrong for doing this. BvS for a B- from men, and a B from women, but it got an A from people under 18. Go where the money is, etc. But that doesn't mean I have to like it. And, hey, in the end, I got more enjoyment from it than I expected (lowered expectations for the win! Hooray) so... Shrug

  32. Marvel's done four things exceptionally well. 1. They struck a fun tone with Iron Man, modernizing it while keeping enough details to make it work. 2. And this is most important, I think: they got Captain America right. That's the iconic character right there and they proved that he could work even in a post-modern world. Superman could too. 3. They hit the marks on Avengers, not all of them, but enough. 4. They managed to launch a few smaller properties successfully, leaning on some specific house style elements that people enjoy while differentiating them with separate genres. Dr. Strange is next, which is magic horror, and thus unlike anything they've been doing. It all feels different. It all feels the same. Building on what Brian said, has Superman killed? Yes. But it led to Exile. It was shown as a massively horrible mistake and had huge, huge costs. It was also not the story that they led the post-crisis Superman with, and it existed within a broader spectrum than that. If you're only going to do one story every 3 years, or whatever, there are different things you can and can't get away with relative to if you're putting out four comics a month. If you do one Spider-Man movie every three years, you probably shouldn't do the one where Doc Ock takes over his brain. That's an interesting twist on the formula to see what something different would look like, but they're still trying to establish the movie baseline, and they went far afield because that's what excited Snyder and that's what WB thought that America would lap up because it loves seeing its heroes fall and shown to be even more horrible than we are. Look at the popcorn eating and hand-wringing in something like the Cosby note. It's a spectator sport, our national pastime.

  33. But you have to understand, the vast, VAST majority of Batman comics ever published, and I mean probably well over 90%, he had a hard and fast rule against both killing people and using guns. You can say it's not an important trait to translate (and clearly filmmakers have tended to agree with you) but to argue it's not a party of the comics because of things that happened before the character was solidified or the extremely rare counterexample, is to ignore 70+ years of fairly consistent storytelling. And no, the complaints about Man of Steel aren't about the Donnor film. It's about the character of Superman from the films, comics, animated series, radio serials, and TV shows. Is the character a completely straight line that follows a clear path in all that since 1938? Of course not. But one would have to be willfully denying nearly all of his history to say Man of Steel wasn't a pretty radical reinterpretation of the character as it relates to his most consistent traits and personality and tone. Again, you can argue that making such a radical change isn't a bad thing, or was even necessary, but to act like it's not out of step with the character as he'd been portrayed is simply wrong.

  34. More and more, it seems like Reigns is someone who's in the business solely because his plans at making it as a football player fell through and it just happens to be an industry in which he has family connections. Interviews like this one seem to highlight as much. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/os-roman-reigns-wwe-20160327-story.html "If you boo me, you're being a bad role model for kids". LOL. He doesn't get it, and doesn't sound like he ever will.

  35. I can't imagine that potential opponent list was too long. With Smith, it's not someone they got big plans for and it's also a better opponent than she's ever going to see in Invicta. Right now, the plan is to see how this fight goes and go from there. She's still Invicta champion. However, if she blows away Smith in front of 40,000+ people in her hometown, I doubt she is just going to be thrown back on Invicta cards. If she calls out someone, that's going to drum up attention that is only reserved for Rousey and/or women's bantamweight title fights.

  38. As someone that's platinum'd Watch Dogs, the drinking game was, by far, the hardest trophy. I recommend getting a little inebriated yourself - it actually makes it easier to follow along. No, I'm not kidding, it's how I finally beat it.

  39. On the 8/4/97 Nitro where Luger wins the title, the Nitro girls are doing a routine when Alex Wright comes out of the back dancing and dances right through their routine. I laughed for like five minutes because I am easily amused. I watched it back three times. Priceless. That 8/4/97 Nitro is really good. Chavo throws a sweet dropkick and Alex Wright is a really funny weaselly heel and the Luger win is fantastic.

  40. The Double Stomp never looks that good, and the Corner Dropkick isn't even the best on the NXT roster now that Aries is there. His apron kick looked just shitty on this one, and his cutoff running forearm also didn't look great by any stretch. The idea Finn has been the best part of NXT this year over Joe, Asuka, Emma, Jordan and Gable, or the Revival to me seems really really, well, wrong.

  41. New Showtime documentary debuting tonight I think about the history of the rise and eventual fall of Spring Break in Florida during the 80's. Shows how important MTV was in making spring break something that you had to be. As a high school/college kid of the 80's, those spring break special were amazing.
