Warptank is the first UFO 50 game that has me really wanting to beat the whole thing.  Just so, so fucking awesome.  And this is only game 20 of the 50 to try which has me excited for the rest.

Lotta games took me maybe two or three spins to figure out what they were actually asking of me. I bounced right off of Attactics like I do all tower defense until I realize the enemy couldn't shuffle their units and archers were OP, then I started blowing through it.  The mechanics behind Devilition are pure chain-reaction and get thick once they click. Block Koala isn't nearly as obtuse as it looks. Party House is probably the most modern game in the compilation, again I took one look at it and ran away, took two looks and found out it's pure deckbuilder, super tight and straightforward once you get to the nuts and bolts, all about managing risk and keeping your rolodex manageable. And oh my God is Rail Heist revealing itself to be the most mechanically sound thing in here. Once you realize how line of sight triggers stuff, what you can do with objects, how to stay crouched and rolling, what you can punch holes in, how to drop motherfuckers right outta the bottom of the train... I don't even use the pistol. I just get in there and raise hell.

My lungs are back after COVID and I'm gonna return to my obsessive DDR playing soon, and I need to peel myself off of UFO 50 because I started the original Dark Cloud on PS2 and actually really like it. But I haven't had anything burrow its way into my brain like this since... *maybe* Bloodborne when I played it 2 years ago.

My only pro tips are 1) Don't play chronologically. You end up playing the most simple games first that way and it doesn't represent the spread as well. 2) Pilot Quest is an idle game. It plays itself when you're playing other stuff, so try to start it early. 3) The biggest and fairest knock on the game is that there maybe should have been instruction manuals. Most of the games are straightforward enough to pick up and play, some stuff like Barbuta and Mooncat are very much vague on purpose, but something like tabletop resource-and-warfare game Avianos is made a lot better by going online and looking up what the hell you're doing.

hi, ufo 50 rules and all, and I'm sorry to be this guy, but I gotta clarify this cuz I've seen a lot of people say this and it's wrong: the Ojiro Fumoto game in UFO50 is not Velgress (aka "the reverse downwell"). His game on the collection is Seaside Drive.

However, If you have a Netflix account, a smartphone and want to play Reverse Downwell made by the Downwell guy, go into the Netflix Games part of the phone app and  you'll find the game you're looking for. It's called Poinpy and it's genuinely one of the best phone games I've ever played.

anyways UFO 50 is very good and my #2 game of the year behind Devil Blade Reboot. Favorite games are Valbrace, Party House, Pilot Quest, Planet Zoldarth & Seaside Drive, and my least favorites are the ones that play on my phobias and all the Campanellas.

I'll get on Pilot Quest right away but I was back and forth on going chronologically.  In the end I went that route because it's neat to see how it starts with Barbuta (obtuse but relatively simple in terms of gameplay and asthetics) and how the ideas and overall vibes of the games are past that.  If anything I had to show a bit of restraint going chronological and while initially tough I feel glad I did.

Have you guys done anything with the terminal?  Is there anything worthwhile with any of them or is it mainly for easter eggs.

One of these days I'm gonna finish MSHvSF with Shadow Nash and USAgent. They don't really complement each other well gameplay wise and USAgent has no ending, but they fit together too well thematically to pair Shadow with anyone else.

I just got the platinum for Doki Doki Literature Club. Now, if you don't mind, I may take on something a little more light-hearted, like the Dead Space remake or even the facist playthrough of Disco Elysium...

I said what the hell and bought an Alarmo. Nintendo coming out with a smart alarm clock is just so weird that I have to get in on this particular weird thing. Besides, I needed a new alarm clock, so might as well go for the deluxe one with "Jump Up, Superstar!" and a sleep tracker.

$100 is a lot for an alarm clock.

To the point that I asked my wife if buying one was too DINKy. She thought it was neat and told me "why not?"

(Yes, I realize how lucky/privileged I am to be able to spend a hundred dollars on a neat little gadget just for the heck of it).

I was in the market for a proper alarm because I am paranoid and usually use my phone alarm as a backup rather than a main alarm. Instead of paying thirty bucks for a regular clock radio with an alarm, I figured I'd pay an extra seventy bucks for the sleep data and the eventual chance to have Isabelle wake me up while 6AM plays softly in the background.

If you engage with Nextlander at all, this week's episode is an excellent listen. Jason Schreier is on to talk about his new book on Blizzard, and it turns around a 90ish minute discussion around Blizzard's history and its various turns.

Thank you for mentioning this. Didn't know he'd released a book on Blizzard. I'll have to pick it up.

So I'm at the point in KH2 where I'm level 99, made Ultima Weapon, I beat the Mt. Olympus cups, the absent silhouettes, most of the Mushroom 13 and Sephiroth. I attempted a few of the Data Organization XIII members but the battles weren't particularly fun for me just longer and the they spammed more attacks to keep in me in the air? Not sure if I shouldn't just go ahead and finish up the game at this point. This is the eternal conflict in RPGs for me, I usually get bored trying to complete a bunch of extra stuff and I'm super OP by the final battle. I remember finishing off the final boss in FF15 before he could finish his monologue.

I think Birth By Sleep is next in the Kingdom Hearts collection? I might actually replay 3 at this point too since it's been 4 years.

Birth by Sleep would be the next in the release order and is generally considered a great entry (I bounced off of it, but I think that was more the depression then the game itself). Has it really been 4 years since I gave up on KH3? Good grief.

There are Pokemon leaks out there for old stuff, sourcecodes, lore, Gen 10 and more. And the new Nintendo system codename is the Ounce. Codenames for systems aren't the final names though. Gamefreak acknowledged it was hacked into in Aug.

Mega Jynx was a cut Mega Pokemon for X and Y.

And the leak had evidence of an MMO being in either active development or was at one point.

I vaguely remember hearing something about that? That after Pokemon GO blew up they floated some things around? I don't remember anything coming of it, tho.

They found an unreleased Super Nintendo remake of Quinty (aka Mendel Palace), apparently still being worked on as late as 1998. That would line up with it maybe being a Satellaview project.

Mendel Palace is a great game, so it's a shame it didn't get anything following it up.

Whoa. I never played this game til the Namco Museum Archive sets (we need more of these please) and got immediately addicted. I would have LOVED to see another version.

It's in development as "Synapse” and is being made both by Game Freak and ILCA. The MMO will be battle based.

ILCA developed Pokémon Home and the remakes Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Their workers used to be Cavia employees. Their employees used to work on Drakengard and did some work with NieR: Automata. They look groomed to be Game Freaks replacement if GF doesn't shape up. The Pokémon Company registered a new subsidiary called "Pokémon Works", this year in the same building as ILCA and the subsidiary is a collaborative effort between The Pokémon Company and ILCA

Anyway I was right there will be no Black and White remakes.

Do note that while the leak has been verified, there are arguments about the accuracy of some of the translations out in the wild or if even some of the things that were leaked are 100% legit.

For example, Rica Matsumoto (the seiyuu for Satoshi) is flat out denying that strained relations between her and Ikue Ōtani (the seiyuu for Pikachu) was part of the reason they ended the Pokemon anime.
