RIPPA
#DIY (Gargano/Ciampa) Gargano vs. Ciampa (CWC) vs. Authors of Pain (NXT Takeover San Antonio) See Also: Revival matches (one will be posted in Revival thread), the also each had a bunch of indie work during time period. EVOLVE especially but Ciampa in BOLA and AAW KAMAITACHI (Hiromu Takahashi) vs. Dragon Lee (3/4/16) vs. Dragon Lee (New Japan New Beginning 2017) - English Commentary vs. Chris Dickinson (Beyond) See Also: vs. KUSHIDA from Wrestle Kingdom (in KUSHIDA thread); ROH 6-man stuff with Addiction
Michael Sweetser
As much as I loved the Dragon Lee matches, DIY was cookin'.
Sublime
This is a hard one, DIY are probably one of the best tag teams of the past year but Takahashi/Kamaitachi is one of the best junior's of the past year also. This will have to be thought on and I've been contemplating it since the bracket reveal.
RIPPA
I would say that of the tag teams - #DIY had the most solo work that could also support their case. Probably the only other one that is close is Sheamus and Cesaro and most of their singles work was against each other and it started to blend together (though the did have some good Hoss Fights)
Matt D
I haven't been that impressed with Kamaitachi on the indies. I don't think a lot of that is his fault so much as just having the wrong opportunities. I do like it when a crowd is mostly unfamiliar with him at the start of a match but by the end are very into him.
JonnyLaw
I feel like DIY did a good job playing with the expectation that Ciampa was going to turn on Gargano at some point.

Rehabilitated Rick
Meditating on it, this may have been my favorite wrestling moment in the time period Shid I'm going to watch that match again right now. Whether you watch wrestling for matches or moments, DIY have had both at a canter
Cristobal
That was in the top 3 of CWC's moments of feels (along with "Please Sign Cedric" and DB hugging Kendrick after the Ibushi match), and I have no clue how I'd rank those 1-2-3. Takahashi has been trying like hell to keep the NJ Juniors' division good, but I have to go DIY with this one.
Craig H
#DIY all the way. They're in my top five favorites in wrestling right now. Each guy also got a great match out of the AoP. I wasn't sure what to expect from that match and it exceeded my expectations. Reminded me a lot of the Rock vs Brock. In each case, the champion(s) got in some believable offense, made a monster look vulnerable, and then made the monsters look like monsters by getting killed by them. SolidGoldBomb
I would probably vote for Kamaitachi over either of these guys individually, but it's pretty stupid to have tag teams vs singles guys. Not really a fair comparison to compare singles work to tag team work + each individual's work.
RIPPA
Well it is really hard to say to someone "Only consider their tag work" for them when everyone else is "Hey - they were great in this Youtube video" And the spent the majority of the time period as a tag team. Plus I am not splitting up units. This just happens to be a unique set of circumstances And your face is stupid
SolidGoldBomb
No need to split up units, but including them in what should be a singles tournament is just marginalizing the middle of the pack singles guys in favor of superworkers. It's comparing apples to oranges. Like individually I wouldn't put Gargano above Kamaitachi, but maybe I actually like Ciampa a little more than Kamaitachi, they are close in my mind. But you can do a lot more to evoke emotion in the tag team format in ways you can't do in singles matches, thereby making a team greater than the sum of it's parts. So we've got a bunch of handicap matches here, and that's cool since I don't think a tag team will win the tournament anyway. The tag teams will take out some of the middle of the pack singles workers who could have beaten them individually, and then It's just gonna take a superworker handicap match specialist like a Roman Reigns to beat the tag teams. JonnyLaw
Which is amusing, because IIRC, the Shield being in separately is at least part of what led to units being combined.
The Man Known as Dan
It would have completely made me feel differently about the entire tournament since the Shield would have won that tournament going away, by miles.
odessasteps
I saw Kamaitachi last summer in a field house in Lancaster and had go wait an hour because of a fire drill. I dont even rememeber if i saw DIY at the nxt house show in Bel Air. I dont think so but am not 100% sure. That said, i would likely vote DIY since Kamaitachi does not wrestle every match vs dragon lee.
Godfrey
DIY/Revival may be the match of the year. Kamaitachi seems intent on breaking his tail bone with reckless dives. How can you vote for a man who hates his own butt?
EVA
I think DIY had an amazing all-around year. Takahashi is amazing against Dragon Lee and REALLY hit-or-miss, figuratively and literally, against anyone else.
The Man Known as Dan
I honestly think #DIY can go all the way to the final four if we are just talking ring work. They had a great series with the Revival, but also had one of hte best matches of the CWC against each other. Not only that, it feels incomplete watching the Tag Matches without the Singles match for context. I'm not sure how many people in this tournament have a 1-2-3 like they do. Chicken Sandwich Carl
I'd argue that the Toronto match was the best tag match in WWE history. That right there should cruise DIY past a kind of hit or miss dude like Kamaitachi. Factor in the rest of their work and it isn't close.
PolishHammer
I've always hated Gargano and never cared for Ciampa before their stint with WWE, but they've had hell of a year, especially the Revival feud. I've been a huge fan of Kamaitachi when he was in Mexico, but after that he is kind of disappointment to me. I still like him, but I'm kind of worried he will end up like Namajague, who I loved in CMLL and instantly stoped carring about when he returned to Japan. Voted DIY (even with this stupid name). Sublime
this could have been a quarter finals match in my eyes but after much debate i'll have to go with DIY in addition to their great tag work their match in CWC was also such a high level and Gargano got a good match out of TJP too.
