http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-triangle/post/_/id/76518/the-nba-media-day-power-rankingsThe whole thing is full of Gold. . .Monta Basketball...IT'S FAAAAAAAANTASTIC! I'm not thrilled about "Monta basketball". Shocked he didn't weigh in on the Wade/Harden ranking. "Monta better than both."
Jrag
Bulls look good! Jimmy Buckets and Kirk had good games. O yeah, and this guy....

RandomAct
Based on the two preseason games, "Monta basketball" looks pretty damn good. He's a good fit for the Mavs. Dalembert needs work.

mco543
X posted from the TV thread... If Deadspin is to be believed Magic Johnson has left ESPN because Simmons is going to essentially have all the power over the NBA show and Wilbon was being diminished. Not that Magic was remotely good or anything Simmons was every bit as bad, if not worse.
Jrag
No way. Wilbon and Magic took the life out of that show. "The Big 3 need to show up for Miami to have a chance tonight." How many fucking times can you say that Magic? That means absolutely nothing because of course. Simmons might not be the best on air personality, but the show will almost certainly be better with him in control. They aren't going to be TNT anytime soon, but at least we wont have Wilbon trying to rein in every interesting discussion so Magic has time to say some stupid shit about the Lakers. mco543
The entire show needed to be blown up. Wilbon and Magic aren't good, Simmons doesn't belong on television, and Jalen is the best of the bunch despite being a horrible host. Replacing Magic with Doug Collins really does nothing. ESPN's show is still going to be vastly inferior to TNT's whether "Earvin" and Star Fucker Wilbon are there or not.
Dewar
Yeah, ESPN's studio show needs to be blown the fuck up. Get Bill Walton sitting on his couch and JVG sitting courtside talking about whatever comes into their head, and that's a million times better than Magic, Wilbon, Jalen and Simmons. Jrag
Competing with TNT shouldn't be the bar, because no one can compete with those guys. No post or pre-game show from any sport can touch them. Bill and Jalen are a whole lot of fun together I think. Jalen was the best of the 4 last year.
Joe Lucia
FWIW, Doris Burke is also joining the show.
jaedmc
Everybody was too nice to Magic because he's Magic. You toss him and Wilbon and Jalen probably get a lot more interesting battling it out. Jalen explaining basketball shit while Wilbon goes to his old stand by of "I don't caaaaare. It doesn't really maaaater. No one caaaares. Players plaaaaay." Gotta find a retired player who has that bitter "I don't have a ring" edge to fill it out.
Jrag
So is she going to take over for Wilbon? Because that would be a serious host upgrade. Jalen, Bill and Doug would all benefit. There is no excuse to cut Jalen off mid goofball rant.
supremebve
Yeah, the biggest problem with the show is that Simmons and Rose were on a different show than Magic and Wilbon. Wilbon and Magic spent the whole time trying to do an old school studio show, while Jalen and Bill were riffing and goofing off. I don't know if Burke and Collins will make it any better, but Wilbon was completely out of his element and despite being one of the top 5 best players ever Magic never really had any insight about what was going on. Whether you like them or not Rose and Simmons were the only interesting parts of the show. If the show is going to work it's going to be because of their chemistry together.
Burgundy LaRue
FWIW, Doris Burke is also joining the show. She's way better than Wilbon in that regard. Her presence will help. And Burke deserves it for being the one sideline reporter who managed to interview Popovich without looking like she had wet herself in fear. Simmons and Rose together have a goofy rhythm that works. Burke will keep them on track. Collins is old-school, but tends to do well with explaining the game in layperson terms. So they'll have a former player, a former coach, a pop culture/basketball nerd, and a reporter/host. On paper, it should work.
RandomAct
This is nothing but an upgrade. The show should at least be tolerable now. I love Doris forever just for her "one question" moment with Popp. As Burgundy said, she's the only one that could stand there with a Popovich or Carlisle and not be intimidated. MarcosLoura
Those guys were together for less than a year and everybody is saying that they should blow it up. C'mon guys. Wilbon was shit though.
RandomAct
Did you really see any chance of them improving as a unit, though?
Charlie M.
The only problem with Doris Burke is that she's another serious person who is friendly with everyone in the league. You need people who don't give a fuck. Back the fucking truck up and steal Webber and Kerr from TNT.
MarcosLoura
Did you really see any chance of them improving as a unit, though? Yes, because I actually like Simmons, Jalen and Simmons + Jalen. I know I'm in a real small minority in the board though, right Jrag?
RandomAct
It seems like everyone agrees that Jalen and Simmons should stick around, but Wilbon and Magic are the major problems. If Wilbon was more like Ernie Johnson, and less like the Davey Richards of hosting, he would be ok.
