This was another fun show!  Hard to top last week's special episode but this was still very entertaining.  I feel AEW has found the right mix of personnel, match ups and "entertainment" over the last couple of months and they are really hitting their stride again.

You get a great hoss fight out of Stat and Hayter.  You also get a very fun match between Ricochet and Briscoe.  You get another entertaining segment with The Hurt Syndicate and MJF.  Everything is working.

Also,  they are doing a nice job building up this Ricochet and Kevin Knight feud.  I've seen them going at it on social media also.  They will be an awesome pairing.

I do have to admit I missed the first 15 minutes and was busy during Ric/Briscoe. I bet the latter was solid enough. But still, minus points for Master P not coming out on a tank.

That's two Dynamites in a row that I really enjoyed!

In particular, I LOVED that all of a sudden good guys have friends that run out to help them again!! One of my favourite ways that AEW distinguished themselves from WWE. SO HAPPY to see that happening again! Plus an ex WWE superstar actually put over an ex ROH pro wrestler!

Also, apparently that whole Cash Wheeler thing was a giant misunderstanding.

He spilled some gas on his sleeve filling up his car. Then lit a cigarette while drivingand his sleeve burst into flame. So he stuck it out the window and waved it around to try and extinguish the fire. But he got arrested

Spoiler

For brandishing a fire arm

I can’t believe that, when they first showed the RnR Express in the crowd, I didn’t immediately put together they would be in the FTR segment and cement the heel turn. And even though I loved RnR more, Dax is kinda righr that Midnights were better. Also Stoke better start carrying a tennis racket.

Okay, okay. I liked that segment too. And STOKE IS BACK~! But,

1. Bucks and Highspot Wrestling in general

2. MJF

3. Ospreay vanishing and thus ruining my interest in that match

sucked. That's not really too bad of an average for tonight I suppose. It's the Bucks/Knight + Speedball tag that poisoned my eyes. It was just the least credible looking wrestling in the world to me, and the Bucks couldn't even lay down for a change to give a new team the rub, when there were like ten opportunities in the match to do that. It gave me the same feeling I'll probably get get when Mone wins.

So I guess tonight gets my Bobby Lashley Thumbs Up after all?

Really loved the opening segment chaos from Master P through all the various people coming out to get involved ruled. Looking like a great set up for Anarchy in the Arena with Joe/Moxley at Beach Break.

Wish we were getting FTR/RNR in a match. Briscoe/Ricochet ruled with Mark's win feeling like a bit of an upset.

Back to back really fun tags and a nice main event win for Jamie Hayter's birthday, barely even noticed this one was only 4 matches with all the action.

After a slow start back when she first returned, Hayter's recent output has felt like her catching some fire again. Very much looking forward to Hayter/Mercedes.

Did anyone really think the Bucks would lay down tonight?  I can't stand the Bucks but it wouldn't have made sense for them to take the L and the match was about advancing the Ricochet and Knight story.  They both got involved in each other's business.

Curious what lacked credibility? I thought the Bucks v Knight/Bailey was a ton of fun. And a pretty excellent return for the Bucks. They worked their asses off and made the makeshift team of Bailey/Knight look great - as is their per usual. Ospreay disappearing was noticeable, but not a dealbreaker for me. I liked seeing Takeshita/Alexander beat the shit out of big Brody.

I get that Buddy getting hurt likely screwed up some plans, but man my dude Brody in there getting pinned like every week.

I was thinking the same thing.  World's largest/most talented JTTS, it's crazy how often he's been getting pinned.  Between him and Mortos I'm starting to think Tony has an antipathy towards unconventional bigs

Second Niners, the promotion feels like it's in a really good place again right now creatively, another fun show this week.  I think we can go back through the last several years of our posting and see an up and down pattern where they get into ruts/lulls for a while and then all of a sudden the booking starts getting more intricate and interwoven and we get lots of compelling intersecting stories like we have now.  Good mix of talent being featured right now with lots of crossover and it feels like there's some real short and long term vision playing out

There was one REALLY loud guy in the crowd the mic was picking up all night.  He cracked me up a few times ("THAT SHIRT IN YOUR BACK POCKET IS SUSPECT STOKELY!"), most of the time he was just annoying

Like the Stokely/FTR pairing.  They don't need a manager but I think it adds to them as heels.  Feels forever ago but Tully was great with them

I'm really digging the MJF and Hurt Syndicate stuff.  When MVP said to him a couple weeks ago something to the effect of, "you need to show them the goods/give them what they want" I figured it was setting up MJF literally just hurting someone to prove to he belongs in the group.  The end of that segment tonight did not dissuade me.  Don't know who the victim will be, but I expect him to absolutely massacre somebody sooner than later to earn Lashley's stamp of approval

Bucks and Speedball/Knight was lots of fun.  Knight was a great signing, really impressive athlete and fairly charismatic.  I've done a total 180 on Speedball.

Was really looking forward to the main and it didn't disappoint. I was hoping that Hayter would pick up the win because I felt like she needed it more than Stat and the Owen Tournament has done a great job in rebuilding her. So, I was pleased to see her take this. Mone doesn't mind a death by Hoss so she and Hayter should be fun.

Watching Stat/Hayter, I felt like that little kid in Hook walking up to Robin Williams and going "Oh there you are Hayter".  Just felt like the aura of Hayter has returned and I'm all on board with her winning the Owen.

I think they had Brody lose because

1. They wanted to give Alexander a big win

2. Their finishers are identical, are they not?

3. He was willing

4. Managerial Ospreay Worship

Of course the Bucks weren't gonna lose for any reason, but they should have. They should always lose.

I'm guessing Jon Moxley vs. Samoa Joe is on Beach Break Dynamite to free both for Anarchy in the Arena at Double or Nothing. Speaking of Double or Nothing, looks to be:

  • Anarchy in the Arena.
  • 2025 Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Final: Will Ospreay vs. Kyle Fletcher or Hangman Adam Page. Surely we don't get Will Ospreay vs. Kyle Fletcher V so soon after their Steel Cage match at AEW Revolution 2025? Will Ospreay vs. Hangman Adam Page is the match to make. I'm hoping Page wins it and beats Jon Moxley at AEW All In for the AEW World Championship.
  • 2025 Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Final: Mercedes Mone vs. Jamie Hayter.

Big show celebrating the five year anniversary of AEW's first show.

I think Jamie Hayter vs. Kris Statlander was the best match of the Women's tournament. Can't wait for Mercedes Mone vs. Jamie Hayter at AEW Double or Nothing 2025.

I was very surprised Mark Briscoe won. Glad he did. Should have been pushed as a main event face since what tragically happened to Jay Briscoe. Tragic Briscoe Brothers were never permitted on AEW TV. Both Jay and Mark really stand out. Jay as a badass and Mark even more so with Redneck Kung Fu.

Yes to Brody King needing wins.

There's another, better universe where we're building towards Takeshita and Brody unifying the International and Continental titles.
