Well this is something I was not expecting in 2024:  Chick-Fil-A Hatches Plans For Streaming Service As Reality TV Comes Home To Roost

Quote

Chick-Fil-A is moving aggressively into the entertainment space with plans to launch a slate of originals for its own streaming platform.

Deadline understands that the fast-food firm has been working with a number of major production companies, including some of the studios, to create family-friendly shows, particularly in the unscripted space. It is also in talks to license and acquire content.

I dropped Paramount+ last fall because nothing on it(or Showtime) caught my attention.

I use Hulu, rarely use Disney+(burnt TF out on Marvel and Star Warts) and only watch ESPN during college football season...this could go without an issue.

I do Peacock, Max and Prime on yearly deals and watch the shit out of all three.

I keep Netflix because it was the first streaming service I ever had(started getting discs from them in '04). They've been hit and miss with me lately, but they've been around so long, it's like a longtime family pet that you can't come to terms on whether or not it's time...

I'm burnt out on Star Trek but I'd recommend Mayor of Kingstown in a heartbeat.

I watched the first season but since I spend a ton of time in Michigan for work I spent way too much time trying to figure out where it was supposed to be set. After a while I figured that it was supposed to be either Flint or Saginaw.

I believe i was the last man on earth still getting DVDs in the mail. I used to get movies that I missed when they came out in the theatres that way

Comcast is spinning off practically all of their cable networks (with the exception of Bravo, because that makes a lot of content for Peacock, which they're also keeping). That means CNBC, MSNBC, USA, Syfy, E, Golf Channel, and Oxygen are all moving to their own company (plus for some reason Fandango and Rotten Tomatoes).

The new company is hilariously (and tentatively) titled SpinCo. It's like a 30 Rock skit.

Lots of Black Friday deals for streaming sites, the best being a year of Peacock for $19.99 for both old and new subscribers. The Hulu/Disney+ bundle is $2.99 a month for a year, need to be a new subscriber, but all you have to do is use an email address you haven’t used for the site before.

YTTV is seriously burning their last bit of goodwill with ANOTHER PRICE HIKE OF $10, effective January.  It's fucked because they're the only one with all the locals but, I'm done with the hikes.

I'm glad I got away from YTTV in March.  It just costs too damn much and I can count on one hand at best the channels I actually use.

For the local channels it took a bit to find the right spot but a good HD antenna served me well for quite a while.  If you want to actually record stuff there's devices for it but it can be a bit pricey for a decent one.

Spoiler

There's also Kodi and VPN to get what you want to but it might be best to do a private message instead of discussing it here.

I've been using a 4th gen Tablo for a few months and that's worked out quite well. If your home is a wifi deadzone you might need to direct connect to a router but I haven't had any issues.

Yeah, it might be time for the Antenna and Sling for the 4 cable channels I actually watch.  The only reason I went to YTTV was because of needing the locals and it wasn't an issue for that one year Locast was running (fucking networks).  But Sling, an Antenna, and Tablo might be the way to go.

My only issue with Tablo/any antenna is that I'm *JUST* outside of indoor range for the Philadelphia towers.

I had issues with antennas downstairs, but upstairs it was fine. Being surrounded by trees didn't help that I wasn't up high enough for downstairs, so the Tablo being able to be used upstairs and downstairs was pretty useful. The Tablo lives upstairs, so I get the upstairs antenna range while using the downstairs TV.
